The single coolest moment in this game is realizing the "smoke a cigarette" button actually has a function to throw off the enemy's aim temporarily since the robots uses heat vision

They are the kings of making great games that sell poorly.

This game was ment to be played in fast pace high octane action by abusing the time slow mechanic. The cover system are resting place are just there to rechage the core. The point is your're missing out a lot of fun. It's very rare to find these type of game nowadays. A hidden gem indeed
You have too little health to go fast, and too little energy to abuse the slow-mo. So no, the cover is there so that you can actually progress
@@steelbear2063 Nope, if you use the mechanics properly you're in the action all the time. The game has some bad design choices that make that a bit difficult but it's totally possible to almost never be behind cover.
If you're looking for something like what you described take a look at severed steel
@@night1952 This. The game is centered around quick hit-and-runs. Heck, if you know what you're doing, you eventually can jump from bullet-time to bullet-time. The cover mechanic is indeed only there to offer you a chance to sit back and recharge.
This is one of those games that has a wrong way of playing it to point of giving a wrong impression of what could be possible with its mechanics, the depth of mechanics in this game is VAST as the ocean, its insane
I remember buying it off as a whim and loved the whole process. Got me into Metal Gear Rising, Bayonetta and Asura’s Wrath, the latter of the three I highly recommend playing if you haven’t if you loved Vanquished’s high octane action.

I remember this game as a kid. The constant thought I had while playing this was how bad the carpet burn was for Sam
This game is awesome but it can be hard to love at times, once you learn some cool tech it's great though.
For example, many melee attacks will launch you upwards and you can use slow-mo while in the air and you don't even need to hit with the melee. Same with the slide kick, if you hit cover you jump up. There's also mid air grenade shooting, grenade dropping after a slide, reload cancels... In the end it's all about learning how to manage the boost meter.
I finished this game a few weeks ago. The story was alright, but the gameplay was perfection. One of the best third-person shooters and Platinum are one of the best studios
I played this game Like a year ago And i remember thinking IT was awesome but that the story was lacking. I think i might have somehow skipped the opening cutscene.

Games like Vanquish and God Hand (ironically made by the same director and dev team) are prime examples of why you should never trust most big review sites. They will straight up play games completely wrong and then blame the game for it.

I tried the demo first, bought the full game the exact moment I've found a copy. I don't regret it at all, but I believe it could offer even more. A sequel would be an amazing opportunity to finally offer something incredible to the market.
This game needed a sequel to be the best.
DMC, Bayonetta, HiFi Rush...Viewtiful Joe....All stylish games that make you feel godlike....but this??! This was a treat....Too many slept on this.
This might be my favorite action game. The marines are meant to be fodder because when you revive them they drop an upgrade I think and you can have ridiculously strong weapons by the end of the game

Binary Domain is another great game. It's more of a generic 3PS but the weapons and characters were cool. You also fight robots in it lol.

To me, this game is very underrated and needs more love. I wish it would see a renaissance like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance did recently. Thanks for putting the spotlight on it, Kev!
On my second playthrough (and seeing other people playing the game) I realized the cover system is there because it was some sort of mandate by corporate and they made it deliberately the worst way to play because once you see cover as for cowards and treat it like dmc but only guns the game shines brighter than a sun exploding

This game is a serious sleeper hit. It was such a blast. Also the cigarette toss from cover is baller.
The marines were always that powerful, you just played on hard so they had to hold back to give you your preferred experience 😌

I like how it conveys the futility of war by showing it to you instead of making hour long speeches about it.
In the first act you have to escort a railgun only to have it open a tunnel, then getting crushed by an enemy transporter.
Throughout the game, you're constantly reviving the marines only to have them turned to mush seconds later.
The space station just gets nuked out of orbit with the main bad guys not suffering a single casualty since they just hacked the robots already on it.

OMG 😱 this game was my childhood the first game I played on the 360 when my dad got it for the the family.
Of course Vanquish is an underrated game. Such a shame it didn't have a second game. It needed one so bad.
When i needed money (lost my job) i sold it in the days back with my xbox 360 but 2019 i rebuyed the og physical version i only played it 7 hours but it was so fun that i decided it has to return to my game collection.

This game was a huge thing for me, I loved it at first sight and even used it as a reference for body armors i drew in comics when I was younger, been prayin for a sequel for many yeas just for the backwards compatible version to come out and still got excited lol
10:00 you can slo-mo by aiming right after the boost kick... also after any dodge, and during any slide.
And while vaulting over cover, and in the middle of the HMG's flip kick.
Basically, whenever you're doing something cool, you can slo-mo.
That moment you beat hard mode and see "GOD HARD MODE" getting unlocked after the credits... Yup.. it was brutal

I LOVED this game. Boost kicking off walls didn't cause you to overheat and you could abuse this to get crazy angles on enemies. The trick to vanquish was to abuse the gauge till it's almost overheated then start rolling like a madman. Rolling with meter is significantly faster than rolling overheated. With some practice you'll never use cover again 😂

Loved having the LMG and Saw when I could. The melee from the lmg flips you in the air and when aiming can shoot above cover to the do manual slow-mo. Hated the Saw but when I found out that it uses no energy to melee its insanely useful.
When you realize the villain in this game is a modern hero, trying to destroy the two worst cities in USA.
Your channel always helps me find older games i missed from an era i enjoyed that coincided with early adulthood and losing gaming time
How much do I love this game? Bought it day 1 on the PS3, and played it over and over. Then, when the Bayonetta/Vanquish 10th Anniversary Collection released for the PS4, I picked that up as well. Best OTS 3rd person shooter ever.

yeah. It ain't the longest, but the gameplay loop is so tight, you have no problem replaying it.
Fucking slaps, that game. The utter camp-fest that is the dialoge and characters just makes it even better. I wished they made more of it.

The sliding mechanic reminds me of the commercial where the soccer player scores and proceeds to slide on his knees around the entire field lol

The major game play issue I have with vanquish is that you are heavily punished for using melee moves with it costing the full boost meter.
I liked to combine the boosting kick because than you can freeze time in the air and finish off your target.
But yeah that it´s something you need to get used to.
I have my issues as well, but it could all be repaired in a sequel, if only platinum made those...

Yeah. I played this game a while back on the recommendation of a friend and loved it. It's so good. So underrated.
Honestly the boss fights in that game were pretty epic, especially the Argus mech fight.
I didn't even mind the bosses being reused, it followes the themes and they always had a new quirk to go with it

Just so you know you can store jerrycans in the back of your car in Mad Max. Also if you go to your garage you can drive Chums buggy with the dog in the back and that’s how you take out mine fields the dog will guide you to the mines to defuse them.

The helmet peeling back is the smoke break anim. There's a useless button press that makes Sam light a cig and takes a drag. He can only light three before he cant anymore.
You should try Quantum Theory. Gears of war style shooting with an interesting story with badass protagonist

This game reminds me of another gem of a game. All I remember was that it had a jetpack and ragdolls.
Spent 15 minutes googling Jetpack Games and found it. Dark Void it was Dark Void. Stupid name, but I remember it being fun.
