Kim Jiwoong being pushed as a visual is a tactic mnet has to use cause lets admit it we all fall for lookism. But Jiwoong has solid dance skills and his voice is very jazzy something we don't see in kpop very often now cause we keep debuting tone deaf kids who can dance.

Yes I'm glad someone said it this song only fits certain people which is why so many trainees struggle with it and drop down stars like jiwoong can sing for ex. Ost for a drama he did dream of you fits him more

I've seen some of Jiwoong's lives and he is a good singer. He has a sexy and raspy low voice register, which doesn't suit "Here I Am" so yeah, I didn't expect him to ace that signal performance. He will have an opportunity to show off his unique tone later on for sure.
I agree. I think the signal song was definitely out of his range however his voice was really good at the beginning with the deeper part. I wish the show would allow for trainees to adapt the song to their range so they have the most successful chance at showing their singing skills but in every season of survival shows the signal song is pitched high which causes trainees to struggle

I watched Wang Zihao’s audition and the man is brilliant. I can’t believe he got cut from the footage, and the praise he got during the signal song was not enough.
Also watched Wumuti’s practice video of UN Village. His voice is like so good like 👏
And as always I’ve embraced the aunty fan life because of Matthew. He’s adorable and Matthew/Hanbin have to debut together.

For Zihao, Mnet probably cut his audition bc it was a Lay song. Knetz are quite hostile towards Lay and it's likely Zihao and Mnet would've received backlash if they'd aired it.

i'm really happy that the editors included moments when trainees helped each other. like when lee seung hwan helped lee da eul gain more confidence, seok matthew comforting takuto in the dorm, ouju being like the leader of the no stars, and keita helping jay (which you mention). I feel like it shows the aspects of these trainees which will be important if they debut, and that's their ability to help and support eachother.

Episode 2 was definitely the most entertaining piece of media I've seen this whole week😂 Jiwoong is my top pick (after hui) and I definitely get how you feel! Also, I like that they made the mentors look a bit more useful (especially compared to girls planet) and the contestants calling their parents made me emotional for different reasons😢 I'm really excited for the songs for the next episode!

Jiwoong has the voice mostly best for rapping than singing. He has the low raspy voice which suits hot or dark themes. Here I am is a high song. A person's voice shouldn't be judged by one song that doesn't suit every voice type. But yeah he is my pick 1 also agree he needs to improve his vocal atleast for the show
i feel like you should check him singing from times before. he’s GOOD. and he’s a bass, a raspy bass. those songs aren’t for his vocal range. but yeah he does well as a rapper too.
Idk if it's just me but haven't you noticed that at the beginning of the missions Mnet shows the G group doing better than the K group making it look like they are gonna win but then magically the K group starts doing better and then they miraculously beat G group... I'm not saying Mnet playing favorites but *Mnet's fucking playing favorites*
I don‘t know, I watched pretty much every full version of the performances and must say the k group did do better overall, so for me the result is quite deserving… also I did not have the same impression even while watching the episodes cause as much as I love the g groups personalities, overall they just did not do as well and a lot of their performances were actually quite bad👀 it was only mentioned by other k trainees that they did not expect the g group to do that well and that they have special talents e.g. acrobatic skills, so basically they thought they are all gonna flop and were surprised when the g group started flipping all over the stage🥴

@@sour.lemonny8344 uhh same I’m also a stay🫶🏾 I was so excited to see groups perform stray kids, but I felt bad for them because to nail stray kids‘ rap parts is so hard, even for native speakers!! so I feel you, if mnet did choose the songs for them, they really did some trainees real dirty :(( just curious because I did see several people say that this time the boys were allowed to choose their own songs, is there anything confirmed yet? because I thought it was a given to choose their own performances, until I heard that in gp999 the songs were chosen by mnet… I just think that most song choices do make sense here, that’s why I’m a bit confused👀

i also felt especially bad for bak do ha during the vocal practices because it's clear that this song is out of his range. there's nothing wrong with having a lower singing range, and they should have two arragnments or something that allows the trainees to show off what their voice is actually capable of

You know how Mnet likes drama. And seeing contestant's non-tenor voices crack, get breathy, or having them forget lyrics because of anxiety is what adds "spice" in their eyes.
It's unfair really since there's a bias towards tenors but the contestants that most people don't vote for are usually the vocalists.
This has always been one of my biggest critiques on these types of shows. Only emphasize tenor voices (sometimes even countertenor range) while not allowing space for lower voices, despite having MANY examples of low voices thriving in the industry? Makes 0 sense.

Hui is really good in singing, but he himself mentioned that he needs to practice his dancing.
And I'm happy that the other trainees didn't hesitate or feel weird about helping him out. And Hui is so humble and sweet!

14:48 I remember when Zhang Hao said that he was worried for Han Yujin because unlike the Global Trainees, K-Trainees from Yuehua didn't go through that much training? It felt so heart-warming seeing him worried for Yujin despite being rivals. Mnet can never evil-edit my man Zhang Hao.
15:19 Although I feel bad for the trainees, 4-Star trainees should be criticised for their mistakes because there are so many 3-star and 2-star trainees who have the ultimate 4-star vocal skills and yet their ranks are low (cough popularity cough ranking cough system).
Okay, hear me out about this... I'm not saying this based on the final ranking, but I think 3-star trainees and 2-star trainees have the highest chances of debuting. This is because they still believe in working their asses off and they don't let their guard down. I've seen so many 4-star trainees suffering because they feel the ultimate pressure of not letting their number of stars slip down to 3 or 0.
It's simple - one experiences motivation to aim higher, but one feels fear when protecting their current success.
I truly trust that Sung Hanbin, Matthew, Zhang Hao, Keita, Haruto and Hui will debut because they aren't hungry for the stars, they are hungry for the final success.

Totally agree about Daeul!! Even though he was zero stars because of his ending fairy smile a lot of netizens took notice of him. More than other trainees with higher stars
I honestly still do not quite understand how they thought of the signal song test as an appropriate measure to rank these boys, I‘m a bit mad… it just doesn’t make sense for everyone to sing this one high pitched song and be evaluated from it🫠 like there are so many contestants that have such a nice low register, so why let them sing out of their comfort zone?? also, am I the only one thinking of the rappers… some of my favourite trainees in this show are rappers, so again: why let them sing in this difficult register?? I get that idols should be well rounded and all, but it just does not sit right with me👀
I felt that they did bak do ha kinda dirty tho with not letting him sing in a deeper key like it was obvious he has a deep voice and can't reach higher notes.. it's nothing he should be blamed for
It's always been like this on these shows. The title song is always impossibly high, especially in some parts. And then when the evaluations and mentoring happen, drama follows, because "how is it possible that there's a portion among these 100 people, that can't sing it?" It's just one of the many issues of Produce (and girls/boys planet, but let's be honest here, that's just rebranded produce). But we're still here and watching aren't we, so I guess it works...

Overall I think it was good my top if defo like Seok Matthew, Sung Hanbin, Zhang Hao and Keita. Personally I think they are super talented I was a bit disappointed with Kim Jiwoong's performance as I expected a bit more and my sisters were saying he should've been moved down 2 stars, but I still believe he has potential to be better. I still think that Lee Hoe Taek has amazing talent, I think that he definitely underperformed in the dancing aspect but I could tell there was a lot of pressure (esp from the mentors). But defo still in my top 9
I love Dang hong Hai, Jay and Krystian but they all need to get more screen time. My fav overall is defo Seok Matthew I'm rooting for him and Cong too. That's pretty much my evaluation.

Mnet is definitely pushing Jiwoong just for his visuals, unfortunately. i personally don’t think his vocals and dancing are anything special but we’ll see if he improves. i just hope people are supporting him for the right reasons 🙃

I hope people don't forget about Yoon JongWoo, the guy who sang an octave lower in Mirotic. I really enjoyed that part and in the full performance you can see he's a very good and sharp dancer. There's also a hilarious clip of him from when the boys do a blind what's in the box challenge and the ghost coming from under the table, where he starts scolding the ghost lmao. But yeah, they've only really been pushing Kim JiWoong from that group, and as much as I love him also, I really hope JongWoo can raise in the rankings as well. They've mostly only shown him for the BL tease moments with JiWoong so far.

When it showed them all sitting in the theatre room watching the episode, the only thing I could think about was how sad I felt for the ones who saw themselves being completely cut out from performances or getting no screen time whatsoever. I hope they actually aren't letting them watch all of the episodes in real time because I can't imagine how disheartening it must be to see all of their hard work not being shown or possible future evil edits once someone a non-mnet pick starts getting too much support 😭
I feel like this episode really showed who Mnet wants in the finals and who they don't, if you look at the past two episodes roughly twenty-five contestants get screen time. I mean nothing against the my house boys, but why show them over some two or three stars that moved up, wouldn't the be a better story?
I am not a fan of survival shows but because I am a BL fan so I am watching for Jiwoong and now there are many good contestants. I fall for Jay his vocals are awesome.

I've honestly been wondering why they didn't get foreign idols as judges for this because I feel like the korean mentors are obviously going to be more biased to the korean trainees, whether they realize it or not. This is evident in the way that they're more generous in giving stars to korean trainees.
Also, I honestly half expected they're gonna have another version of the signal song in another language, kinda like Nekkoya in Produce 48, yk just to level out the playing field a little bit, but nopee.
You know when you said that the song, Here I am, was very high, I instantly thought about JYP when told Stray Kids, during their reality, that Hellevator seemed to be created for a gg and not a bg because it was that high. Anyway Stray Kids are Stray Kids and knew that they can do it, but in general the boys has quitely deep and low voice, why give them a so high song?! 😅😂

He's talented, he has decent rapping and stable vocals!

Seung Hwan performing Mirotic and not having 1 second of screentime while doing it is seriously A SIN. Even if his voice cracked on the climax note, he still touched that really hard note, that guy knows how to do everything, but Mnet always picks one trainee out of every group/company and cut everyone else in a criminally OBVIOUS way (Ichan also did an amazing work and u can't even tell that he was there lmao).
I don´t remember the guy´s name but he was the one with the rose, the sexy one (omg that´s really cringy to say), and i have nothing against him but if u see the complete Mirotic performance, everyone is doing the same as him, or even better. But no one but him got even 1 fking second of screentime. And in the next mission the rose guy messed up but he kept his ranking of stars and literally no one else did that, not even Hui. And don´t get me wrong, it is not this guys fault (it´s Mnet´s), but it´s really frustrating and no one can´t deny it.
Seung Hwan won undernineteen and was part of 1THE9 and believe me when i say that the guy is REALLY GOOD, but u can´t even tell who he is just for the damn editing, and I´m sure this happened with a lot of other trainees too, really talented guys who were covered by the shadow of another trainee that mnet decided to highlight.
Agreeed honestly he works so hard and is so talented and deserves to debut !! Also he took off time his practice to help the other trainees so he would be such bg member material !!

I agree that the zero stars are prime entertainment. I love to see people who are truly committed to improving themselves. My favorite moment was Hanbin asking Doha if he wanted a hug.
Unpopular opinion (from someone who hasn't seen Jiwoong's acting), he sings poorly, his rap in Mirotic was meh, and the judges weren't that impressed with his dancing. I agree he should've been dropped to 2 stars. It'd be nice for the final group if the members were the most talented the program has to offer.
I think Mnet wants to push JiWoong for his visuals, good source for fanservice. You see that boy love moment?
@@cecylialauri3086 I think you're right. It will drive ratings for the show, but I'm not convinced it's the best path forward for the group. Groups formed from competition shows seem to have more die hard solo stans--stans who will be upset if a member they supported reaches the top 9 in the finals, but then gets hardly any lines when they debut. Then management is in a pickle because they either have to reduce the quality of the music by giving a subpar member more lines (to appease vocal solo stans) or, if they commit to quality music, they have to deal with enraged solo stans.
@@flaggov6949 I think Mnet pushes him since he is LGBTQ and they want some representantive to represent them, but there must be some actually talented LGBTQ people. Like in the west we have Lil Nas X, Troye Sivan and Sam Smith who are talented LGBTQ people. I know Korea is more conservative, but still they excist and some of them must have talent. However Jiwoong is brave enough of being in this show and be himself I respect him for that. But he is not that talented as an idol.

honestly there is also another ex idol who got into boys planet!! Cha Woongki and Oh Seongmin (Sungmin which not correct name) they're from TO1 (their stage name is Wonggi and Jerome! And Up10tion which Hwan Hee and Lee Dongyeol (Xiao),, these four have such a beautiful voice haha. But oh boy, up10tion is so underrated pls check them out! What's always frustrated me with these shows is that they make everyone sing the same song and that that's what their "level" is based on. It's so clear that some of the contestants are much better singers than what the show makes it seem, it's just the song that doesn't fit their voices. And it's especially frustrating with the rappers. Like, why are you basing a rapper's skill level off of a high-pitched singing-based song?? I think it would be much more interesting to use the trainee's actual talents and let them display that instead of having them be berated by the coaches for not being able to "sing properly". But I guess that wouldn't make for as entertaining of a show according to Mnet...

Didn't they show Han Yujin on the sexy cam? He's an 07 liner, hence a minor... Luckily, there doesn't seem to be that many minors on this show in general! So far, I only know about Yujin, Takuto and maybe a third one... There might be more, and I just don't remember them because of Mnet's editing.
