This is a consequence for being disrespectful to a country. Please go watch how Messy interacted with the people in Hong Kong, China. He got what he asked for.

Most people was not educated to think for them self, if they heard something bad about China, then it must be true, China must be doing it to the people. Think about it, from year 1 to 12, and even university don't teach people how to think. The world we are living in is no longer rational, people only want to believe what they want to believe, to most people, subjective beliefs equals truth. Don't feel too sad about it. This is why I personally don't like people in general and don't place too much stock in what people say.

Messi has a lot of skeletons in his closet. There is a reason why the head of legal services for Barcelona back in 2020, said that Messi had become a tyrant within the club and labeled him a sewer rat. Barcelona basically went into financial difficulties because of Messi and his father. Barcelona wanted to lower all the players salaries to be able to stay afloat. Messi sent a WhatsApp message to the president telling him to lower everyones salary but not to touch his or Luis Suarez. Imagine the media touts him as a great teammate. He is probably worth more than the rest of the players combined, but didn't want his salary lowered. He must be a real pleasure for the rest of the players in the dressing room. The truth of the matter is that he is absolute scum.

I do believe that his demeanor was politically motivated, especially when he skipped shaking hands with the city's leaders.
Financially he probably doesn't care, but it's going to have a ripple effect to everything related to him now.
Even the exhibition match between the Argentina National Team and China is canceled.

It's definitely political and personal. Whether Messi personally or his boss deliberately did what they did in HK, they are the one that cut off their $$$$ cow. Now, China has canceled all upcoming games, let that be a lesson learned. The audacity of Messi, disrespecting HK Chief Executive by not even shaking his hand, no public speech nor a bloody wave to fans on top of not putting on a damn show for half an hour deserves zero respects from his fans. I don't know how much Beckham is in part of all this but he is often in Macau doing promotions so I don't see him being political.
BTW, the organiser did refund ticket buyers 50%, after receiving many complaints and pressure.

Hahahaha I like this Messi version. He doesn't talk much but his action will be loud. Messi is the only athlete that doesn't give a shit about being marketable, he doesn't care at all. Pissing of the market in China would be devastating for any athlete but not Messi he doesn't care that, he love his fans every where but apparently he made a stand in Hong Kong.

@@YukiJuli what rest of career? He's nearly retiring. In his whole career he doesn't value marketability that much, his sponsors do. I bet Adidas is crying right. But all this fuss is not because of the fans is the government of Hong Kong that felt disrespected coz the guy didn't want shake their hands or even speak to fans. This game was turned into political rally. And I think Messi didn't want to take part of it. Many athletes are avoiding chine coz of things like this.

Politics and football don't gel. If you don't like China and the Chinese don't go there. If you go you must behave properly. If he'd had come out with a statement that he disagrees with China's politics and refused to go to HK I'd respect it and him. Now, he has lost all his fans and the respect of the Chinese people. Is he a Milie supporter?

But this fit right into the China narrative that the West conspired together to undermine China in every way possible.
