    I so wish they had this song in the movie. It's such a powerful song and shows how the Beast has suffered over the years.

      No, I'm glad they didn't because the actor they got for the beast this time couldn't hit notes like this, they knew better. Apparently not enough to not do a remake, but, you know, Disney.

    Isn't it amazing that even though this song was initially sung by a specific fictional character, some of us can imagine other fictional characters singing it, too? I, myself, am doing a rewrite of A Christmas Carol where Jacob Marley gets a better life... And I personally believe this song fits my version of him perfectly.

    Am I the only one, but I get the impression he's saying he can't fall in love with her- as in, she's the perfect woman for him to love, and his only chance of freedom, but he just doesn't love her. That's the way it reads to me, anyway.

    • @rebeccaliew2247
      @rebeccaliew2247 10 лет назад +48

      It is not about he doesn't love her. He does, but he knew that she deserves a better man. This song is about a 'beastly ugly' man getting to know love for the first time & reviving his hope for redemption... but his pessimism question that hope, knowing that his imperfections was going to be the divisive wedge between him and her.

      its 2 yrs ago I know but, I think what he's saying here is that the situation is hopeless because he's convinced that he's incapable of loving anyone. he sees no good in himself and feels he's beyond hope/loving/saving.

    • @missdesertrose183
      @missdesertrose183 6 лет назад +6

      The way I hear it is that he lives her beyond compare, but he believes she won't return the feelings because one, she's in captivity technically and second, because he's and ugly beast and shes the most perfect girl. But when he releases her he realized that he should have loved her and now that she's gone, he wants the world to be done with him. Hence the FABULOUS note at the end.

    I did this for my end-of-year solo in Vocal Music class one year...I was so nervous!! Especially with that damn high F at the end...I distinctly remember almost chickening out and transposing the song down, but there wasn't time, so I just did it as written. Turns out I shouldn't have worried...I had to warm up more than usual, but when I got going...just wow. I wish I'd taped it, but I didn't.

      +c0mf0rta61ynum6 I don't think he's gonna add it because he stated quite clearly that this new film won't have any songs from the Broadway show. however, if the film is a success, I shall start writing a live action remake of Beauty And the beast the enchanted Christmas and then use this song.

  • @marvinmelhorn5843
    @marvinmelhorn5843 10 лет назад +2

    Andy's Mad House, why isn't it a Disney song? Tim Rice merely wrote the lyrics. Alan Menken (who also wrote the music for LITTLE MERMAID, ALADDIN, POCAHONTAS, HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, HERCULES, ENCHANTED) was the composer. Rice and Menken were both hired by Disney to write more songs for the Broadway version. Since Menken's original partner for MERMAID and BEAUTY (lyricist Howard Ashman) had died, he asked Rice to team up with him again, since they'd worked together on ALADDIN when Rice took over for Ashman after he'd passed away.
    Along with the songs from the movie -- "Belle," "Belle (Reprise)," "Gaston," "Gaston (Reprise)," "Be Our Guest," "Something There," "Beauty and the Beast," "The Mob Song" -- Rice and Menken wrote new ones for the stage show -- "No Matter What," "No Matter What (Reprise)," "Me," "Home," "Home (Reprise)," "How Long Must This Go On?", "If I Can't Love Her," "Maison de Lunes," "If I Can't Love Her (Reprise).
    Furthermore, Julian Wright, "Human Again" was intended for the film, but was cut, due to the complications it made on the film's timeline. It was repurposed for the Broadway play. Also, "A Change In Me" was added in 1998. four years after the musical's Broadway debut, when Toni Braxton joined the show. It was specifically written for her since she complained that Belle doesn't have much to sing after "Something There" early in Act II and felt she needed an 11 o'clock number, as they say in the theater. The 11 o'clock number is a song in a musical placed near the end of the second act, before the plot's loose ends are tied up. The song usually represents an emotional turning point or revelation for the main character and is almost always the last number in the show that isn't a reprise of an earlier song or the absolute final song.. I'm glad Braxton insisted on it because "A Change In Me" is not only a lovely song, but it also gives Belle a moment to reflect. In other words, Belle also has a transformation, but hers is mentally while the Beast's is physical.
    At any rate, all the songs from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman or Alan Menken and Tim Rice) are Disney property and thus Disney songs.

    I kind of get why the song was taken out, it's a great song but it kind of makes me feel like the lyrics are saying that belle is a prize that he has to win rather than seeing her as her own person. Like with the line "how I could have loved her and *make* her love me too, if I cant love her then who?"

    • @gamer9smith
      @gamer9smith Год назад +1

      I kinda get what you mean but I think it’s pretty clear based on the entire rest of the song that he means “get to a place where I’m worthy of her love and that she’d love me” that just doesn’t flow as good lyrically. Also that’s literally one line so I still don’t think it should’ve been removed.
