Even in 1962, even when she wasn't dedicated to singing as she was before, even when the voice was less under control than before, she comes on stage and TEACHES everybody what music is about, what drama is about, what singing is about, what Verdi is about.... Unique.
There's no secret her voice here is not what it used to be. Upper notes are shrill and overall not well supported (aside from her chest tones that are still powerful and put many modern mezzos to shame).
But the dramatic intensity she brings in and, above all, how she moves exactly to the music! Her drama and stage presence is so interlinked to her innate understanding of the music, and that makes her performance a total art.
Maria......quanto manchi al TEATRO
Beyond the fact that it is an absolutely brilliant version, Callas literally leaves the blood on the stage, until the final greeting, the bow to the orchestra, it is absolute genius.
Absolutely!!

Fantastic! She forgets some of the words though. Nice to see a human moment from an artistic titan
Titan 💯
I'm never really sure. Sometimes changes are have.
Absolutely extraordinary. Late in her career yet the voice is remarkable, Maria’s middle range totally incomparable. It’s true, we will not hear her like again, that’s for certain.
She always touches the heart. Pure art!
Irreplaceable... 20th century is empty without la Divina
She absolutely LIVES the role through the music.
...la DIVINA :)))
Toujours aussi grande et magnifique musicienne et tragédienne , malgré l'usure de sa voix dans ces années là .C'est toujours admirable malgré tout .

I love the lower and middle register of Callas, it's just like no other!!! I think it's amazing that she's so versatile as a soprano and she was able to make all the roles she sang her own to escape the realities of her life, but I think she is more naturally a mezzo, she just sounds more natural in the lower range and has tonnes of colour over the dynamics, I don't know why she didn't record more as a mezzo in the complete roles. I love her Juliard master classes when she was teaching Amneris in Aida and a mezzo aria from Trovatore, she really showed emphasis about the areas of the text and demonstrated with such conviction what sort of emotion that the composer is portraying.
Her voice when she's speaking sort of reveals itself ... it does have range but it's naturally placed lower.
I love her chest voice. I prefer her mezzo arias. But I love her high notes in un ballo in maschera ma dallorida stella Divulsa, Morro ma prima grazia, merce diletta and l'altra notte fondo al ma.
Her smaller frame wasn't supporting her sound compared to earlier years. Yet her drama and muscianship are unmatched, and she still sounds good.
Callas, siempre callas!!!!
Memorabile memorabile
Thank you so much for share that amazing vídeo!
Maria Callas did a fantastic presentation. A true Diva. 😃👏🏾
Agreed! Thank you for joining us!
Divina
Bravaaaaaaa!!!
Fantastic, though I can’t help but feel that the momentum was stilted somewhat in the Cabaletta ‘O ciel! E Carlo!’,
What a perfection ! DIVINA! Bravissima! 💯💯💯💯💯❤️
This is a real Woman right here… wow..
LA divina ❤
Divina !👏👏👏👏👏💔
O don fatale, o don crudel
che in suo furor mi fece il ciel!
Tu che ci fai sì vane, altere,
ti maledico, ti maledico,o mia beltà !
Versar, versar sol posso il pianto,
speme non ho, soffrir dovrò!
Il mio delitto è orribil tanto
che cancellar mai nol potrò!
Ti maledico,ti maledico o mia beltà ,
O mia Regina, io t'immolai
al folle error di questo cor.
Solo in un chiostro al mondo omai
dovrò celar il mio dolor!
Ohimè! Ohimè! O mia Regina,
Oh ciel! E Carlo! a morte domani,
gran Dio! a morte andar
Ah, un dì mi resta,
la speme mi arride, ah,
sia benedetto il ciel! Lo salverò!
Un dì mi resta, ah, sia benedetto
il ciel! Ah! lo salverò!
Her low register is the most haunting and deep ive heard
I believe that the versatility of Callas' voice, added to the incredible technique developed by Elvira de Hidalgo, would allow Callas to sing some mezzo roles in a wonderful way. These would be: Azucena, Eboli, Princesa de Bouillon, Dalilah, Carmen (although she recorded, I mean singing on stage), Leonora, Joan of Arc, among others...
❤️❤️❤️

Can anyone explain the change to the upper registry?
why nobody took into consideration a Don Carlo with Renata Tebaldi as Elisabetta and Maria Callas as Eboli?
Callas refused to be seconda Donna.
Se non si è veri mezzosoprani meglio lasciare stare; sotto non ha il suono necessario
Do a better job then and only then you can criticize Maria Callas.
