I used to work for Foden Trucks in Cheshire (UK) many years ago. The Cummins engines were massively popular because of their reliability, longevity and ease of maintenance.
It is almost the first weekend of summer and the Car Wizard had numerous vehicles that were dropped off at Omega Auto Clinic. I am definitely hoping for more videos of these vehicles that are coming into the shop for maintenance and/or repairs. For example, maybe the third-generation, 2019 Toyota Highlander AWD mid-size crossover with the 3.5 L V6 engine and the eight-speed automatic transmission. The Car Wizard will hope that the customer of this vehicle took care of it properly, because these eight-speed automatic transmissions will be problematic sometimes. Anyway, keep up the great work at the Car Wizard shop. Thanks.
I've occasionally thought about getting into hauling cars for people. I like to drive, I like to tow. I'd only do single vehicles, and I'd do door-to-door. The problem is, every time I've looked into doing it, what I would need to charge to make even a mediocre profit would be far more (2x in some cases) what people want to pay. just to give some numbers as context i'll use some data from experience towing my own stuff, and a couple of friend's vehicles. I'm ~2000 miles from the Wizard. I get about 15mpg towing an open full steel 20' trailer with a 4000# car on it. Take fuel at $5/gal (gotta run premium when towing), pay $20/hr only on driving time (30.75 hours each way), that's $2560. That doesn't include insurance premiums, wear and tear on the rig, food, hotel, etc., all of which cut into that number. Now I know, most of these shippers haul more than 1 vehicle. It doesn't divide the costs as much as people think, until you get to hauling 10+ cars on a single rig and there's a single drop point. That truck especially with the cap on it, that was probably brought in on a triple goose neck.
very nice truck and glad there was a happy ending on this one.I remember Wizard mentioning in crazy shop stories. I noticed the foam in the vents indicating the vent diverter flaps are deteriorating. Its amazing those doors and manufacturers using that foam which i know keeps it queit but not a long term solution. Good luck with that.
I can relate to two things in this video. I, too, have an older Cummins Ram: my 1998.5 2500 that I special ordered, and had to wait six months for it. I'm working through a pretty good-sized list to keep it going, hopefully, for at least another 15 years. Vehicle shipping: I will only use Horseless Carriage. Your vehicle is loaded into an enclosed trailer, and is not touched until its driven out at the destination. Yes, they are not cheap. I used them on my 2nd car, after a bad time shipping my truck. I had used A to Z Auto Shipping. They were terrible. They don't tell you that your vehicle may be driven, at times, to various "collection points". They had left the door(s) open at sometime at one of these stops, long enough that a bunch of leaves blew into the cab. They, stupidly, backed it onto an open trailer, so that wind pressure from driving on the highways popped the hinged ARE fiberglass bed cover open (yes, it had been locked). They compounded that stupidity by bungie-cording the cover, gouging the tailgate with one of the hooks. Incredibly incompetent and callous.
My grandpa recently bought a studebaker Avanti sight unseen and from a dealership across the country. No issues with shipping other than waiting for it, unfortunately that "perfect" condition Avanti has just been a pain. He's working on it though and i really like it :)
Gorgeous truck! So that's where the 308 is! I didn't say anything, but I've been thinking it! 😄 I appreciate the great shipping tips Wizard. In the not too distant past I've shipped cars back and forth between CA and TX multiple times and had good luck. But times have indeed changed. Although I don't have plans for shipping another vehicle any time soon, it's good to know what to watch out for and how to protect my interests. Thanks Wizards!
Heard many horror stories about shipping a vehicle; when I bought my Dodge, I got lucky finding a “drive away” that was to be delivered 20 miles from the seller, where I took a Lyft, exchanged paper, got a temp permit, and drove home.
This is a really good example of this gen Ram, especially for the mileage. I've had all the same problems with mine, same truck but mine has 186k on it now.
A phone call goes a long way to giving your mechanic a heads up. Asking for service A bit then at the last minute wanted B, C ans D is a very dubious thing.
that's how these things should be done, keeping your car going when there's nothing wrong with it that can total it out, keep it going... kudos to the owner.
I sprung for the aluminum mode doors and pulled the dash out to replace all of them. Went ahead and replaced the heater core and evaporator. Don’t have to worry about them anymore.
The Wizard's story here with this truck is just one reason why Jonny at the Car Ninja no longer accepts out of town jobs to work on in his shop, per a previous announcement he made in one of his videos. So many things that can go wrong to Jonny and on the way back to the customer.
2012 and older diesels are the way to go. No stupid EPA regulations. Wizard, you are 100% correct. All that additional emissions equipment is "choking the life" out of the engine. Literally! Luckily, in Texas they are pretty relaxed with deleted diesels, unless youre "rolling coal" down the road
Its never dull in the life of the Wizard... Here in NZ there is a massive shortage of Transport Trucks... Only once seen a Car truck on its side... not a pretty picture... what is that old chestnut... 'Pay a Dollar get a Dollar'... agree, if you value your car... use a proper shipper..
After you receive your vehicle from the shipper, check all fluid levels immediately. The shipper that my in-laws used got a "clever" idea to lighten his load a little. To save a few dozen pounds of weight, he had drained most of the fuel, coolant and windshield washer fluid from all vehicles on the trailer. Absolutely ridiculous! We were furious! How can you drain coolant and not tell the customer about it?! Good thing I was there when the car was unloaded, I checked everything right away (obsessive-compulsive disorder) and I gave that shipper a piece of my mind. A few pieces, in fact! No damage to the engine, by the way, but how stupidly unprofessional! His response? "We do this all the time to lighten the load." Wow! OK dude. We will never do any business ever again.
There’s TONS of hot shot drivers that literally have zero business being in the shipping business. Many of which have very little if any experience loading, delivering or especially hauling. And honestly? As a trucker with well over 2 million miles. There’s MANY steering wheel holders in 18 wheeler ls that also have ZERO business in the business.
Thank you Wizard and Mrs. Note two size diesels in Ram trucks, 3.0L is Italian made, the 6.7L is a Cummins, smaller one is OMG it is a whole new world: buying vehicles online sight unseen, shipping vehicles across the country to repair. The truck is cursed.
I've had 1 car shipped to me after purchase. Usually I try to work out a trip to pick up the car/truck myself, have a fun road trip home. This one time, I didn't have time and I asked the seller, a reputable used car dealer in Ohio, who should I use? He gave me his recommendation and said he'd been using them for years, rarely a problem, always good/great service and reasonbable pricing (2013). Get recommendations from people who ship vehicles all the time! See if you can overnight an Apple air tag for the seller to put in the vehicle and help track it.
Any Schmuck with a diesel dually pickup can become a shipper these days and that's the problem. I shipped my late mother-in-law's Lexus from NJ to the suburbs of Atlanta GA a few years back when she moved down there. I paid extra using a shipper who wasn't the cheapest. I'm glad I did, they did a good job with no damage to the car and got it there when they said they would. The old saying, "You get what you pay for" proves true time and time again usually.
There is a catch to those Air Tags. Someone with an iPhone has to be within blue tooth range. It is actually giving you the location of the apple device that pinged it, not the air tag itself
With all due respect your customer has more money than sense. There are plenty of reputable repair shops on the east coast that could have taken on this job and provided top-notch service. The fact that he wasted money shipping it to Kansas is insane.
It seems you haven't been watching the Car Wizard much. This is not the first vehicle he's had to come in from some other part of the country. Many others have either had vehicles shipped to him or brought to him themselves.
@@williamjones4483 just because other people have done it doesn't mean it makes a lick of sense. This isn't a lambo that needs an exotic shop. It's a dodge with 300k.
@joylesstiger there may be reputable shops but if someone is having an issue finding one, has an issue with multiple others he thought were reputable and is at his wits end but know for sure Kansas will at least give him an end to the whole ordeal, the shipping cost sounds like it's less than multiple other shipping orders or headaches to just know for sure it's done and done right, especially if they are busy guy who doesn't have as much time etc.
@@williamjones4483 Actually I've been watching the Wiz for quite some time now, and he's great. There are a lot of top-tier mechanics out there though. I have to question someone that decided to go through the headache of shipping a vehicle from Virginia to Kansas though. Sounds like someone didn't do their homework to me.
That is so true..cheaper is not better...check previous comments...past performance is key ...ask for a copy of their proof of insurance...also specify an enclosed trailer to avoid damage that could occur in transit
What an awesome owner, the man knows the value of that truck and keeping up on all the maintenance will give him many years of worry free motoring ahead.

Had a shipper deliver a truck from Delaware to Washington D.C. They towed it wheels down, and toasted the transmission. Didn't pay the claim. It cost me a transmission. The shipper, a rollback with a stinger said he had no idea you couldn't tow an automatic trans rwd wheels down for miles. Try suing a broker in Florida representing a shipper in New Jersey and doing anything other than making attorneys rich.
Not a car, but had a friend that bought a new modular home. I got a call after the shipping (& dealership) company dragged a half through a ditch, & subsequently the long end over the crown of the road ripping floor joist out of their hangers. Was told the 2nd half was going to be delayed a few days because of a truck break down. He called me with the start of the issues, so I did some checking ... The president of the company that manufactured the home told me no, the shipper didn't have a breakdown (the dealership had their own people), they had hit a bridge with the other half & were trying to repair it before the owner found out... The dealership was very surprised I had found out about their lies... Definitely do some background checks & reviews before you entrust ANYTHING to a shipper...! Thanx !
Great info on the part cannon video. I'm the owner of an 88 f150. Have been for 35 years. Still doing well. Does have a problem with wipers. Does the system have a hidden relay?
most shippers are really good and ahead of schedule, usually they require partial payment to pickup and partial payment upon delivery and I tip if its all good
I had the unusual situation. I bought a boat in Texas. My shipper had some type of medical issue caused by mosquito bite. He went home to Minnesota for about a month. Luckily, I got it intact.
There are a bunch of great diesel shops on the east coast. I take my dodge 2500 cummins to 603 diesel in new Hampshire. A bit on the pricey side, never had a bad experience. Spot on with finding the problem and fixing it. They also have manchester diesel and central diesel professionals in Boston Massachusetts. I heard great things about those shops.
On any of these turbos, get durable air filters. Had a friend whose air filter folded and entered the turbo. The turbo shattered and entered the intake and broke the valves and pistons. I believe he said that filter cost him $6000+ and that was in 2012 i believe
VinWiki, a show you were on recently, did an episode a while back about the problems associated with vehicle shipping. Their conclusion was none of them can be trusted and youre better off driving your vehicle cross country yourself if possible.
I would also suggest recording or photographing your vehicle before the shipper comes to get the car. Make a copy for the shipper and for the receiver of the vehicle. I would even record the car being loaded onto the carrier truck.
This makes me cringe so much. As a dealer, shipping companies give me so much anxiety. We have customers set up their own shipping, and I've had a few damaged cars and chaos. The customers who pay for the big fully enclosed semis usually have the best experiences, only way I'd ever ship any of my cars. You get what you pay for!
I've been a dock worker for much of my life, and now I'm a Truck Driver. I don't haul cars, but I can tell you personally there are many companies out there that do not care whatsoever if they damage your property. They want it done as fast as possible. They're easily identified by their rates. Cough cough YRC cough cough XPO.
I'd be surprised if this truck has the original transmission. My wife has an '07 Dodge RAM 2500 with the Cummins Diesel engine, and that engine will last forever, but her truck with about 250,000 miles is on its 3rd transmission.
There are 2 shippers I have used with no problems. They both sub-contract the shipping to individuals. I kept the business cards of those individuals. Only once did they come back to me for more money to ship because the location was a remote place in PA. They were having difficulty finding a person to do the pickup.
Only thing that sucks about the 3rd gen dodge ram 1500 2500 3500 ect all the frames rot out from the inside passanger side between both doors they rot out on the inside of the frame
There's a reason legitimate Auto transport companies charge what they do. I've hauled cars for over 20 years. Sometimes things happen. You need a company that has the proper insurance and can take care of a damage immediately. A company that pays its drivers a decent wage and maintains its equipment. If you pay bottom dollar, you'll get bottom tier service.
What's amazing to me is how much trouble the guy went through to get his vehicle to a repair shop he thought he could trust. If the owner from Virginia thinks the best guy for the job is in Kansas, there's a problem here.
It is a problem. 80% of shops in the US are incompetant, or dishonest. Very sad actually

Although I don't have plans for shipping another vehicle any time soon, it's good to know what to watch out for and how to protect my interests. Thanks Wizards!
This needs a follow-up video for the work being done.
Heard many horror stories about shipping a vehicle; when I bought my Dodge, I got lucky finding a “drive away” that was to be delivered 20 miles from the seller, where I took a Lyft, exchanged paper, got a temp permit, and drove home.
Love it ! There is just something therapeutic about Mr. & Mrs. Wizard !!
BlenddoorUSA is the only way to go with replacing the blender doors, along with a new evaporator and heater core while the dash is out.
Transmission work has gotten expensive, I had a rebuild done for $300 back in 1990, including removal and replacement. It was a good job
Surprise surprise a Ram with busted AC! We have 08 & 10 4500 Rams at work and they're ALWAYS in the shop for the AC! ...and transmission solenoids!
Haven't watched the video yet, but I love that Wizard can put a crazy insane title on a video and I know it won't be clickbait.
Damn, it looks great from 15 feet away!
Ehhh actually it’s around 03 before the EGR started and 07 the DPF… both nothing but problems and choke the hell out of the engine.
If only I could magically ship cars from the UK I’d have you service my little Citroen C1, trustworthy mechanics are hard to come by here as well.
For the shipping B.S. He could have just drove it out and flew back. probably cheaper in he long run.
Love the front end. The grill reminds me of the Viper. Very 90's look.
At first I was wondering why send a vehicle like that for for basic maintenance, but when you brought out the list it made sense.
Didn't realize the car shipping industry is plagued with such incompetence and carelessness...thanks for the precautionary warning.
First thing she noticed was the long dipstick 😮
Nice looking truck.
Nice to know that.
What is the problem????
It is within blue tooth range. Is that feet or miles???
@@hi_tech_reptilez Minus headaches plus a LOT of money. Is it really worth it? More money than sense. I'll stand by that...
Well done Wizard love what you do!! All the best!!❤❤❤
Great video. Sorry the owner had such problems. Always love to see the 66 Chevelle in the background. Looking forward to the next one.
Attitudes like that why real truck drivers despise Hotshot drivers
That is so true..cheaper is not better...check previous comments...past performance is key ...ask for a copy of their proof of insurance...also specify an enclosed trailer to avoid damage that could occur in transit
I am getting ready to replace the doors on my 2006 2500 with the alluminum blend door usa doors. I am not replacing it with plastic ones
What an awesome owner, the man knows the value of that truck and keeping up on all the maintenance will give him many years of worry free motoring ahead.
he knows the value of that truck but still used the lowest bidder when shipping his car?
@@littletimmy7057 Yes, people who don't ship vehicles regularly aren't aware of the difference. I'm assuming you've never had a vehicle shipped before?
@@Eargesplitten-Loudenboomer doesn't take a genius to know that you get what you pay for
@@littletimmy7057 I'm sure you make a lot of big financial decisions huh little timmy ;)
@@Eargesplitten-Loudenboomer i make smarter financial decisions than this customer who used the lowest bidder shipper for his truck that he loves so much

Hey Mr and Mrs Big Ox amazing job , we need more people like you
🤫🤐 And you have to make the exact some comments over 20 times !....
OMG it showed up!?!? 😲
Yes, Jared left us hanging at the end. Please link to part 2, I saw part 1 a week ago, but can't find part 2.
"That's a really long dipstick" ...
That's what she said.
Thank you for sharing the story behind shipping of this Dodge ram
Thanks for the heads up on shipping. 👍🏻
Still hard to believe there isn’t a reputable shop here in Virginia (I live in Northern VA).
For that short of a distance I believe I would have gone to get the vehicle myself.
No splash lubrication when the vehicle ain't in gear, that's the issue.
@@kalashnikov1343 It was an automatic transmission, not really splash lubricated.
Been waiting for this 🍿🍿
Not a car, but had a friend that bought a new modular home.
Thanx !
I thought this was the one you told about a while back. Glad to see it finally got there.
Wow, I feel fortunate in that I have had two cars shipped, both halfway across the country. In each case, it all went smoothly.
Great info on the part cannon video. I'm the owner of an 88 f150. Have been for 35 years. Still doing well. Does have a problem with wipers. Does the system have a hidden relay?
Thank you for the update on the 308.
most shippers are really good and ahead of schedule, usually they require partial payment to pickup and partial payment upon delivery and I tip if its all good
Hey wizard what was your old intro song called
I had the unusual situation. I bought a boat in Texas. My shipper had some type of medical issue caused by mosquito bite. He went home to Minnesota for about a month. Luckily, I got it intact.
When wizard was in the side mirror, you should have said it’s good at finding bald spots
Hate when people say "its just and old junk, who cares" This truck was actually very nice, damn it must have been annoying for that Customer :/
"We don't really work a lot on big diesels" (big bus trying to hide in the background)
I would only use OEM filters, or very high quality aftermarket.... Some of the parts store cheapies are not reinforced and can fall apart.
When we moved from CT to CA the relocation company hired a professional company. We still cleared everything out.
The question is, Isn't there a Shop close to the Owner of that car? Very odd.
I kind of want to hear the full "car shipper" song.
I can see the exterior door moldings are up on backwards on the front doors.
I think its pretty safe to say you need to start thinking about a 1 million subscribers video Wizard, look forward to seeing it :)
Mrs Wizard, there may have been another storage compartment under the middle front seat.
That scam is super-common with home movers, too.
Always throw an airtag in the vehicle if shipping it. Maybe even 2
This truck is in REALLY good condition!! 👍👍
Mr and Mrs Ox u guys are amazing keep up the good work
Only thing that sucks about the 3rd gen dodge ram 1500 2500 3500 ect all the frames rot out from the inside passanger side between both doors they rot out on the inside of the frame
After shipping it’s probably cheaper to find a different truck. It’s a thing not a family member 🤷♂️🤭🤣
