IBEC Chapter 1: Introduction

Welcome to IBEC, the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia. A research institute created ten years ago by the Government of Catalonia, the University of Barcelona and the Technical University of Catalonia, IBEC is a member of the Catalan network of CERCA centres, and aspires to be one of the major players in the bioengineering at a global level.
Receiving a prestigious Severo Ochoa Excellence Award from Spain’s ministry in charge of research in 2015 was a huge milestone for IBEC, one of the youngest centers to achieve the accolade. It’s the ultimate confirmation of a success story that started only a few years ago, and a recognition of IBEC’s excellence in research, training, outreach and technology transfer.
