In 2024 when buying new golf clubs we are always looking for the best budget golf clubs, the best forgiving golf clubs, and even the best CHEAP forgiving golf clubs. But in a world where the best mid handicap golf clubs are generally by companies like Taylor made, Ping and Callaway what about if we try a golf club that is brand new but also mega cheap and I think the most forgiving golf club of 2024, and even better yet, potentially the best forgiving driver of 2024, best budget driver of 2024 and best high handicap driver of 2024!?
Introducing the new 2024 Macgregor Golf Clubs.
The price of this driver is NOT absurd. The absurd prices are attached to the new drivers that are on shelves globally at pro shops, sporting good stores, and even second hand re-sellers! Drivers should be $200 and lower, Iron sets should be under $300, and I don't even want to talk about putter prices. Completely pricing out an entire class of people.
Golf club companies have created a ridiculous perception to the value. Drivers are way over priced. So are shafts. Irons from companies like Takomo and Maltby are extremely good for their value.
When I play with rando people who’ve been sold on a $4000 kitandkaboodle set, and play average like me, I just shake my head.
Facts, that’s why I let other people pay the $600+ and then they use it once and sell it. I just got a QI10 for $300, dude played one round with it
Thats the point though. Clubs are status symbols. Something for people with money to spend their money on and flex at the course. Its a skill based game, clubs make almost zero difference. Watch these guys like bryson hit a kids junior 7 iron over 200 yards.Those clubs are $100 for the entire set lol.

Exactly...it takes 1/8 of the cost to make them but they make triple profit in sales
I really appreciate you finding and reviewing good value golf clubs. I’m just getting back back into golf. I recently spent time in a Dicks Sporting Goods store. The price of new golf clubs was shockingly high. I’ll be regrippping my old Callaways.

BTW I bought the MacGregor V Max driving iron (£64) and it's a beauty.
I ruptured my bicep last year so our Pro recommended a driver with a lighter shaft. Bought a Tour Edge C522 Hot Launch with a 50 gram shaft and haven't looked back. Bought it for £100.
This reminds me of the Callaway Diablo Driver.
MacGregor is a historically great name in golf. Happy to see some new equipment at a great price point. Unfortunately, EGO will get in the way for most people.

Put an over priced Malbon head cover on it and all the knobs will be none the wiser!

I recommend going used. I got my Ping G 3 wood for a very good price with a great shaft on 2nd swing, I hit it very well off the deck.

One of my favorite drivers (over a 30 yr. period) was the Macgregor V-Foil Eye-O-Matic. Sounded like a cannon & I could hit it a mile! Are you going to test this driver in a stiff flex??
These are not yet available in the US yet, I hope they are as it looks like the perfect club for the beginner or high handicapper looking to buy a good club at a reasonable price. The new clubs that MacGregor are offering really work, like bought just a set of heads of the hybrid/irons and shafted them with KBS graphite and got a great set that works setup for me at a price that works even better. Thanks James for another video that helps us find better options!

I love your reviews but saying that they are not really true reviews for a high handicap player. Your swing and experience could make any club look good. You should have high handicap players review with you. Just my opinion

The thing is the average golfer has nowhere near your swing speed. Their difference from this club to the name brands won’t be nearly as severe as with you and you haven’t lost much with it.
I only watched this for the entertainment aspect, being a golf nerd this stuff is fun to watch. I enjoy the channel, with that being said, white tees blow!! I use wood tees only, no scuff marks!
Never buy the latest model. Wait 12 months and get it on sale for 30-50% less.
My first "real" set of clubs were MacGregor MT irons and Eye o matic woods. I'm so happy to se MacGregor back in the game. I'm looking for a new driver and 3 wood. I'll certainly look at these. I just can't pay $500-$600 for a driver. Half of that is marketing budget to pay the pro's.

Used to game MacGregor V-foil driver and woods. Then went to MacTecs. Still play the MacTec irons. Always been one of the best values in golf.
I would certainly consider this driver, as a Senior golfer, it looks much easier to keep the ball in the fairway. That's what I look for today.

MacGregor and Ram have been putting out some good stuff lately. I’m using the Ram FX77 irons and MacGregor Mactec woods and love them.
Golf clubs will go the way of cycling where prices are now falling and the industry is hurting because the road the Covid inflation wave and now the 24’ prices are lower than 23’ we just need to stop BUYING for a year or 2!

My first set was a left handed set of McGreggor battle sticks.
Served me well until I was ready for a better set.

Seems that when you get a driver that is not in your spec or not one of the big names, you try harder to stick to the fundamentals of your swing.
Quite often people struggle to put 2 + 2 together. They see a footballer earning £300k a week yet seem puzzled by how their season ticket has gone up! Doh I wonder why?? Golf is no different!! Players on tour earning millions per year in endorsements and sponsorship alone, yet the mind goes blank as to why clubs/drivers keep going up and up in price year after year...despite having increased mass produced volume efficiencies, using the latest mass production machinery and being designed by an unpaid, no pension/benefits 'AI' computer.....hence minimising human costs/wages. This MacGregor club is a reflection of the true manufacturing cost of a modern driver, with a more reasonable profit margin and without you and me paying the Sponsorship of touring pro's. Ok, the bigger brand quality, shafts and materials may or may not be better?.....but are they 4x the cost during manufacture? Or is the average Joe being simply being ripped off by the other big name...big style!! Buy second hand from reputable suppliers.....3 or 4 years old is more than good enough for the average player.

The driver is a nice opening to new fellow golfers,it obviously impressed you in a round about way,but is it quality if it marks up with tees?? I see that as a let down in design& quality..
The responses below clearly note that these are not and will not be for the US and are not even on Macgregors website .So they should have told him this and he should have related that to us. So from a practical point of view this review is practically worthless to us in the US. Sorry but thats the truth.
You should do a comparison comparing the MacGregor with used Big Brand drivers that you can actually buy for $150. You probably have to go back at least 6 or 7 years or longer to even find a used one for that. Longer than that for Ping. I also wish you would review Maltby clubs. I think a lot of people would like to see a comparo of Maltby vs Big Brand. I've seen another reviewer call the Maltby TS3 forged irons as "God Tier" clubs and he had a borrowed set with stock steel shafts. 5-GW with their stock shafts is currently a mind bogglingly cheap $454.99 dollars, not pounds for FORGED irons. They are forged game improvement clubs, progressive cavity back, progressive length. You can even order up a test club and if you like it, buy the rest of the "pak" later. They will adjust the length, loft and lie angles to whatever you want and build them for NO CHARGE. If they are as good as the other reviewer claims, and taking my EGO out of it, this would be a no-brainer for a lot of people, myself included.
Wishon Also deserves a shoutout on this too for mid range fitted sets if you can find somone who is a fitter.

Golf prices have gotten so far off base its sad! Nobody should justify paying 800 900 1000 for irons. I just bought a brand new set of maltby ts3 that were hit one time for 400 on ebay and they are by far the best forged irons i have ever hit most forgiving i mean forgiving forgiving! And long with non jack lofts 7 iron is 32 degrees very little offeset. Not 26 degree 5 iron stamped 7.

James, I was interested when I could not find the V-Max line of clubs from MacGregor available in the US? I, contacted MacGregor and I found out that these would not be for sale in the states. That was all the information that I could get.

Center of the club face is still brand new lol! It would be awesome for club companies to come in and offer great values for comparable clubs. Club prices are just way out of touch with what normal people can afford.
See I thought the driver sounded tinny off the face. Usually l don’t love that sound but I liked the sound of this driver. I will say there is nothing better than taking others money with a $130 driver love that.
When you talk about how a less expensive club compares with a "top line" club it would be nice to see a few competitive shots, indoors and on the course. I find it tough to calibrate just how much I would be giving up in performance without quantitative data. That said it is really nice to see these clubs brought out into the open.
