A grubgrub lives 150 days and will crank out a lot of eggs over it's lifetime. Each egg = 4800 meat kcals when sent to a drowning chamber. (Yes 4800 for the wormling form too.) Dead easy to automate and all that bbq is nice bonus atop the faster crop growth and mud production.
Sulfur geysers make more than enough sulfur for 1 farm. Possibly as many as 4 but I have 4 wild planted farms 72 (possibly only 70) tiles of area 4 high and try to keep the grub grubs down to 2 per farm since they seem to get crowded when they hit 4. You need the sucrose for cooking the grub fruit preserve specifically. I believe you need to preserve to make stuffed berries as well. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
it depends on if its already grubfruit or still in the spindily (pre-rubbed state). in either case, stuffed berries come from bristle blossoms, i think youre talking about the mixed berry pie, which uses the raw grubfruit, not the one perserved with sugar.
What about starvation ranching? I read somewhere that one or both of the variant can lay two eggs even when they don't ever get fed? I'm testing it rn, but will take a while
so its kinda weird. i believe its something like in theory the grubgrub egg and 2nd sweetle egg is possible but its really close to only being theoretical. the sweetle will be able to starvation ranch and get 1 egg out of it for a loop. the 2nd egg and the grubgrub 1st egg is possible in theory. you need 100% grooming/brush uptime over the course of 8-9 cycles and only then you get the egg right before it starves to death. the cut off is tied to how long the critter has to move/respond to the rancher at the grooming station and your dupes running to the grooming station. you have around 80? seconds total over its lifespan. if you go over, you dont get an egg. so, due to the dupes only heading towards the grooming station after the buff wears off, and because of dupe travel, you typically dont get it. so because of that, if your sweetle lays a grubgrub egg, it ends the loop. technically meaning this isnt a reliable source
kind of, theres a few issues with something like that depending on how you build it. with a raw design from how you described, you run into the issue of a dupe picking up the sulfur that gets dropped from the dispenser back into said dispenser. its just that it cost power and automation, which can be bypassed by just using the critter feeder
@@2LegitCity i thought i couldn't build a grooming station inside a room with farm tiles but it turns out the rooms was just to big. i was looking for a way to farm and ranch in the same room.
@@infoseeker329 oh, gotcha! plantar boxes are a good option to look at. virtually the same as farm tiles outside of not being able to grow certain plants
very interesting, as I didn't find a sulfur geyser on any of my 2 first planetoid, I really need my sour gas boiler to run... lol i'm stuck mid game lol
These critters might be my favorite part of the Spaced Out DLC
This is by far the best tutorial on the subject
kind words, thank you
Love this walk through. Hit on everything I've learned about them and a couple I didn't. Much appreciated!
i hope i covered everything about em

they need to make grubgrubs into like mounts dupes can ride

I have done this without knowing I was doing it before I knew they needed sulfur or sucrose.
Could I use one of then automatic dispenser things on a timer to feed them once a day

you could always just wild ranch them, while taming another critter for meat. that way you can benefit from the rubs and tendings!
