Stephen's Story - When life gives you cancer

- The last couple of days have been pretty surreal. Earlier on this week my disease took a pretty sharp turn for the worse, but thankfully I am still here. The reach and impact my story has had on people since then has just been unimaginable and very humbling.
I've always enjoyed helping others, and after being in discussions with Make A Wish foundation for a while, decided I wanted my wish with them to be to "spread my story and positivity with as many people as possible". To make this happen, we made this film. I thoroughly hope you enjoy the video, and hope you can help out by sharing it with as many people as possible!
I am still pretty weak at the moment so don't have the energy to write much. If you're completely new to #stephensstory the quickest way to get up to speed with things would probably be to visit stephensstory and read the last few updates. You can also visit www.stephensstory.co.uk but this doesn't hold any accounts of the last few days.
Recently the fundraising total has surpassed over £2.3million for Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity who have helped me hugely these past few years and that will continue to help other young people with cancer like me in the future. To donate £5 to Teenage Cancer Trust just text STEPHEN to 70300 or alternatively you can donate at www.justgiving.....
Thank you!!
Stephen, if we could give you our time to make you live longer, you'd live forever. And you will, because we will never, ever forget you.
who can dislike this really?!?!
Who are those 84 social misfits who disliked this? His story is an inspiration, pure courage and a determination to help future cancer sufferers, not whining about his own plight. He may have had cancer but those 84 people who disliked this have something much worse, brain damage.
***** The hell's that supposed to mean
they missed the like button, they're close
The people who thumbed this down ought to be ashamed of themselves!
Yer you tell them
Like I said 8443CE. Warp-Craft perfected.
Yeah and it still means nothing
This lad is a real inspiration. I'm not a religious person and I'm not a believer of "heaven", but who knows what happens next. If there is a "higher being" then surely this young man will have another go. Respect buddy.
Happy birthday, Stephen. An absolute legend.
A true Legend.
RIP :(
Don't worry he is finally in peace and up in heaven plus he left a legacy on earth and he was a great man

xxabby92 What did she say?
Guys don't mind the trolls, go enjoy your day like Stephen and many others would have wanted us to x

17 people dislike this!? What's wrong with this world!!??
Stephen you're a true inspiration. A true hero in your own right and following your story has given me motivation in my own. Something no one has managed to do prior! And I haven't even met you....
You keep fighting. The world is a much better place with you in it :) x
even more now :(
Happy Birthday Stephen. Gone but not forgotten ❤
Rest in Peace Stephen, thank you for reminding us not to take life for granted. You are an absolute gem of a guy!
R.I.P Stephen, you did more with your short life than most people would dream of !! Thinking of the brave Family
Some people live a long time and die without leaving anything behind, which is sad. Stephen you have only been on this earth a short time but you & your legacy with live on. Rest now, you will never be forgotten. You are a very special man
He is an angel! He has created something so good from something so bad. He has brought good out in a lot of people and helped so many with his story. You sir are a legend. Forget the rich and famous, we could all learn from this man. Just when you think the world is all bad, remember Stephen Sutton.
I have mursed many people with cancer through various stages of this horrible disease. This young man has inspired me. I wish I could have had the chance to meet him in person. Let us all hope that his final journey can be peaceful and pain free. I feel his memory will live on in the rest of us for many years to come.
Dee x
i hate seeing stories about him on the news where they refer to him as a "cancer victim". he was so much more than his cancer, he was a person, the cancer never mattered to him. his whole legacy was not letting the cancer define him, but even in the news after his death, people are still putting that word on him. to call him a victim is an insult. stephen was a winner.
The few people who have disliked this could never dream of being such an inspiration to so many thousands of people. Stephen you're a legend.
*That has to be the most inspiring, touching video I've watched.*
Every now and again someone comes along who, whether through or despite their own trials, manages to reaches far beyond what most people could ever achieve - Stephen, you're awesome mate.
Stephen if my son grows up to be anything like you I will be incredibly proud. Your parents must be so scared of losing you but so proud of everything you have done. You've done more just in the time since your diagnosis than most people achieve in a lifetime. You are a legend, sleep soundly knowing you've touched and inspired millions of us to do better, live better and smile more xx
Can't help but be blown away by this amazing young man's positivity and outlook on what remains of his life. Truly inspirational.
Your drive and passion has been passed on through millions of people and will continue to! You are a hero to the world. RIP Stephen xxx
dude , u seriously touched my heart ....... " I may have cancer , but cancer doesn't have me "...... so inspirational ....thank u so much !!!! keep fighting....u can beat it .!!
Still inspirational. Still relevant. Still Stephen. Hats off, Sir. Chapeau! I'm still donating to Teenage Cancer Trust in your memory.
An unforgettable young man. His life will have had more meaning than millions of other human lives that are 3, 4 or 5 times longer. Let's be guided and motivated by this shining star.
Seriously, who would 'dislike' this? This young mans bravery, zest for life and selflessness with his condition is inspirational.
Started watching this video thinking how unfair life is on some people.. got a bit upset, shed a few tears. Poor Stephen.. but then it hit me. It's not poor Stephen at all. He's living his life the best way he can and doing so much for others. I for one will take on board what he's said and try and make the best of my life.. although at nearly 44 I should have learnt that already. Cheers Stephen... Xx
RIP Stephen, such an inspiration. xxx
Such a brave guy, when death smiles at him he just smiles back, wish everyone was like Stephen

RIP Stephen if only everyone in the world could think like you did it would make the world a much better place. Gone but never forgotten.
Brilliant Stephen, thank you! Our daughter Michelle is also a Make-A-Wish (NJ) recipient, and we can't thank you enough for what you are doing to help this amazing organization and more people than you can possibly know with your heartfelt message.
This guy was a hero, knowing he was on borrowed time....yet no complaints, and still managed to smile.... Warrior spirit, theres a new star in the night sky tonite named Stephen,
Stephen your a Star and I have just had treatment for skin cancer and the good news is that the lump on my head was not skin Cancer.
One of my neighbours has Cancer so I went out and bought her some flowers and she was overwhelmed and it was great to see her smile.
Next week she goes into hospital to have treatment.
I would not have thought of doing this kind act if it had not been for your story.
Thanks mate for making me a better human being.
THE REV.
Once in a lifetime you get to film with someone who'll change your perspective on life. Stephen is that person. We feel humbled and privilidged to have worked with you and hope your story reaches far and wide, spreading your positivity and changing people's lives for the better. Truly awesome. x
Who can dislike this, Stephen you are an inspiration to all the young people today, you are amazing!!!
Wow! Stephen's done more in the last few years, than others do in a lifetime. I really hope that he's taught us all to do what makes us happy NOW, and to not take our health for granted
You make me smile Stephen. Keep it up. I understand when you say that cancer is a wake-up call. I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer almost two years ago. Life is a new adventure every day. We're still here and neither of us is ready to throw in the towel.
John
I cried today when I found out the news. It is truly remarkable how many people you have touched with your story, including me. The world needs more people like you.
Many people will go through life without making a positive contribution to the world. In your time you have made a positive impact to millions of people. You are a hero to millions of people right now and although I can't even begin to understand what your going through, I wish you all the best.
Stephen Sutton you are a legend.

Thank you, Stephen, for making a difference.
This man has shown what CAN be done in spite of illness, circumstances and debilitation. What could be done by able bodied, well and fortunate others? The mind boggles. May peace be with Stephen and strength with his family at this sad time. Fly with angels Stephen for you surely earned your wings!
He was an amazing role model and human being. R.I.P STEVEN 👍

This guy is an inspiration. Not only did he refuse to feel down about his situation (and no one would blame him if he did), he channels his positivity into helping others. He's truly someone to emulate.
I first heard about him when a Japanese friend told me about him. Apparently, they played a video (perhaps this video?) about his life on TV there. Go Stephen!
友達が紹介してくれて、ガンがあっても諦めなくて、他の人を手伝いました!本当に尊敬すべきな方と思います。日本のテレビも彼の人生を紹介したみたいです。
I second you on the "Go Stephen"
He is an inspiration to the rest of us. God Bless him.
Thumbs up to a remarkable & inspirational human being. RIP Stephen Sutton.

What a massive inspiration to everyone! A real hero!!!
Stephen is a legend he won the vInspired All Round Commitment to Volunteering Award 2014 and he gave a great acceptance speech. RIP Stephen your amazing.
You make me think so much about life, and in a positive way. You make me think about what I can do, how I can help others, If you can do it all with the situation you're in, why can't I? when I am in a much more healthier condition, You are an amazing bloke Stephen and I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks that.
A brave and selfless guy, one of the few people who made a difference, his vibration goes on
A true legend in his lifetime. May he go on for as long as he is able to.
An inspiration to many people xx

Aaaaaand, i'm crying. What great guy. What an inspiration. Stephen you have such a wonderful outlook after such a devastating diagnoses. We're all with you.
Stephen, you are AMAZING. The whole world is with you and sending you so much love xxx
I can not describe what a brave & truely selfless man you are. I too have been given cancer but i'm way older than you & lived so much mors but it really does chane yiur outlook, make you mors positive & appreciate everything you have. I have recently been given the all clear & discharged after 3yrs so have no idea of your pain, worries or heartache but i send so much love & best wishes. You have truely kicked cancers butt & made more people aware & considerate towards this disease especially younger people. One thing i do know is that somewhere you will save lives by all this fundcraising so in a round about sort of way you will be a doctor. My thoughts & prayers are with you...you are a true inspiration
I can't watch this video enough. He has changed so many lives for the better. simply amazing :)
RIP. Stephen you've not only become an icon in terms of defying the odds but you've inspired not only me but millions of people to respect the lives that they have and treat life as a gift. Even though you deserved more time, I think your spirit will always live on and be the source of motivation of people in the same situation as you. You are and always will be remembered.
You really are an inspirational young man, Stephen. I think your positive outlook on life should be commended. The 43 people who 'disliked' this should feel ashamed, just sickening!
Very sad news, you have earned your angel wings. God felt your pain and knew that there was no cure, so he took you home...You are such an inspirational human being. God bless you, R.I.P. Stephen.
Truly remarkable young man, every teenager should see this, inspirational, his parents and family must be so very proud of him, god bless, and long may he live xx
Thank you Stephen for reminding us all to make the most of every moment we live, for the truth is, none of us know how long our lives will be. You have been given a wake up call by having cancer, but any one of us could die at any time, and instead of taking that information and letting it make us paranoid or frightened, you have reminded us there is another way to go. Live every moment by filling it with fun, love and generosity.
I hope you have millions more moments to use to the full, because you use the moments to make a fabulous difference to everyone around you. THANK YOU!
Rest in peace Stephen, thankyou for inspiring me to treasure life, and to make the most of what I've got. There's another angel in the sky now. Xx
What a lovely person you are to share your story to help others. I hope people will learn from you and people in general learn from your humility and help for others. Take Care Stephen
Glad bless you Stephen. What a lasting legacy you leave us with, knowing you have helped so many others with cancer. You are a truly remarkable young man who gave so much in a short life. Long may you be remembered for your courage and charity work.
Sitting here sobbing and realising how lucky i am !! Sending lots of love and a HUGE hug Stephen xxx
Wow!wow!!wow!!! My dear Stephen, you're such a strong character,a very positive young man full of inspiration.I pray for you always and believe in one part of your heart that there is something called 'miracle'.God bless you.
May God rest her soul in peace and give strength to family members to bear this irreparable loss!
Rest in peace, Stephen. I discovered your facebook page just 30 minutes ago and I feel as though my life has changed, as dramatic as that sounds. "Cancer sucks, but life is great." You have indeed lived a great life; I think being only 19 years old and having figured out what you wanted out of life is proof of that. The validity of achieving your full potential rather than living as long as possible is what I really needed to hear right now... thank you.
If Stephen's family ever come to read this - I can't imagine what it's like to have a hole torn in the middle of your life like this. I'm so sorry that you had to go through losing Stephen to cancer at his age. If it offers any small crumb of comfort, though, it should be obvious from everything being said about him today that, as well as being a man of enormous bravery, he was an example of truly formidable proportions of the better angels of our nature as human beings. Stephen, and others like him, reaffirm my confidence that people - humans, members of this imperfect and bizarre species that we are all members of - can find it in themselves to be this good, can find it in themselves to muster such towering courage and warmth and positivity and all those other attributes that you saw so readily in him.
The word 'inspirational' was invented to describe people like him.
rest in peace buddy. you're an inspiration and now in a better place sleep well.
Stephen you are a hero, you are helping so many people with the money you have raised and you are inspiring so many people to live more fulfilling active lives.Like the rest of the UK i'm still praying for a miracle for you. xxxx
He's probably the first person to make my heart drop even though I don't know the gentleman.
Rip Stephen, find peace my friend.
I only just heard about this today, so I decided to look into it. Just wow. To remain so positive with the continued motivation after the diagnosis... Truly inspirational stuff. Even in your short life you managed to achieve so much, and your efforts will continue to help others in need and inspire so many more. Dedicating yourself to helping others while enjoying every part of life you could. Certainly made your time count. :) Thoughts go out to the family and friends. Just... What an incredible guy. R.I.P Stephen
Keep smiling and fighting Stephen! You are an inspiration to us all... you deserve a medal for what you are doing (& continuing to do) for helping others also with cancer! Ps...we all know that there will always be a small number of people who may may not have the brains to realise how important your message is... BUT judging by all the thousands of people who's hearts you HAVE reached... their support and sharing your story, speaks volumes! Your are a genuine, caring and amazing man who deserves respect and recognition in the battle of cancer... bless you! X
Rest In Peace Stephen! You were an inspiration to all of us! I'll make sure to tell my children/grandchildren if I have any, about you. I will tell them how much of a strong guy you were! Atleast you're in a better place now man.
How can you not like this video/story...He is an inspiration to all
What a great person, when life threw him a big slap he got back up and hit back harder. He inspires people to make the most of what you have as life is too short. All the best Stephen.
what an inspiration to mankind and if you're ever feeling down and finding it difficult in making that first step to achieve even the smallest of challenges in life just cast a thought to this young man who held the beacon of all that is good to pass on to the rest of humanity with a smile, rip young man.
Truly inspirational Stephen, you have touched so many people in your life, your family must be so proud of you. Your positive attitude to life and helping others is absolutely amazing. You have made a difference to the lives of so many people, and have made a difference to the future lives of so many more. Your dedication and bravery is unbelievable. A truly remarkable young man x x
I've just heard the news. RIP Stephen. You've certainly had a massive impact on everyone who has heard of you.
You're absolutely remarkable. Thank you for spreading so much positivity into what seems to other sufferers, a bleak world. God bless you, and know that even when your time on this earth is done, nobody will ever forget the name Stephen Sutton, and all that you've done. xxx
