These stories of the enslaved and women are both fascinating and so, so important to hear. They humanize history and give a voice to people who far too many would like to forget had a critical role in building the country.
This question is for Brenda Parker. How did you get started in living history? I would love to learn! As an African American woman (Im over 50). I love your work and I love history!
Keep telling the stories of my collective family! It is because of my collective family, that I (and others) live today! Note: When you speak the names of the slaves/oppressed people, they live! Thank You.
How very sad and unfair and tragic that when so many of Washington’s slaves were freed, they were cast into a whole new set of circumstances that were as much like bondage as was slavery.
Whenever this virus stuff is over I have a needle point of Gen. Washington kissing Mrs. Washington's hand that took a long time to do and I'd like to donate it if that would be alright. It is a round circle with fringes. There's a white fence behind them, and a garden. He's in blue & she has a red dress. Many different stitches were used and it's something that woman would do back in those times. I hope to donate it to Mount Vernon, that would be a huge honour. 💖BE SAFE💖
I’m ashamed of Pres. Washington for having slaves, and separating families. He could have paid his slaves, and employed them. Even though he freed some of his slaves, he didn’t do it until after his death. He needed them. I love Pres, Washington, and don’t generally talk disloyal to him, but I do wish he hadn’t owned slaves. Even tho that was the way of life.
@@sonshinesingz1498 Damn shame that he did. He was born a British Citizen. The Brits did some sickening things to lots of people of all genders, religion, and pigments. Guess George didn't shake it all off. I wonder if George Washington Carver was aware of his namesake's lifestyle, and what GWC would say about it today!

A part of history which should be remembered. Slavery still exists.
'Slavery is bad. I don't care if it's part of your culture'-Paul Joseph Watson.
