The only running water I have anywhere near me is a tiny stream like this, it’s been on my mind since last closed season. Definitely going to go and explore it this week, now. Great stuff
Nice one :) hope it's good!
The techniques we used on similarly small streams is to go and create some swims a few days before because, on the day you will spook everything. Decent sized fish were usually perch or chub...fun, as you said.
It brings back those feelings of excitement and adventure we all had when we started fishing at a very early age. Glad you ( and I) still are able to tap in to that part of our childhood. Another lovely little video, Carl!
So glad to hear that :) Yes, for sure. Not sure it will ever leave me! ❤️ Thank you!
3:27 adorable chunky fish , all hail bob the chunk.
Hey Carl, great video ! Thank you. Do u just fish with worms on little streams like this?
Cheers Stuart! Yep worms work really well!
🔥🎣
I love that you do this kind of fishing, combined with showing you stalking. I see far to often people who walk on, setup their boring bite alarms and just sit there for the entire day and catch nothing - how boring lol
That's carp fishing this isnt
@@FixDylann I wouldnt describe it as 'carp' fishing, there are so many different ways to catch carp which in my opinion are far more fun
I think for many of us, small stream fishing is the steeple of our angling background, and it’s so refreshing getting back out on these waters after fishing hard on nights and travelling all around the world! It truly is amazing how much excitement it can hold.
Agreed !!!! :)
Absolutely loved it. Reminds me of how I started fishing and where I too also end up going back to. Fishing on big lakes is always fun but fishing tiny streams rivers and even canals can give an equal buzz if not bigger when you catch on them when you don’t expect to. Absolutely amazing video as always Carl.
Cheers Jamie! Glad it brought back nice memories. For sure, such a fun, exciting and simple way of fishing. It never gets old :)
Great episode Carl, I've seen over the year you fish lots of Rivers, I also live in the UK and was wondering do you need a membership or day ticket for each river you fish or are there plenty of rivers that can be fished for free? And I'm missing out somehow 😂
I find most fishing clubs have some small bits of water you can fish. Although sometimes you’ve just gotta go asking farmers for permission :)
Just to add my 2 pence worth, it really does depend on where you live in the country, I grew up in Lincoln and there was free fishing everywhere, when I moved to Salisbury, it was a bit of a shock to find out there wasn't a single lake or stretch of river within 10 miles that wasn't either ran by mainly syndicates or local clubs.
Yes for sure, Omi grew up in Winchester, where the Itchen has a similar story. Very few free stretches!
@@fishwithcarl I've fished from my mates Carpet warehouse, his land backs onto a very small stretch of the Avon, other bank being LAA controlled, and every time the baliff attempts to move me on. Not sure who's in the right here but non the less I've given up reasoning so just ignore him till he gives up
What's your take on this?
Yes it's hard, as technically no one can own the actual river, just the land to the edge of it. If your mate has land backing onto it, then it technically you could fish it as the land is owned by him. Wonder if this helps: www.land-search-online.co.uk/information/fishing-rights-on-rivers/
I absolutely love this kind of fishing, i also made some of these bottle traps before, never caught anything tho. I at least expected some invasive crayfish because i catch em all the time there but nope 😅
I absolutely love fishing spots like this! It's so simple and basic, as you said. Catching fish where everyone else has written off as ludicrous has its own rewards.
When I was a kid we used glass milk bottles with little bits of bread for bait traps.
I must admit that this type of 'off the beaten' track style angling is my favourite. Often free or low cost, no rules and very few other anglers about! You captured the essence very well!
What fun. Without giving the exact location away, is that venue on the HDAS ticket?
One thing I’ve learned as an angler is that you should never underestimate small pounds and streams! I caught my PB channel catfish and bass at a very tiny pond!
Ah that's awesome! For sure! You never know :)
Nice one Carl. Fishing small streams is my favourite, often with a centrepin, tiny Japanese jighead and tiny piece of Isome worm or grub. Have you tried the Japanese styles Tenkara or even Tanago? You can improvise with a small whip, or just a couple of sections...👍
5:12 i am one of those giiiirrrls that follow him😏😉 AND you ofcourse! Double trouble
13:14 amazing 👍 salam dari Indonesia 🙏🇮🇩👉🔔
I am guessing the local British Cray-Fish have gone extinct there too 😟 as i would of expected to see some in those fish traps.
Yes it's a shame :( Native white-clawed crayfish are very endangered but not extinct yet.
Hi it’s me again I really need some help with catching fish in my local stream they get spooked very easily and they don’t really eat anything
Because I’m wondering if I should use some different tackel but I’m really confuse
Looks fun where do you find these little streams and how do you know if you can fish them with out a farmer chasing you nice video
This stretch is on a local fishing club :) If you check your local fishing clubs they will usually provide maps of their waters.
What a video! You've probably said the thing that all of us who grew up beside a tiny river think. Keep up the good work, mate.
Brilliant, loved it, I just feel sorry that I lived for 13 years in the UK southwest near Salisbury and never ever went fishing not even once although I saw some big chub in the clean rivers… well I never had time
That's the stream I fished all the time as a kid lived in a flat nearby loads of big chub and trout back then
Oh that’s cool! Not many big chub around now but still one or two!
Amazing video as usual. It's like you have a whole film crew with you. Like lots of people I learnt to fish on small streams, so for me this video is evocative of times that were simpler and more carefree.
very beautiful video friends, we are very interested in seeing it. greetings from us.
Thank you!
1 micro river 1 chub and carl turns into jon b
@@HIGHJEFFREY you good man?
@@hoebertrabeck1621 i am now i unsubscribed ‘man’
Think S stein was just playfully remarking on a similarity. I didn't read into the comment as a dig :) as it wasn't made/ or intended to be like a Jon B film. All the best AnfFoamer.
@@HIGHJEFFREY 1 less negative energy on the channel good luck 👍
😂
Ive been using this method on my local canal for the past few weeks now and its very enjoyable ive caught more fish using just a shot and hook than any other way. Great video 👍
Nice one, glad to hear it! Thank you :)
Fantastic vid Carl. It's always good seeing you fish little small waters like this and enjoy yourself. And there's always that moment of suprise possible like with that big Chub. Never overlook any type of wild water. It could produce a fishy suprise.☺🎣
The ginger fisherman’s last video was something similar in concept to this…he fishes a larger stream than this, but it’s not huge! The size and quality of the fish he catches is eye opening!
Edit: ruclips.net/video/oSgMMX-UMms/видео.html
Yes, it's surprising isn't it! His local river is so alive. We recently did another collaboration which will be up at some point. This one was a fishing challenge. Grateful for his help in showing me some more good spots. He knows it like the back of his hand. Cannot believe the amount of fish that river holds.
@@fishwithcarl I look forward to it! I watched a challenge video the other day! The 3 vs 1 video!
I regularly fish like this on tiny streams and rivers often in the middle of nowhere with nothing more then a rucksack net and small lures on an ultralight setup.... I've had the most fun this summer chasing chub all over the South East of the country and would strongly recommend anyone and everyone to do the same!
Chub and barbel have always eluded me! Even when I fish on flowing rivers I still struggle! Seemingly I’m always fishing on the wrong sort of rivers!😂
All we get in my local area is sticklebacks lol
This was incredible, amazing chub too! Very inspiring! I’d love to see another huge giveaway btw
i caUght my biggest german brown trout in a creek just like the one you fished. Those little slivers of water can be a gold mine.
Criticising your brother is not the way to keep me on this channel. Even though i have been watching for years.
Our teasing is always in Brotherly jest :)
Damn, it's called banter. Chill, dude.
Defiantly not me watching fishing while fishing cuz I’m not catching but love your videos also on your other videos what drone do you use or should I go ask cal 😂
Glad you like them! Hope you caught in the end :D Mavic Pro 2!
@@fishwithcarl brilliant thank you ended up catching 4 biggest being a 26lb 4oz linear on 2 bits of fake corn
Nice!!
Hi Carl I love your videos 🔥
Thank you!
Dear Carl. I wrote you, but you still ain't callin'
I left my PB, my Insta and my fav lake at the bottom
I sent two common carp in autumn, you must not've got em
There probably was a problem at the local lake or something

All the best wishes,

hello!
I am an American with friends in Cornwall.
One of them goes hiking with their dog in the Car Galven area. They came across a very fast-running stream. I have been dogging the internet to discover if there are any fish there.
Anyone know?
Also, where are you fishing in this video?
Cheers!
Love this style of fishing its what I've been doing all year. Love that you can do it for an hour or all day aswell. Great vid and some lovely fish.
I'd recommend anyone to get into this it's amazing hobbie and so much fun.. great video lads 👌
Cheers Peter!
Hahahahahahahahaha, well Carl, you've got +1 to your "girls" count, at least. I watch both your channel and Alex's and find them both delightful. To be honest I found your channel through Alex's, and I found Alex's only a day or two before through youtube recommendations about growing plants. I gave it a try because I saw glimpses of your personality in his bee keeping videos, so I figured your videos wouldn't just be dry information like I would have expected from fishing videos (and I had a question burning in my mind). Before your channel I knew nothing about fishing other than the stereotypes about how incredibly boring it was and how old men were the only ones who liked it. I kept asking myself "If that's really true, then why do people do it? What do people actually see in fishing?"
That said, I think if more ladies gave your channel a chance, they might find they enjoy it as well. Your personality definitely gives these videos a shine.
I learned to fish in a tiny stream in Norfolk with my dad. The place was alive with Rudd and a few tench. I’ve never fished anywhere since that feels the same. These wild venues are always special. You literally have no idea what you might catch. Nothing beats it. Great video Carl you took me back to my childhood for a few minutes.
I can resonate with that ar kid, every time that float goes under, or.tip goes round it just adds that extra bit of adrenaline, cos ya ain't got a clue if it's a gudgeon or a 4lbs chub, or even if a pike nails that said gudgeon on the way in,!! Never leaves ya mate in it!!???
@@garyhopkinson1360 it never leaves you no.
Ha! My Dad used to tap the bottom of empty wine bottles out to make fish traps - the bottles with the inverted cone shape. He'd tap out the tip of the cone to make the same type of trap as bro here's done Brilliant alternative version here. I'm seventy by the way.
That was a "proper fishing" Video in the John Wilson style with no sleeping in a Bed-chair involved, Thank You. Though Omi's Naturalist input was definitely missed, even if she did make a Guest Appearance or two!
do you think a medium spinning rod (shakespeare beta 20-80g) would be good for brown trout? i would fish a small mepps behind a bubble float with a long 5lb leader
Hey carl, I love fishing for carp and I think they are wonderful looking fish. They are always exciting to hook into, but. I am wanting to go for bigger ones mainly in the double digits because whenever I go fishing for them I will get a 7 pounder if I'm lucky. The problem is, my tackle isn't strong enough to go for the bigger ones so I was hoping you could maybe recommend some fishing gear and rods I could get to seek the big carp. Thank you
Great stuff mate. In Norfolk we call the stuff with the sticky seeds goose grass. I called the seeds guzzygogs when I was a nipper.
*Proper name is Cleavers. Fanks Ggle 👍
Well done Carl brilliant fisherman fish sharnbrook in radwell
Thank you Lewis!
No problem good video can’t wait for more vidios
Hopefully one out this Saturday!
Hopefully keep it up
I see that your channel is very valuable. I would love to repost your whole channel, without changing anything, on the nice platform named Gan Jing World. If you agree with that, please let me know. Thanks
Oh man! That's totally my style of fishing - freelining and touch ledgering, just carrying the bare essentials in your pockets. Sadly I'm getting too old for the efforts required getting to the inaccessible spots, so I don't get to go very often these days.
hi i love your video they help me catch bigger fish
So glad to hear they've helped you, cheers Renato ❤️
I’ve often fished tiny streams and little holes in the reeds like these, it’s often surprising what large fish are lurking in there, it can be difficult fishing with stinging nettles. Barbed wire, and not always knowing where the bank actually ends, but a big lob worm is a killer bait in these spots
In Finland we often fish like this in the swampy areas where the natural springs come together to form tiny streams. The tiny streams can often be more than 3 meters deep though! Using just a rod a without reel, and the rig consisting out of a single hook and a single split shot to get the worm down.
But the fish in there.. small but stronger than anything else in their size, grayling, trout, perch , pike. All under 50 centimeters and won't grow larger, but spending their whole life fighting the current gets them BUFF.
Hello...
still see you again with your channel on my youtube brand.
your video is great, and I'm very happy to watch it on your channel.
thank you so much for entertaining me.

greetings from Indonesia.
Thank you for watching! :) You're welcome! All the best to you.
Hi Carl, i live in Rimgner East Sussex and as im sure you know living in the area a place called Balcombe mills, i have fished carp in lake for many years and have always wanted to try river/stream fishing, i oftern walk along the river at Balcombe to try and spot the fish in what i think is a good area but with no luck, would you have any advice on a good area to start with, and is pre baiting an area a good way to help even though they could be miles away. Thanks in advance if you get chance to see this message.
This is my favourite style of fishing Carl! I really like it that your trying to get the word out that you can have fun catching from micro streams
You certainly can :) Glad to hear CJ 👍
I'm in my 40s now but still enjoy a day getting eaten alive, stung and covered in burrs. Always amazes me what you can pull out of a trickle.
Small creeks are my favorite as well and for all the same reasons. Half the videos on my channel are me hammering huge migratory trout in small creeks.
I’ve got a fishing lake for you to try out is called Wick water
Thanks for the recommendation :)
No problem
More fish in there than my local river wear in Durham,we caught 5 minnows and a tiny chub after all day fishing.Proper shameful lol.
never under estimate a small body of water , my dad caught a 9lb barbal and a 27lb pike from a stream just as wide as that a we get schools of Zander in the 8ft wide fen drain running along our field .
That looks so nice
top class video as always mate im hopefully off to a canal for the first time in years monday after picking up a load of perch stuff today
Chubs are minnows that’s a carp😂 in the same family of fish but very different
I continue to fish any little creek or pond that I see. I guess it's more an exploration to see what species have made it. When I revisit places year to year, surprisingly there can be completely different species in that same area. Keep up the adventure!
Also why not set up some Kray traps whilst you're at it? Alex could cook them up and you'd be helping the water out.
Can u please tell us ur secret locations to catch good fish in the river please I’ve tried so many times and never catch😂😂😂
Great video Carl I have a dyke similar to that near me and I grew up fishing it catching almost all the species you can think or from pike to carp roach rude perch etc loved it I must go back and see if it's still as good 👍
Thank you! Nice, let me know how you do!
Wow! Amazing video. Fishing that small creek was quite a challenge!
Thank you!
I really want to try fishing on small streams, it's just finding somewhere suitable with permission.
Could you recommend some good catch and keep pike rivers in kent. preferably near tunbridge
Carl how do you know if your boilies are freezer only for example i got some mainline fluro pop ups and i dont know if its shelf life or if its freezer any help?
Gorgeous place
I love watching your videos there so entertaining and in the part of the video with the fish trap you should probably tie the string on the top
That's the only fish trap that I have seen catch anything. From survival shows etc.
Nice little video there Carl, your camera man is not half bad is he lol Thank you both 👍👍
Cheers James :) Yeah very happy, Cal's doing great! 👍
Got a few of these little streams near me after watchin this I might go and get the rod wet yon mon antha banger vid aswel keep it up 👍
Keep bringing out amazing content like this Carl, again great cinematography amazing structure to the video very informative keep it up champ💪💚
Thanks Robbie! :)
Great job with this video Carl! From the joy of the first fish to the description of why you fish these areas. It is the reason I keep watching. Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much mate!
Pike magic
What a beaut chub!
I live in Brighton, but my club is local to that area, we have the fishing permission for that stream, but you're the only I know who seems to have fished it, you've tempted me to give it a go mate! A few weeks back, I parked up the road in the layby, wandered back down towards the stream, that's a fast bit of road isn't it?, you need eyes in your arse the speed some of that traffic goes at!😄I took one look over the bridge and thought the same as you, 'REALLY'?😕and walked back to the car where my wife was waiting patiently for me to finish my recce! She said 'you're back quickly, no good'? I told her that you could hardly glimpse any water, let alone fish it!😪I hold my hands up mate, you cracked it good and proper, well done young man! And excellent camera work by your mate I must add!
Thank you! Haha, it doesn't look inviting at all! Not surprising it's hardly fished! Couldn't believe what it held :)
First hiiii
need to come fish some tiny water with me in SoCal..
I'm pretty sure that stream would have been a paradise to fish in as recently as the 1980s. Shockingly overgrown with no flow and, let's be honest, virtually unfishable for long stretches. Over extraction and fertilizer run coupled with the return of otters have been the ruin of many small streams in my home county of Essex.
Very decent chub though. Well done.
Thanks J! Yep, how things have changed :(

The magic unexpected wonder of fishing.....for the foraging side of the duo...every plant in and around that stream ...is..a natural chemical factory ready to provide any reverently picking person, with all manner of food n medicines...for the good of humanity....just don't let big pharma or any seed corporation try to patent any of nature's bounty...Keep remembering the mystic!

I’ve got another competition tomorrow and I love how I can watch one of your videos the day before and I will probably rewatch it when I am there
Good luck with it!
Yeah thanks Carl ❤
You're welcome Lewis!
Love this type of fishing its so fun finding secret rivers untouched by other people and seeing whats inside them. Also i want to see a fishing room tour would be interesting to see how much tackle you have acquired over the years
I’ll try and do that this winter! :)
Brilliant idea from the stream. My dad is severely sighted and we both would like to come fishing with you, we live in dorking so would it be possible? Do you live local? I’m 9 thanks you!!!
Thank you! :) That would be cool! Would love to fish with fans more often. But things are so busy, all the best to you and your Dad!
bro my first thought soon as you made a cast, was i would get snagged so much, then you proceeded to catch a lily big respect for leaving that in
that excited voice is me on my feeder when i got a 6-7 pounder hahaha
Can’t beat free fishing in my opinion, never mind exploring & fishing somewhere that may have never been fished & the fish never been caught 🎣
Yesss, for sure :)
what this series has taught me, is in UK, you can pull a huge fish out of sewage ditch
Can you please fish on the Gloucester canal. I caught a 4ft pike
I challenge you. I challenge you to learn another language in 6 months and then travel to the country using your new skills in fishing stores, camp sites and restaurants. If you pick a certain language, I'll join you in my camper with my rod ;)
Haha nice idea!
This is definitely now one of my favourite videos! As simple and honest as fishing can get, where everyone has or should have started from 👌
Wow, thank you Matthew. Happy you enjoyed it :)
