Thank you for putting out this video. I've had the same issue with two Ego blowers. Works just fine with 5.0 battery, but when I use the 12.0 battery, it kills the motor and won't restart. Ego had to send me a new blower.
I suspected it was a bigger issue than just me, thanks for sharing your experience. It sounds like its quite common with the 10.0 and 12.0 batteries. Would love to be a part of EGO's testing team because I think this could and should have been caught much earlier.
@@DanielGoodwin-jq1oc So it will kill the 650 blower if you use a 10.0 battery. That is exactly what happened to mine. It no longer works no matter what battery I try to use. I just wish I had never put the huge battery on the blower. Because now I'm having to probably buy a new blower altogether. I have many of the EGO tools and lots of batteries. This is the first time the EGO quit working or turning on completely. That was all I could figure is the Large battery had something to do with the reason it no longer works. The blower is completely dead. It will not work anymore. Since it is 3 years old. I do not know if EGO will help. I bought it on amazon.
I have some useful info for you. Exactly the same thing happens with the 12Ah battery and their 530cfm blower!!!! Thanks for the video. I thought something was faulty. And now I have just realised that my STX3800 commercial string trimmer is suffering the same issue with the 12Ah battery. Under load it just cuts out. Oh dear. We expect better.
I also have the same problem with the LB7650 blower. Although I was using the 10 amp hour battery. And it cut out a number of times. Then one day I was using it in turbo mode with a 10 amp hour battery and it stopped working. I thought it was just a normal cut out in turbo mode. But it actually it burned out the electronics in the blower itself. (EGO Power+ 2831084001 Electric Assembly for LB7650) from Amazon. Fixed it.
That is what happened to mine. All the batteries are not compatible. EGO needs to make consumers aware that using a Larger EGO battery in a smaller EGO tool is not a good idea. The larger battery is hazardous to smaller tools.
I found this video because I am experiencing the same problem. Not just with the 765 cfm blower w/ 12 amp battery, but also with the 10 amp. And also with the 800 cfm commercial grade backpack blower from ego. Really frustrating, especially knowing how much money I've invested into this company for my landscaping business
I also have that same blower and have that exact same issue with a 10 amp battery and I just stop for a few seconds and it will restart but I can't use turbo very long or it will cut off. I have a Ego backpack blower and I can run it 100% in turbo and it doesn't cut off. So it's not the battery because if was the battery then the 5 amh battery would quit even sooner.
Confirmed! It happens to me it’s annoying! I wish they could have a fix! I have the 12ah battery and the same blower owned it a week does it in turbo mode also same shit happens with my 7.5 ah from the mower kinda sucks man
After watching this video and reading the comments, I'll definitely not buy an EGO blower, until EGO fixes the problem. I can see that it might not be able to run turbo as long as a large battery could power it. If so however, this should be made clear in the instructions AND the machine/battery itself should reduce the power to prevent damage. If I use one of my flashlights on turbo they reduce brightness after a certain time/temperature to prevent damage to the light and the user. The ones I mostly use also specify those times right up front in the specification. Most good flashlights will do this, but some do hide the actual timing of the step down, I suppose to make gullible potential customers believe that their flashlight will ignore physics. Since I just purchased an expensive EGO mower that has not even arrived yet, I am disappointed that EGO has not addressed the issue. After all they are big on registration. They could send out a notice to registered users not to use turbo for more than a set time, accommodate users who have had problems, and fix the problem in future models.
I had an issue too. I was using the 650 Blower and I put the HUGE battery that went to the lawn mower. It worked good at first. Now the blower does not work anymore. Ive had the blower 3 years. Now the Blower will not work at all. It does nothing. It does not matter what battery I use. I wandered if putting the larger battery on the blower that required a smaller battery messed it up. It worked fine until I put the extra large battery. Now its completely dead. The blower will not work at all. I live in Mississippi so I have no idea who might be able to look at it to diagnose the blower as to whether it is fixable or not.
I'm sorry that happened to you. EGO does have a support section on their website which should be able to tell you where your nearest EGO repair place is. Mine was at a Northern Tool and Equipment store but yours might be different. You can call them here: egopowerplus.com/contact-us
I have had the same problem it is specific to 765 blower it happens on the 5ah 10ah and 12ah battery I have. I have exchanged my 765 blower 3 times at Lowe’s it’s fine if you don’t use turbo but if you do this problem you described happens all the time. This my never happened with my 650 blower
I've been dealing with this issue for the last 3 months. My 765 cfm does this with the 4amp, 5amp and 10amp batteries. I actually dropped it off for the 3rd time at Northern Tools to be serviced today. Ego customer service claims that it shouldn't shut off after pressing the turbo button for an extended period. It's definitely a manufacturer flaw that should be recalled, but Ego refuses to acknowledge. Maybe a class action lawsuit would change their minds. This tool wasn't cheap.
hi I have the same 765 blower and battery combo you have and have the same problem and I just googled it and it took me to your video ego just sent me new battery and I have the same problem cuts out after 10 15 mins then gets every 3 to 5 mins it is the battery I used the 12a battery in my smaller ego blower and turbo or not they cut out I was going to call ego tomorrow I figured they would tell me just what you was told I'm the only one this has to be a over load cir protection in the battery I don't get it because if I used in in there new pressure washer I'm sure it could draw more amps then the blower in turbo I was going to buy a 9AH battery from amazon a knock off one just to see if it would do this sounds to me we both payed good money for this and I bet its a no fix did you get anywhere yet with ego or anything else I detail cars an used this 765 for blowing water off cars so this is always in turbo mode
EGO needs to step up and fix this, in addition, they need to stop falsley advertising their runtime on turbo/or claiming compatability with all batteries. I own a substantial amount of EGO products and am typically happy with my purchases. The manner in which they're handling this would infuriate me and cause me to question my future business with them.
I suspected that 10.0ah battery would also result in the same behavior! Thanks for confirming! Also that confirms its not just my blower which I was also fairly confident that was true.
This is surprising - a larger battery should definitely not be running into heat issues since the load is spread across more cells. I've had issues when using too small of a battery with some tools, like a 2.5Ah with a string trimmer running continuously in the summer. I have a dozen 12Ah batteries and use them all the time in many tools. I have a 7654 blower but haven't tried one in that as of yet. I'll try to remember to give it a try sometime soon. Does the battery have all 5 lights turn red? That's the indicator for a temperature problem.
I agree, I would have expected the same: using a smaller battery would result in overdischarge/overheating. All 5 lights do not flash red (that I've noticed), they flash green once and then nothing. After about 20-30 seconds they flash again and I can resume blowing. Alternatively, I can disconnect the battery and reconnect and resume blowing at turbo. I would love to hear if you encountered the same issue with your blower and the 12.0ah battery running on turbo! Please let us know!
@@DanielGoodwin-jq1oc I normally use an Ego Backpack Link (BH1001) and today got that out and tested again with the same blower and same battery. Taped the triggers down and let it run. 15 minutes later, it was still running. I don't know how this works around the compatibility problem but it does, and wearing the battery weight on your back is much more comfortable with a lot of tools. I recommend ordering one! I'm still going to complain about the issue to Ego.
@@caseygina3553 The backpack adapter does seem like a great product and its good to know that it "fixes" the issue with running 10ah and 12ah batteries in the LB7654! Thanks for sharing this as an option!
@@caseygina3553 We might need to get a bit more data on this before we can conclude that the backpack fixes the issue with the 12Ah battery. My STX3800 cuts out under modest load with the backpack and a 12Ah battery.
I’m m not positive but I’m starting to think it’s the battery being physically hot. I moved mine into the garage which is a lot cooler than the shed and it hasn’t done it since. It’s a shame because it’s a great blower when it works
Whats the conclusion of this? Is EGO doing further investigation on there end? I have the exact same issue with my 765 and my 12Ah batteries that came with my snowblower! I use turbo to dry my car after washing it.
Based on the number of responses we've seen here, it clearly isn't a one-off issue. I don't have any direct contacts at EGO besides the general support number but would love to share this video and all the comments that have followed with EGO's engineering team.
Correct, all of the 12ah batteries trigger this behavior from the hand held blower. They work fine in the new backpack blower and in the shopvac on turbo.
Excellent video! I have a similar problem with my HT2500. It will stop right in the middle of an easy cut for no reason. It is a beast of a hedge trimmer; theoretically; but not so much in practice.
