Carol's scream when she realizes the answer is "Fade" makes me burst out laughing, no matter how many times I watch.
Carol Burnett IS THE QUEEN of Comedy!
she is angel from heaven...
Hard to say. I’d think that the queen is Lucille Ball. Though Carol definitely should share the throne. 😊 The two of them together is just the greatest comedy ever.
I love it when the announcer can't talk without laughing
I love carol she’s got the balance of class and goofiness it makes me comfy to be a tomboy 😌😅 she’s a legend 👂🏻👌🏻🧡
I like the episodes with Carol Burnette and Alan King he's having fun 😀
Carol was loud, mugging faces and laughs louder than anyone ever.... and she is adorable.
Absolutely love her! ❤ There was, a hoax in May that she died and I saw it on the computer. I was screaming, NO, NO, NO! I will cry a lot when she goes. She is such a talented, kind lady! ❤
I love these shows! Nothing like it on TV these days.
Goodness this is hilarious. I would have watched this show every night if I existed then.😂😂
I think game shows were so much more fun when there was less money involved. The players and celebs are just having a great time.
Money went farther then.
Ain't that the truth! 💖🥰
Interestingly it’s more than is thought. $1 in 1964 is today worth $8.85, adjusting for inflation, or nearly $4,500 if they won the $500 prize.
Gosh I love Carol
It wasn't the best played game, but this was oh so fun to watch. When you get two comedians on the show it can be hilarious.
I saw "Fade Out-Fade In." I loved it and absolutely adored Carol Burnett then. So talented, so unassuming, and so genuine.
I think that Tina Louise was in that?
@@randysills4418 Yes, but the show was all Burnett, at least for me.
BURNETT WAS KILLING ME TOO!!!!!🤣🤣🤣
Omg omg thank you so much for posting this episode .my whole life I've heard about my granny being on this show and after searching for years I finally got to see her on it made my day again thanks a mil
Congratulations, lisalovely. I hope it was worth the wait.
lisalovely lady Congratulations! Which one is your granny?
This show is hilarious today😅. The rivalry is so funny but good natured!
This beats any modern day game show since who wants to be a millionaire.
Wonder why Alan King wasn't on the Carol Burnett show more often. They were hilarious together.
Probably because he couldn't go a half hour without feeding his nicotine addiction.
@@lawsonj39 everybody smoked everywhere back then. I remember professors and students smoking in college classrooms, restaurants, airplanes, on TV talk shows, at your desk at the work, in the offices of schools etc.
A few days after this broadcast, Carol Burnett sustained a neck injury in an NYC taxi. From Wikipedia's entry about "Fade Out - Fade In": "Burnett was sidelined due to a serious neck injury sustained in a taxi accident in July 1964. The production temporarily shut down for one week starting on July 27, 1964, then reopened with Betty Hutton in the lead. After recuperating, Burnett returned to the show, but left shortly afterwards to participate in The Entertainers, a television variety series her husband Joe Hamilton was producing for CBS. Burnett announced in October 1964 that she was leaving the show to have therapy, and the producers announced that they would try to find a replacement. Mitzie Welch went on for Burnett, but in November 1964 the producers announced that the show would close until Burnett was able to return. When the show's producers threatened a breach-of-contract lawsuit, Burnett returned on February 15, 1965. According to Steven Suskin, the show was then "a hard sell" and, also, during the hiatus, several other musicals had opened (Fiddler on the Roof and Golden Boy), and the show did not regain its momentum. Finally, the financial losses sustained during Burnett's two absences proved to be insurmountable, and the production closed.

I think Carol Burnett was looked upon a little disdainfully because of leaving the show to do The Entertainers (which was not a success) and she didn't go back to Broadway for decades.
Oh my gosh thank you! I saw this episode a couple years ago and I've been trying to find this one since then. You made my day!
Again So funny😊
They had clean fun. Need that now in 2022
Allen Ludden smooth host like John Daily and Bert Collier for those of us older folks.
Carol makes me laugh purely with her eyes 😅 ah the frustration when they don’t guess correctly
alan is so suave, he makes smoking look good , lol
he was soo good on ed sullivan
This is the first I've seen smoking ON the show, not just advertised.
omg you know it's old when smoking was allowed in the studio! I noticed Alan King had a cigarette in his hand there.
Even well into the 70s...Charles Nelson Reilly often had a cigarette, pipe or cigar on Match Game
Johnny Carson smoked on the set during his shows, he had it hidden behind his desk and would sneak puffs when the camera was pointed at the guest.
Garry Moore was smoking on Password
By your reaction to people smoking on TV, you're definitely younger than a baby-boomer! LOL
Yes. What a criminal.
On "bayonet," I think "rifle" would be a better clue than "gun." No one said that.
two comedians, a banker and a college student. I doubt they're the 'know the difference between rifle/gun" crowd.
I love how the host asks the contestant about her husband and not about herself. Like she couldn't be interesting enough.
Just be glad he let her out of the kitchen.
The contestants had been pre-interviewed. Allen asked them about the more interesting aspects of their lives.
Now these games make me laugh😅💚💚👍
I have loved Password and Allen Luden since I was old enough to watch and understand it. I was so excited when he and Betty White got married, they were a perfect couple.
Notice Allen King is smoking. I remember when they stopped advertising cigarettes. All the sudden there were none on tv or in magazines. Sure miss my Marlboro Man. I believe there were 3 of them. The first one passed away with lung cancer I think and maybe one of the others also. Carol had one of the best shows on. I have taped many of them.
Hello, I discovered password on RUclips, and it's a good American television game from 60s and also discover Carol Burnette and Alan King.
And you identify with which country?
@@RingsLoreMaster Hello, I from Belgium
Allen asks "Gretchen, what does your husband do?" No questions about her.
Wow!! They let him smoke on the game show!! Really old
Carol was talking about Jack Cassidy❤❤❤
Carol's first partner wasn't too pleased with her, especially at the 7:06 mark.
Holy smoking on the show
Alan King is definitely running that "Watch The Eyes" gag right into the ground. I consider myself lenient, but even I'm getting tired of it!
I noticed during the word bayonet the male contestant said watch the eyes to Allen ! Very funny. 🐼
1:00 Carol talks about her Starring role in "Fade In Fade Out" on Broadway...a show the producers later sued her for breach of contract after she abruptly left the show to co-star in a short-lived TV variety show, "The Entertainers." The negative publicity from the legal fight destabilized the show's early strong momentum and its personnel roster, causing it to close, by all accounts, sooner than it would have. To a degree Burnett may have been following the example of co-star Tina Louise, who left the show three months earlier to work on CBS' 'Gilligan's Island." Her fifth appearance in a Broadway show would be Louise's last.
Before Carol gives the first clue for "snore", she tips the scales in her favor by asking about making a sound. It's so absurd--yet typical--that the players could "cheat" like this and get away with it. Allen may reprimand them, but they are never penalized, except for when they give a two-word clue.
Michael oppenheim. The future Costanza
😂😂
Haha! One of the funniest! I do feel like Michael was robbed a bit, though. Alan said five seconds and then suddenly the time was up. Carol was a huge distraction. She's too funny!
The contestant looked pissed when Carol did not get ‘Skunk’
7:30 = "Peekahboo"
🤣🤣🤣🤣😆😄🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣😂
the 14:31 moment is hilarious 🌋
It's easy as an armchair quarterback in 2019, LOL but for "Tongue" how about "… Taster…"
I always liked this version better than Password Plus, which was lame and dumbed down from this.
Alan King is SMOKING! = wowie
What is the connection between Carole Burnett and FADE"?
At that time she was starring in a musical called Fade Out, Fade In
Allen explained it. You're not paying attention.
Hey carol burnett said Newport News va
My uncle was stationed there...
I live across the water of Newport News va I'm from Norfolk va
I hate that they let him smoke during the game
"What does your husband do?"
I wish they would bring Password back but who to host?,
Anyone but Jimmy Fallon
Amazing they could smoke on the game show.
It’s hard to understand Carol Burnetts , partner that has the head been on.
He asked the wife what does your husband do hahaha
Pretty standard for that era
is anybody else sick and tired of "watch the eyes"?
Why does Allen always look lost when he comes out on stage?
🤣🤣😂😂
Unfortunately, you probably never saw a black person on the show.
A black star(can't remember who) but I haven't seen a black contestant yet( just started watching).
Last night, I saw Sammy Davis Jr. And another black contestant, on a different episode; have forgotten who it was. My lousy memory.... I haven't watched Password a lot, yet, but I'm guessing that wasn't very common. (Edited to fix a typo)
Sure, I"ve seen a few. Keep watching.
Carol's wearing a hair wig !!!!
What a misogynistic question, Gretchen Landgraf, what does YOUR huzband do????
Carol is a lot funnier than Alan
I adore alan though!
yeah that's the general opinion
Alan was successful because he was Jewish. The Jews ran Hollywood back then. All male comedians were Jewish
@@Mark-sj3xb Jews are smart too.
@@Mark-sj3xb oh good grief. Be careful, your anti semitic is showing.
King was a bit dense
Hes smoking 🚬 too
“What does your husband do?”
🤦🏻♂️
Oh my God. He says to her what does your husband do.
Instead of asking the first female contestant, Gretchen, what keeps her busy (as he did the 2nd female) she is asked what her husband does?! SMH!! Even if she didn't have an outside job or studies, and she worked as a homemaker, she's a human being worth learning more about! This episode must have been at a time when women had no rights to apply for a loan without the signature of a father or husband.
In some odd way Alan Ladd carries himself like Trump except for I like Alan better. LOL
Alan Ladd?
so SICK of Allen with "watch those eyes" on EVERY episode he's on!!!
and also Carol screems and on every episode she's on and she doesn't even SOUND like she means it, and she is VERY annoying. I like her as an actress and comedian, but she drives me NUTS on this show!
HATER ASS...
Kinda reminds me of Jim Carrey playing porno password on Cable Guy
carol stop being bad at password
