The book provides clear illustrations ruclips.net/user/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO diagrams that cover many of the essential topics. The projects at the end of the book are valuable for enhancing your skills and creating your own furniture. A digital platform linked to the book that could offer the plans for other woodworking projects with the cut sheets would have been a nice addition, but overall, the book is excellent.

This is wonderful work, seeing all the different ways - both efficient & aesthetic - that wood can be assembled together. I love watching Japanese Miyadaiku (宮大工) / Sukiyadaiku (数奇屋大工) carpenters assembling things with their incredibly complex & precise-fitting joints - it's mesmerising...
    ~ ~ ~
As for IKEA, if you have a small budget, or are just starting out, you really can't go wrong. I've got about 24 IKEA "Billy" tall bookcases (plus extra shelves) that I've bought over the years, as well as an inclined drawing desk I've been comfortably using for over 30 years. Apart from the cost & aesthetics, what I like best about IKEA furniture is it's capacity to be assembled & then disassembled for repair, or transport.
(Though it's understandable when IKEA abruptly drops a colour/pattern/wood veneer/etc. from their range, it still bugs me. It makes it difficult to match up new furnishings to old - especially if you're working on a long-term project.)

In my first and only year of wood shop, the big project my teacher made us do was painting a board, driving nails into it to make a shape, and then threading strings through the nails into animal patterns. Not even a bird house. Granted it was actually only 1/3 of a school year before I rotated to other art classes, but still. I would have adored wood working if we did things like this instead.

Hahahaha sounds like my joinery course! I paid £1500 to learn what I did at primary school! I was a mature student. Unfortunately these days it’s all about ticking boxes rather than actually learning! I still love wood and am teaching myself. I now make simple furniture for myself and my friends and put my heart and soul into every piece.

I learned a few things in school to give me the drive to think for my self. The things I was learning was machine shop and that was fun and interesting. However everything I learned from wood working is all self taught until I jumped on RUclips. Seeing things like this video is highly interesting. However sometimes I wander how effective one of these joints are. Also it bugs me seeing a ton of wood waste. If a person can do great cuts. To fit in a piece to glue then cut off about as much material as they glue in extremely irritates me. Why not have cut out the right size.

Totally agree. The authentic wood working sounds are beautiful themselves, and then the video producer takes the risk that a certain number of folks won't like the music, or thinks it's corny...which it was in this video.
It's just after and better all round to use the native sounds of the tools themselves working on the wood, which is really beautiful and pleasing to hear.

Such a beautiful job on that show and here. Very satisfying to watch.
