Kate Bush is one of the most gifted, unique artists the UK has ever produced. There are no words to describe how special she is.

Nothing prepares you for the video of "This Woman's Work" (1989). The song was originally written for the John Hughes movie "She's Having a Baby' to match some footage that had already been filmed, in which the hero of the movie is confronted by the possible death of his wife and unborn baby, and realizes that he has to finally grow up. Hughes had sent his Music Director, Tarquin Gotch to liaise with Kate Bush in order to get her to do the song. Gotch would later say that when Hughes finally heard the song for the first time he just said, 'Oh my God, that's brilliant' and wanted to extend the scene in order to use the entire song.
The official video for the song replaces the father/wife/baby scenario to a more general, life threatening crisis for the woman. The video itself was directed by Kate Bush who also wrote the song, played it, and did all the vocals on it. I think it is worth while comparing some elements of this video to the famous 2002 Johnny Cash 'Hurt' video. In 'Hurt' the climax is reached by way of a scene at a dining table where a meal has been laid out, only for the wife to be taken away, and for Johnny Cash to be left to turn down the lid of the piano at the end.
For me personally, this is one of Kate Bush's most effective videos ("Army Dreamers" is also very effective - and is very current today, having undergone a significant rise in Spotify streams over recent weeks, rising from a few thousand per day to around 1/2 a million per day in the last few weeks), and to me it really is a perfect combination of song, vocal and video.

Kate is a magical artist often overlooked because she shuns fame. Another of her songs about loss is "Moments of Pleasure". She revisited it again in "A Coral Room". Like I said magical. Thanks for the reaction and sorry for your losses.

Another brilliant song about loss is the title track to her album “the kick inside”, a bit taboo, but nevertheless heartbreaking!

Until "Running Up That Hill" played a key role in the last series of Stranger Things and as a result became a worldwide smash hit, in America Kate Bush was considered to be something of cult artist.
However, she was very well known outside of America. Due to so many people encountering Kate for the 1st time, I created some notes, one of which was a quick introduction to Kate Bush, which I include below...
    ====
A quick background summary of Kate Bush, Kate started writing songs at about 11 years old, adding more complex lyrics from 13 onwards. By her late teens she had written about two hundred,, the family made demo recordings of about fifty of them, in an attempt to attract the attention of record companies without any success. Until a friend of family passed the demos to David Gilmour (guitarist for Pink Floyd), he was interested and ultimately paid for time at studio with session musicians to make professional recordings of three songs from Kate extensive catalogue which he selected. It was those professional recordings that he passed onto EMI executives when he was asked about new talents - when EMI listened they wanted to sign Kate up immediately, but they had to wait until she had left school, Kate signed for EMI when she was 16 years old.
EMI paid Kate a retainer which she used to improve her piano playing, voice lessons and also dance & mime lessons from Lindsay Kemp (who had also taught David Bowie to dance). Kate also fronted a pub band that one of her brothers had put together. Eventually EMI called Kate back to work on her debut album "The Kick Inside" although two songs were taken from the earlier professional recordings that David Gilmour had paid for - notably one of them was written when she was just 13 years old and is regarded to the one that convinced EMI to sign Kate..
Kate's debut single "Wuthering Heights" was released in January 1978 and it was so different to everything else in the singles chart and became a massive worldwide hit, reaching number 1 in a number of countries around the world and charting highly in others. When it got to number 1 in the UK, Kate became the first female artist to have a self written song reach number one, this was the 1st of numerous records and milestones that Kate has set in the UK and album charts.
NOTE: The chart performance of "Wuthering Heights" was surpassed in 2022 due to the inclusion of Kate's 1985 single "Running Up That Hill" into the series "Stranger Things". RUTH became an ever greater worldwide hit and at one point was the most streamed song world-wide.
When "The Kick Inside" was released later in 1978, it sold a million copies in the UK and reached number three in the album chart.
Kate is multi-talented a singer/songwriter, musician, dancer, record producer, video producer and director. Kate was also very heavily involved in the staging of both of her concert tours - 1979 "Tour Of Life" and the 2014 concert residency "Before The Dawn". Kate has inspired/influenced countless numbers of artists/musicians who followed her, she is considered to be a musical icon and a pioneer.
Kate was credited as a co-producer on her third album "Never For Ever" and was the sole producer on her fourth album "The Dreaming" and every one of her subsequent studio albums.
If you're interested in listening to other songs by Kate Bush, I and many other Kate Bush fans will be happy to provide suggestions to you.

I know you probably know this, but your view of the world, as it says in your introduction, is not your own. I'll explain:
The parameters within which our whole spectrum of understanding of the world & reality is comprehended, understood & formulated, in our mind, is largely dictated by the culture or society we are part of.
This, in turn, influences our thoughts, opinions, views, morals, principles, attitudes, and actions. The things that we accept in life or accept as just part of life are the result of cultural conditioning or culturally laid down models of behaviour. We need to transcend these modes of thinking in order to change the world we live in.
In a world of cultural conditioning it's very hard to find people that are willing to take the time to think about life, that feel the need to understand the real purpose & meaning of our lives, most go their whole lives without that spark of interest or need for a deeper connection with life, largely because society dictates that these questions are not that important. So when you ask most people what the purpose of life is they won't tell you what they have concluded through questioning & searching. In most cases they'll simply tell you they don't know or haven't given it much thought, or they will tell you what someone else said, or what their friends say or what their family says - basically what society says, because those friends & family are influenced by the same parameters of thinking.
The extent to which we are influenced by our cultural conditioning is immense, it shapes our internal understanding of how to relate to ourselves & to life, of what life is, what its meanings are & what its values are.
Culture is the programme you run on, the programme which all of your thoughts & beliefs are formed from & filtered through and it's not until you realise this that you are able to step outside of it and begin to see things from a different perspective. To transcend culture is to see beyond our internal conditioning of said culture, of its language, concepts & context, its Images, symbols & learned emotional responses to these stimuli that drive our internal dialogue, attitude; our character - our learned behaviour of everything that's important and has meaning, what's truth and what's not, what's real or imagination, in our hearts & in our minds.
Culture is the pre-programmed set of blueprints from which our internal relationship with reality is caged and like the phoenix rising from the ashes of the old, one must understand this to be born again in mind, into a new paradigm of thought.
Love your reaction to this. Kate has been a favourite artist of mine since I was little. I have some rare Kate stuff on my channel. Peace.

Damn Johnnie, for that to come from a solid Christian is dazzling. "We all have two lives and the second one begins when you realize you only have one." Absolutely brilliant!
If we all lived as if this were our last chance to make an impact, seems like we'd be better humans. Heaven or hell may be waiting, but let's live this life as if it weren't a test. Let's live it as if every moment mattered more than that eternal which blocks us from making a difference now.
    I'll tell you brother, I'm a fan!
