It's Johanna's birthday and she picked Midsommar to review with Tony and Crystal. In this movie review/podcast we will talk about how MESSED UP this movie is! Everything from the opening scene, the cliff diving moment, and a part that will make you never want to drink lemonade again.
A couple travel to Sweden to visit their friend's rural hometown for its fabled midsummer festival, but what begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.

I saw this movie in theaters and a woman brought in THREE of her kids, none close to teen age. The youngest had to be between 5-7. That kid is going to need some therapy later in life.

Always love horror movies that take place in the day time. You know that they’re a good filmmaker if they can scare you without using the dark.

Who else is getting really high right now watching?
Despite great performances and imagery, I found the film fairly pointless, because despite all the mistakes the group made their fate was sealed when they arrived there, they were all either going to be killed or sacrifice and Danny was always going to be chosen to join them, so felt a little pointless. Hence why the characters come across as dicks, so that makes the plot pointless.
You say that about any horror movie where a group of people show up to a spooky place. You already know either all will be killed or at least one will survive.
Tony is at least 20% more huggable in that costume
The part where she’s dreaming and sees the old man’s head all busted and it looks like it could be a prop but then it goes into backwards speed and it turns back into the old man alive looking all mean at you; that was turbo graphic

My favorite theatre experience was seeing The Lighthouse and hearing an old man apologize for making his son see it with him

That movie is legit one of the tiny few of movies that actually scare me out of the thousands I’ve seen! Almost as scary as Exorcism

Caught this movie about 2 months ago on Prime Video before it being pulled. My mother sat through a 2 and a half hour movie w/o going on her phone. That's how you know this movie is immersive. Will have to watch the directors cut I bought from A24 website. P.S. I really liked the movie. The dancing scene was really well shot and choreographed.

Was Josh really being rude when he brought the other culture up to the priest? It's what he studies, and is the reason he wanted to attend the festival. To him, he could've just been a bit conversational while trying to show a group of people that they inadvertently have a connection to another culture

It's funny that you guys mentioned a Friday the 13th movie on Christmas. It was already in the comic book sequel to Freddy vs Jason (2003) called Freddy vs Jason vs Ash (2008) where Jason is slaughtering a group of Christmas carolers near his stack from Friday part 2 lol.

Tony is wrong on that, on the northern hemisphere; especially where I live, there are days during summer where the sun never goes down and it continues to stay sunny in the middle of the night, then during winter there are days where the sun does not go up at all, the planet shifts in a way where that happens at some areas on earth, I think both north and south sides of earth.

I always assumed that the old man jumping legs first was required as per their ritual, like he couldn’t choose which way to fall. I have no evidence to back this up I just assumed.
I saw this movie in an empty theater like I was the only one there for a matinee showing on a weekday on my day off and the theater attendant checked on me DURING the sex scene and gave me the most confused look like "wtf are you watching!?" kind of looked and I laughed so hard. But yeah great movie.

this movie has a kind of culture shock feel, can't put my finger on it, but i've lived in two different countries and constantly felt dizzy and had headaches over there and just felt all misaligned, there is this different temperature, altitude etc feeling when you're in a different land and this confusion and this movie has that off balance feel
