    Hi everyone, quick update as per the October 2023 Quality of Life Update, Slicksters can now be wrangled by dupes.

      Only thing is for some reason they almost always phase inside a wall or floor every time I do that so I just move instead of wrangle to prevent this

      Their ranch design is the easiest, too:
      1) You only collect eggs, so your autosweepers and conveyor loaders consume less power.
      2) Their food transports itself.
      3) Their temperature range and atmosphere are comfortable for dupes.
      3) Unlike dupes, their population is easy to control, so you can produce extra oxygen without worrying about the system failure and get hydrogen in the process.
      P.S. As for water, having lots of it in ONI is OP. XD

    Personally, I wouldn't underestimate Longhair Slicksters. I had the entire colony sustained by water geysers, cool steam vents, and solar panels. Coal, natural gas, and petroleum were cut to fight "Climate Change." XD
    Longhair Slicksters have the simplest ranch design since they don't produce any waste outside of the eggshells, while oxygen don't require any transportation inside of your core base and it's production is your top priority anyways, so you might as well produce some more while harvesting hydrogen for power.

    • @FearlessSon
      @FearlessSon Год назад +7

      Huh, I never thought of using longhair slicksters to intentionally delete excess oxygen when you're trying to create hydrogen for power if you've got a sustainable water surplus. Good idea. Probably a good way to get the Super Sustainable achievement too.

      unnecessarily, just use a submerged spom setup and the electrolyzer will run flat out 100%... as long as you can feed it water. i usually run 4 submerged electrolyzer's in a spom and can power my whole base with just water. and with this you will have excess o2 and hydrogen storage built in, and can easily feed the liquid hydrogen/O2 cooler to make rocket fuel..it hits like 4 birds with 1 rock.

    I really wish longhair slicksters did something other than just add decor. I'd like it if instead of adding 50 decor they could reduce the negative decor of a room by like 100 or something. That way they'd be in industrial areas like the other slicksters. Or they could've produced small amounts of ethanol if there's floral scent in the oxygen they consume.
    They really feel like a missed opportunity, just like smooth hatches.

    I've been working on my rocketry program and built a 1kg/s liquid hydrogen generator and am now left with the problem that I'm also producing nearly 8kg/s of oxygen. Since I only need 250g/s of liquid oxygen and about 3kg/s for my dupes, I'm left with 4.75kg/s and nothing to do with it, but I could feed 95 longhair slicksters, basically for free. Or basically double the amount of barbecue that my base of 30 dupes needs.

    I used to think longhair slicksters were a punishment for breeding slickers at room temperature. However after I made my first hydra spom with 2 electrolyzers, I now have WAY too much oxygen in my base (my dupes are getting popped eardrums just being in the base due to having so much oxygen, ironically they're safer from that outside the living areas due to atmo suits) and I'm seriously considering just breeding these. Doesn't help I'm using the 2 tile water trick to make the gas vent not over pressure so it's constantly spewing oxygen.
    Of course I could just box off the oxygen since I'm already using the infinite pressure gas vent, but where's the fun in that.

    • @GCFungus
      @GCFungus  Год назад

      I covered those in the Industrial brick Tutorial Bite, but hot bricks often need extra heating to turn any water or polluted water into steam. The aquetuner and tricked out tepidizer are the two main ways to heat, which I covered in the Heating Tutorial Bite.

    Ok, i am not against these adorable float balls, but I feel like for how useful they can be, they should be nerfed. They are floating carpets with a cute smile that consumes gas, so in my opinion they should give less meat. I feel like this can be a decent nerf that won't ruin base sustainability.

    What's going on with the incubator setup? Looks like complicated automation

    • @FearlessSon
      @FearlessSon Год назад +5

      If I'm not mistaken, the pressure plate beneath each incubator triggers a delayed power-down of the incubator. What speeds egg maturation is when ranching dupes come and fondle the incubator, which they only do when it's powered, but it doesn't need that power to *sustain* the growth, just to renew the touch. So you can shut off incubators and turn them back on the next cycle to save power without slowing growth.

    • @AlannaStarcrossed
      @AlannaStarcrossed Год назад

      @@FearlessSon oh interesting, I've always done it just with timers but I can see how this is more robust. I tend to just overbuild though so if there's some inefficiency it just evens out

    • @GCFungus
      @GCFungus  Год назад +3

      Yep, it's a very efficient way to power the incubators, but a simple timer sensor with 600s off is also not a bad approach. I covered both in the main Critters Tutorial Bite, hence why I assume it to be understood here and in the Tutorial Bites for the other critters.
