Worship is offering our bodies as living sacrifice. I don't know how worship got equated with singing... Also you're right about many modern worship songs are more emotions based than God focused. That's why in my personal moment with God i prefer singing hymns and classic worship from maranatha and integrity music which are mostly scriptural and God focused, mostly declaring God's majesty and worth.
