      In your opinion, why would you not use a galil ace pistol with its 8.3inch barrel? Since it's a piston system, dwell time, and other impingement system related issues aren't a factor.

    • @ElkRiverOffRoad
      @ElkRiverOffRoad 3 года назад

      @@mghegotagun I haven't shot the Galil Ace, but my 300blk is an 8.3 so I can appreciate the compact size. My 12.5 inch 5.56 has been my favorite setup for over 5 years. Between that and my 6.8, it's my go to for hunting. Easily takes game out to 300 yards and still pretty compact as a home defense gun. When you drop to a 10inch or below, you're giving up considerable velocity, and I'm not a fan of the fireball.

    • @mghegotagun
      @mghegotagun 3 года назад

      @@ElkRiverOffRoad
      Ah yeah. I spent the night looking at velocity charts and what the 556 needs. It seems like out of an 8.3 inch barrel the 556 even at close range won't have the velocity to do what it was built to do in the target. I believe I'll set my sights on the sig mcx virtus with its out-of-the-box build, piston system, and 11.5 inch barrel.
      A bit pricey for a first-time buyer, but it looks like the piston system makes it more reliable, and reduces the need for constant maintainance, which sounds great for a newbie, and if shit really hit the fan.

    Food for thought, copper rounds like the Barnes 70 grain TSX will expand out past 200 yards with a SBR. They are designed to expand all the way down to 1800 FPS. While this is great for SBR’s, it’s just a great for a 12.5, 14.5, 16, etc because it adds on about an extra 100+ yards of expansion compared to your typical ammunition while still having excellent penetration. Downside, it’s expensive. Also, this was an excellent video. You hit the nail on the head when you said that they take more effort to shoot well. I once went down a precision SBR rabbit hole and found out what your said. Still accurate, just harder to shoot well.

    Speaking of reading. In No Easy Day, the author states ST6 had two uppers, both HK 416's. One10.5 and one 14.5. He states that his 10.5 did most of what was needed and worked for "90 percent" of situations. Obviously it is effective. The UBL raid had 10.5 barrels front and center. It killed all who needed killed, just fine evidently. 2500 FPS is blazing fast btw.

    My first SBR was a 7.5”, tons of fun (I still have the upper) but I went with a 12.5” while waiting on my can to clear as I wanted to stay within warranty restrictions, now I’m a big fan of my 12.5 with with a griffin Optimus in the mid length configuration for a patrol rifle/bedside gun. I’ve been tempted to try an 11.5 but I think I’ll just use the 12.5 as an excuse to get a dedicated 5.56 K can and then get an 11.5 later.

      It was created to fit through doorways without getting hung up even with the stock fully extended. It fits through bulkhead doors on ships, fits through standard household doors. If you plan on entering a habitable structure, vessel or offshore platform while armed then it's the right choice. If you intend to be the bush bunny and never enter an enclosed structure again then definitely try to get another 3+ inches of barrel to get that extra energy available.

    • @Goldenwithaleash
      @Goldenwithaleash 2 года назад

      @@flawless_Cowboy yes. If the muzzle brake/flash hider is “permanently” affixed. That gives you an overall length of 16” making it a rifle and not a SBR. Most 16” barreled guns are really 17.5” if you add the A2 flash hider. They just pin and weld the thing on. A gunsmith can get it off if you ever wanted but you can’t just spin it off with a wrench like you can on a 16” barrel. Tons of companies sell 14.5” pinned and welded barrels directly from the factory. Mine is a BCM and that’s how it came from them.

    Thanks for all the great videos! On the length issue, higher velocity equals less time of flight to target, which equals less drop (and more forgiveness for distance estimation), and less time for environmental factors to affect the bullet (i.e. wind). So higher probability of hit with longer barrel (up to a point when the muzzle velocity flattens). Plus all the benefits of terminal ballistics. So longer is better... 😉

    • @gearedmind
      @gearedmind Год назад +1

      @@DTreatz I ended up selling it and have a Criterion Core 12.5 to replace it. For reliability, carbine gas properly ported will be great suppressed and unsuppressed. A mid length gas 12.5 has to be more finely tuned. I could do a A5 and A5H1 buffer both suppressed and unsuppressed with Triarc. It was smooth shooting, but I preferred going with a tried and true gas dwell time over something that is a less recorded in terms of reliable functionality. Simply put, if you can only have one, I’d recommend a carbine gas. Also check SOLGW 12.5 barrel.

      Joshua Bressel - so you don’t like it... the rest is opinion and my mileage varies greatly with your summary.
      I have 3000+ rounds of supersonic through my 9.5 300 with ZERO A-typical fouling. And only a single failure to feed due to a bad mag that once tossed... never another fail.
      Reloading or not is irrelevant- everyone makes economic choices on ammo. I shoot commercial 300 for no more than 50-60c a round and I will reload... but rarely unless cost is north of 75c.
      To your point on cost - here’s my math. One of garands fully set up BCM’s optics et all is going to be 3K..
      My math says that’s 6000 rounds of feed for my 300Blk 9.5”...
      After years of shooting - my shortest 556 AR is now a 14.5” just because “insert random reasons proven in 30other videos and barrel inch by inch chop off velocity tests” (and my opinion too).
      Ever wonder why the 3 gun champs use 18” AR’s... cause they straight up work for 556 to cure MANY things AR centric..
      But I also blast off 400 rounds of 20c surplus 7.62x39 in my PWS diablo if I just want to shoot steel inside 100yds... I’ll take 125 grains of lead inside 150yds all day long vs 556 in short barrel
