Some areas of Calgary International Airport remained closed Tuesday morning after multiple severe thunderstorms in the Calgary area triggered emergency warnings the previous evening.

Certainly a lot of stock video from other hail storms in other cities... The hail skirted the northwest to northeast edge of Calgary, pretty much all residential suburb areas with a few strip malls, not the inner city locations shown in this video.

@@user-fl4gz9bs9t Palm trees certainly don't do well in Calgary without a lot of help through the winter but there is a story of California once giving palm trees to many Canadian cities as a gift over a hundred years ago. Calgary planted them outside of city hall and though they died through the winters, one did manage to live twelve years... The scenes in this video are obviously from storms throughout North America, even the architecture of the apartment complex that's in the clip with the palm trees are more common along the Gulf coast than in Calgary and the mirrored image of the Citibank logo in the clip where people were sheltering under a glass awning is very suspicious as you don't see a lot of Citibanks in Calgary (Google maps doesn't show one in Calgary). But garden nurseries that specialize in the Calgary area, do have articles about growing a Palm tree garden in the area, just don't expect a lot of seasons from one.

It was the seven or more warnings sent to smart phones by Environment Canada that said there could be hail up to five inches in diameter not that there actually was five inch hail. I do have to wonder why there were so many warnings issued so close together.
Get a little hail and all the nuts come out watch out for the squirrels.

Interesting that everyone sheltered under the glass sidewalk awning on the left when there were tables and benches indoors in the bar across the street that was open to the street... I know where I would've run to and enjoyed a pint and some wings while waiting for the storm to subside.

@@tedarnlund1293 It's just water pooling on a flat gravel and tar roof. The maintenance was probably insufficient. They'll send someone up there to pour some more melted tar onto the roof and sprinkle a bit more gravel on top and then replace the drop ceiling tiles that got soaked. The hail storm really only hit the northern outskirts of the city, most of Calgary just got heavy rain and winds. It's a bit disappointing that the International airport was so lacking in it's roof maintenance but the building was built back in 1977.
If you had looked at the radar maps from before the storm reaching Calgary, the projections actually showed the storm just missing Calgary but it seems to have moved a bit south of projections.
The multiple alerts is a bit interesting, well over seven alerts in quick succession. Somebody at Environment Canada was panicking.
