Absolutely stunning! This is one of my favourite tunes. I've sung it to my daughter to calm her down since she was born so I can be quite picky of other peoples' renditions, but this is just gorgeous
Been playing dulcimer on and off for about 45 years. No teachers, not much in the way of recordings to point in any direction. Loving these videos. They showcase some of the techniques that I worked out for myself, point the way to new ones I can learn.
I am glad to hear that my videos have been helpful and have inspired you on your dulcimer journey, Andrew! You might enjoy some of the material at my website as well: www.JessicaComeauDulcimer.com Please let me know if you have any questions!
OK. That cuts it. I have to learn flat picking on the lap/mountain dulcimer. I know this is 7 years old now, but thank you Jessica Comeau. This was lovely....and inspiring.
Thank you! I’m glad if you were able to find some inspiration! If you’d like to learn more about playing the mountain dulcimer, I have more info at my website: www.JessicaComeauDulcimer.com
Eventually, the mountain dulcimer becomes an extension of oneself... The music that feels natural to one's soul emerges spontaneously! I am pleased that you have met the mountain dulcimer; enjoy the process of getting to know it ever better, and thank you so much for your kind words! :-)
I play a ceder creek walnut special. I've only played about 3 months and it has really helped with some personal issues i developed after the war in Iraq. Thank you for your music and for the claiming effect it has on me. I can see your heart in it and I think it's gorgeous. Thank you once again.
I hear dulcimers all the time....I must say this performance is just top notch. Sweet....well harmonzied....love the suspensions and the major 7th chords......the whole thing.....super.....thanks!
Jessica. Thanks for this. I have been away from West Virginia for too long and you took me back to precious memories of sitting at Granny's feet listening to the most heartwarming music a young boy could ever hear. I play several instruments with my bluegrass/gospel band but this took me home. Without any doubt my next project in the woodshop will be a dulcimer. Thanks again.
What a wonderful story, Kenneth... I am pleased that my music was able to revive special memories for you. Enjoy the journey of creating a dulcimer of your own and perhaps some music on it later! :-)
"Wild Mountain Thyme" is among my favorite peaceful songs to share when playing for others; I know what you mean about being places you have never been... except there is usually something oddly familiar about them... :-) Thank you so much for passing through to listen, Jeff!
Pardon me, but why would anyone down-vote this beautiful, unpretentious version of a classic song? It brought tears to my eyes and made me want to learn mountain dulcimer. Thank you!
Well, this video has had a lot of views, and it’s not possible to please everyone. I know, though, that a song will eventually reach the people who were meant to hear it and who would understand and enjoy it. I am glad that you are one of those people! :-) Thank you so much, and do enjoy getting to know the dulcimer better!
Oh the summer time is coming And the trees are sweetly blooming Where the wild mountain thyme Grows around the blooming heather Would you go, lassie, go? And we'll all go together Where the wild mountain thyme Grows around the blooming heather Would you go, lassie, go? And I will build my love a bower And yon pure crystal fountain And around it I will place All the colors of the mountain Would you go, lassie, go? And we'll all go together Where the wild mountain thyme Grows around the blooming heather Would you go, lassie, go? And If my true love's gone I will surely find another And to her I will sing Things that make her know I want her Would you go, lassie, go? And we'll all go together Where the wild mountain thyme Grows around blooming heather Would you go, lassie, go?
Really beautiful and sensitive !!! Looked everywhere, literally, to get a chromatic, teardrop dulcimer though nowhere to be found, at least in my price range. Thank you for the fabulous music, A Season's Greetings & A Wondrous New Year !!!
Funny. It took me falling in love the Clancy Brothers' versionas "Will ye go Lassie go" to make the obvious (in hindsight) connection with that music sheet that was lurking in my folder for so long.
A really nice rendition of this Scottish piece, and on a dulcimer to boot. Your playing is - well, it lets me fly away in my own heart and mind... Thank you!
Thank you so much, Ronald. This song is meant to transport the listener to a place and space in imagination, so I am pleased to hear that it does so for you. :-)
Ms. Jessica. Thank you so very much for this music, so beautifully played. I won’t go into why but you have made me smiled and cried at the same time and I am grateful for it. I have this video playing over and over all morning.
I had no idea a dulcimer could be played like this. Really a great arrangement! There's a passing Major 7th, I think it is, every once in a while that's really super tasteful.
That’s a beautiful arrangement Jessica, I play that on pedal steel and have just just purchased a mountain. Dulcimer so once I find my way around this beautiful instrument that tune will be my first one I hope I can learn to play. Best wishes from the UK.
Hi again, Jessica. I play this with a Celtic group on bowed psaltery. We play it quite fast, but I love your meditative version. I didn't know about the Magnificat connection, and now I can't wait to take your lead and play it at church, peacefully and quietly joyful.
Blessings, Sharon! Playing this song at church has brought me much joy, and I would be glad if playing it in a church setting would bring the same for you! :-) Merry Christmas!
Not many others play as beautifully and relaxed. I play the harp at the bedside and if I could only play my dulcimer as you do- it too would be used as I play for those who are ill!
I have always thought that playing the mountain dulcimer as a part of music therapy would be comforting not only for the listener but, in a way, the musician as well! :-)
What a wonderful way to share your music. Playing for the dying in hospice care, for those very ill or critically injured, for those suffering mental anguish or emotional devastation, for the homeless, for groups or for just one lonely soul... there is no better or more beautiful way to share God's wonderful gift to all of mankind in music. God bless you, Cindy and Debby. And of course you too, Jessica, for so generously sharing your music with all of us.
That's what this song is for, Phillip... :-) Thank you! I often play this song at church because it is the same melody used in a setting of Mary's prayer, the Magnificat, from the Gospel of Luke; it's a very comforting pairing altogether, even if it is just played instrumentally!
I haven't played my dulcimer in a very long time - wow - nicely done. I am getting a harp so will learn on harp. :) I think dulcimer playing is a bit harder for me than harp.
A beautiful piece beautifully played. Two days ago I had never heard of a mountain dulcimer until I saw one for sale. I searched youtube and found you. The sound of your relaxed playing persuaded me to give it a try, so I now own that dulcimer. I would love to learn this piece. Do you have a tab or lesson available? I would greatly appreciate it.
I have both! :-) These pages on my website will guide you to them: www.jessicacomeaudulcimer.com/lessons-and-tablature.html www.jessicacomeaudulcimer.com/products.html

I enjoyed your video. Very pretty tune. I’ve just started playing in January and I could only hope to be as good. At this point I’d settle for someone to recognize any song I might play 😉
Your music will grow as you get to know your instrument better, Carol! Thank you so much for listening... Maybe some of the resources on my website might be helpful: www.JessicaComeauDulcimer.com. Please let me know if you have any questions as you continue to explore! :-)

Yes, I am very fond of the warmth of C-G-C tuning as well! Thank you for stopping by to listen. :-)
I’m playing guitar and use the CG trick a lot , is this tune in CGC ?
I’m hearing C and G 😊

Harp is indeed lovely! However, mountain dulcimer could in fact be a little easier since you have only 3 strings to worry about! :-)
Great job thanks for putting up the video
