Just telling from your own footage, you're only scratching the surface of this game. If play you it like a typical tps, you're not going to get much out of this game. You're supposed to be using bullet time as much as possible. Shoot grenades in mid air to get a bigger AoE. Rolling, or flip/boost kicking and then shooting and more. Every weapon has unique melee moves. Shotgun has a chargeable parry (which does incredible dmg), pistol and machine gun has the flip kick which doesn't have to land on the romanovs to get them in the air. The disk launcher's melee can be used even when the suit is overheated and does more dmg if you rapid press while in the animation. There's so much the game has going for it in its combat, you just have haven't played or experimented enough. The only bad weapon in the game is the lock-on-laser. My other problem w/ your review is your complaints about the game not having no exploration and not having a good story, neither of which is important for a "game". Not even run time is important. Not every game needs to be an hundred hr long rpg w/ exploration, open section or world, and an extensive story. This game is meant to be played over and over and on the hardest difficulty and play the challenge missions just like DMC, Ninja Gaiden, God Hand, Bayonetta and more.

Great review as always. Frankly, i understand the linearity of the maps, and repetitive gameplay. But goddaaaamn, i played the hell out of this game back then, the sheer ridiculousness of it all, and some awesome cutscenes. All in all, I had fun with it.

My point exactly. Is it good? Not really, kinda mid. Is it fun? Oh absolutely, knees go nyoom, bosses go boom

I just grabbed it on Steam for $6. Seemed like a no-brainer decision.

Imho, it's a fun game, very unique. It's a different take on the cover shooter, and it does have a lot of depth. I'd give it better marks if the story and cutscenes weren't so awful.
There's also the fact the visual design is a bit of a mess. I don't just mean the graphics or the character designs. I mean all the visual noise of the explosions and bullets flying through the air and the muddiness of some of the textures all combine to make the UI a little hard to scan sometimes. The weapon switching icon could be streamlined, for instance.
Also, can we talk about the way the camera wonks out when enemies get in close?
Anyway, not some kind of flawless masterpiece, but I like it.
    Addendum: About the weapons.
The disk launcher is deceptively good. If you melee with it equipped you use ammo and not your AR bar, meaning you can melee over and over again. This is a good way of dealing with Romanovs.
The shotgun staggers enemies, preventing them from attacking. YOu can stun lock and kill Romanovs, which is not bad.

Vanquish walked so Ultrakill and Doom Eternal could run

I've heard a lot of good things about Ultrakill, so I'm kinda tempted to look into it at some point.

I really don't appreciate this whole thing $/h ratio. It's dumb.

Bad review tbh. The most obvious flaw in the review:
Criticizing the price of the game for only being 8 hours and being 60 dollars at release. Well, Vanquish came out when rental stores existed. I beat it as a rental. Even aside from that, not a fan of saying full priced game must be X hours.
All the areas are the same battlefield, ruined factory military base or street, except for the end where theres a wooded area, the inside of a battle cruiser, and the outside of an airlock. You just named like 8 areas.
Saying Vanquish is gray and brown. I dont see it.

For the purpose of recommending a game, I believe it's important that you get your money's worth of content when you decide to purchase something. While I will admit that the number I set is relatively arbitrary, I'd still argue that putting the value/amount of content you get against the amount they wanted you to pay for the experience is important on the consumer end. The fact that you and I didn't pay full price because you rented and I got it on sale makes us the exceptions to the rule, and doesnt change the fact that people who payed full price for 4-8 hours of content would be considered a rip-off by most.

The game length critique was definitely a shit take. This game still has some arcade-type elements leftover in it that make it super challenging and replayable. I mean, sure you can play on easy or normal and use the unlimited continue and generous checkpoint system to your advantage, but how many people can do a high-level play no death run on hard? The game’s system are incredibly difficult to master vs some generic open world game that takes forever to beat but has very little to offer in terms of actual challenge.
