This band is worthy of a double album playlist, despite having only six albums with Jim. The Crystal Ship, Unknown Soldier, Spanish Caravan, Lost Little Girl, Unhappy Girl, LA Woman, Soft Parade (live version), Love Street, Love Her Madly…
Maggie McGill, Wild Child, Pace Frog, The Changling, Five to One, Hyacinth House, Strange Days, more than half of their songs are awesome, there are also the versions that were only recorded live such The lizard Celebrartion, Black Train Song, Gloria, The Doors have not had the recognition they deserve.
The Doors are a bit like The Beatles, where you can hardly find a bad song. Jim Morrison couldn't play any instrument in the beginning and had all his songs in his head!
YESSSSSSSSSSSS THE DOORS ARE MY FAV CLASSIC ROCK BAND Ray Manzerek is the reason i learned how to play the piano and make music in the first place, and I learned how to play the entirety of the keyboard part of Light My Fire in the 7th grade
Indian Summer is such a beautiful song, I've always loved Hyacinth House too, Jim sounding so weary . L.A. Woman is such a great driving song. L'america is far out too. What a band! A unique sound and full of surprises.
Those are my 2 favorite tunes too. I love the gentle, ethereal psychedelic yet sentimental sounds. Yes The River Knows is also in that same vein. Very rich. Of course they have so many other great tracks.
You’re great, and thanks for that. I’m a serious Doors fan, and as such I disagree with your dismissal of The Soft Parade. Wild Child, Shaman’s Blues and the title cut are great tunes, and worth listening. In no order: The Crystal Ship; Shaman’s Blues; Summer’s Almost Gone; Hyacinth House; Waiting for the Sun; Cars Hiss by My Window; Maggie M’Gill; Been Down So Long; The Soft Parade; Roadhouse Blues; Take it as it Comes; You’re Lost Little Girl; LA Woman; The Spy; Wild Child.
Wild Child is definitely one of the better tunes off the album. I have to confess I fell asleep by the time I started the title track. It starts off well with that preacher section but it just never takes off for me.
@@JTCurtisMusic You’ve heard the version on the box set right? The live version? It’s a whole new look at The Soft Parade, and it’s similar to Nirvana in the studio vs Unplugged in the way it exposes over production.
A month ago I added Waiting For The Sun to my ever-growing record collection, and despite not owning too many so far, it's definitely my favorite record I own. From the flamingo influnces within Spanish Caravan to the mellow blues-ey feel captured in Love Street, it's an all-around great album in my book. My personal favorite however has got to go to Wintertime Love. I had never heard that track prior to owning the LP, so it really emerged out of the blue for me; something about the waltz-feeling captivates me to groove along with the track. I feel it suffers from the same problem a lot of Doors tracks have in my heat: they are too darn short.
Loved this video, I’m gonna have to start listening to the doors more. I can’t wait for the Queen video and can you also do bands like the yardbirds and acts like Roy Orbison?
My top ten hits: Break on Through; Light My Fire; Love Me Two Times; Moonlight Drive; Hello I Love You; Five to One; Touch Me; Roadhouse Blues; Love Her Madly; L.A. Woman My top ten deep cuts: Twentieth Century Fox; Soul Kitchen; Strange Days; When the Music's Over; Not to Touch the Earth; Wintertime Love; Wishful, Sinful; You Make Me Real; Queen of the Highway; Hyacinth House. Great video!
The Doors, besides CCR, is my favourite band of all times. Every song is a pleasure to hear. My three favourites are definitely Moonlight Drive, Twentieth Century Fox and Break on Through. To me Jim is just the most interesting person in rock history, his life, his song texts, just everything makes me feel sad that I could never attend one of their concerts to see him live. When I started to get more interested into music I looked through my playlist and found Roadhouse Blues jsut sitting somewhere between Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and CCR and I thought I had to spend more time with their music. The only other songs I knew at the time where Break on through, Light my Fire, Riders on the Storm and Hello, I love you. But when I listened to all the other songs there was no stopping. Since this day I am so much in love with every song they ever produced, but yk this is from a die-hard fan and I still respect ur opinion ( cause lets be honest, the soft parade truly is the worst one :) ). They also introduced me into the world of psychedelic rock and in genreal sixties music and now I also love other bands like Jefferson Airplane, The Hendrix Experience, Cream, and in general nearly everything from the sixties. So you could say the Doors had a really big influence on me.
Excellent list, JT. Except for "Touch Me", which has always sounded amateurish to me (subjectivity, I know), I would enjoy that album. Here's mine. SIDE ONE: 1. Break On Through (2:30) 2. The Unknown Soldier (3:20) 3. Horse Latitudes/Moonlight Drive (4:40) 4. Take It As It Comes (2:20) 5. Wild Child (2:40) 6. L.A.Woman (7:50) SIDE TWO: 1. Light My Fire (7:10) 2. Strange Days (3:10) 3. The End (11:40) BONUS TRACKS: My Wild Love You're Lost Little Girl Back Door Man Five To One Riders on the Storm Gloria (From Alive She Cried) I suck at math far too much to attempt a running order that is less squishy on side two.
Yknow I think Waiting for the Sun off of Morrison Hotel should’ve been on here. I just love the song, such cool sounds on that song in general and catchy too
No one really talks about the 2 albums the band made after Morrison died; Other Voices and Full Circle. I think they're somewhat okay, and I'm glad that Manzarek, Kreiger and Densmore got to showcase their talents proper on this album. However, something's definitely missing without Jim
I did listen to them. They’re certainly decent 70s rock records, “Tightrope Ride” is cool, Ray does a admirable job fronting it. But yeah it’s not the same thing.
Bonus tracks on mine would've included are The Soft Parade, The Spy, I Can't See Your Face In My Mind and one song that really should've been included on The Soft Parade Who Scared You. The greatest surprise on this album is The Changeling. And could you please do a video of the best of the Terry Kath era from Chicago? Thanks!
Great video! The doors are awesome! I’m glad it’s not a video about “Jim Morrison and the doors” which so many videos on the doors turn out to be. They all added so much, tough it would’ve been cool to touch on some of Jim’s poetry. The song list was perfect though!
Great video man. I’m a huge fan of the doors! My favorite doors song might be Hyacinth house, very haunting lyrics. Other then that I love unknown soldier and it’s relation to the war in Vietnam
A great playlist, love the inclusion of "Love me Two Times" that song made me fall for The Doors, specially that solo from Ray, loved it !! When the Music's Over is better ending than The End, had to say it. (づ ᴗ _ᴗ)づ
Soft parade is not bad!!! I think it just showed the range of the band, with some songs that have such an amazing lyrics like Wild Child, Tell all the People or Shamans Blues. Not to mention the Soft Parade(song) which is my favorite piece of work by the doors :)
I don't understand why so many people don't like the Soft Parade. It probably is my least favourite but still a great album. I'm not including the albums that were released after Jim's death, although American Prayer was interesting it wasn't as good as any of there original studio albums and never heard the couple they did shortly after his death.
Love your artist playlists. You may not see this comment, but I have some ideas for future playlists. Don't know if these are hard-enough rock bands for you, but I'll give it my best: The Beach Boys Creedence Clearwater Revival Electric Light Orchestra The Byrds The Kinks Fleetwood Mac
Oh yeah! The first album has a lot of great tunes! My three favorites from that album are I’m the one, atomic punk, and on fire! BTW, I’m the One is my all-time favorite Van Halen song!
Beware that when "Linda Ronstadt" when she heard the Doors at the "Troubadour" thought /said "They Might be Real Good, IF they got a New and Good Lead Singer ! Ol west
I’m agree that the soft parade was the worst album, but I think that it deserves a mention the version of the soft parade in the PBS program, this was a really good and interesting song, the way that they play it and the powerful lyrics that if I remember well shows us a tired of the injustice of his time and a rebellious part of Jim trying to making us react and raise up to seek or build a better world.
Contd A cardinal sin and a disgrace...they had so many other songs. I like your reviews but you didn't give them their due. You need to do this again and get more involved in the selection of songs
Side 1 1. Break On Through 2. Light My Fire 3. Love Me Two Times 4. People Are Strange 5. When The Music’s Over Side 2 1. Touch Me 2. Wishful Sinful 3. Roadhouse Blues 4. Peace Frog 5. The Changeling 6. Love Her Madly 7. L.A. Woman
the doors is all about live gigs, not the studio records. a lot of renditions of many songs. if you say you like light my fire, which one you prefer? album records are boring is most cases, i prefer live music and improvisations.
The Doors had three distinct incarnations. First two albums were the acid-art rock band. This was my favorite version. The third and fourth albums are more a pop band. This is the weakest incarnation to me. The last two albums are the blues band. This one isn't bad, just not on the level of the first two albums. And there is the issue of Jim's voice being shot on the final album. As for lyrics, "The WASP" is truly incredible.
I had a look at the Spotify list and Im sorry to say this but its bad. I mean where is L.A. Woman? Where is Love Street or Unknown Soldier? And songs like 20th century fox and the Changeling are in the list....
All three you mentioned were considered, especially LOVE STREET which I admittedly like more than TOUCH ME but I felt compelled to include at least something from SOFT PARADE. The song LA WOMAN I just never got into, although I do love the “Mr. mojo rising” part.
I disagree. Lyrically, yes I would describe "Touch Me" as a "commercial song", but not musically. It is really progressive and ahead of its time with a very big instrumentation; it has been described as a precursor of prog. Commercial songs usually do not have a progressive or sophisticated structure.
Some of their tracks sound a bit ramshackled, as Love Me Two Times and Hello I Love you; They lack body, kind of underproduced or arranged. One of my favorites, Not To Touch The Earth, suffers from that typical sixties trashy tin can staccato drumming . But their first siix albums are the best rock six pack in history, even if the Soft Parade has some weaker songs. As the playlist is rather short, no The End or When The Music Is Over for me, better change them by two or three others, Hyacinth House - also sounding not as good as iit could have - and Peace Frog, Unknown Soldier, for example..
Disagree that The Soft Parade was The Doors' worst album. I think most people miss the point of the album, which is the rejection of God and the descent into hell. How can you ignore Touch Me, Wishful Sinful, The Soft Parade?
L.A Woman is in my opinion one of the greatest masterpieces ever made, musically and vocally brilliant
The Changeling is probably one of the most underrated Doors songs Simply brillant

I started learning but a power surge shorted my cheap keyboard from when my dad was a kid -_- I’m gonna try to nab one during Black Friday
Rush or Blue Oyster Cult would both be interesting playlists
I agree with both of those especially Rush! Rush is one of my top three favorite bands of all time!
A playlist on BÖC would be great
yes! blue oyster cult is amazing
The PBS recording of Soft Parade is phenomenal.
