    Day one: God creates heaven and earth, and light and dark.
    Day two: God creates the firmament.
    Day three: God creates land in the water, then plants.
    Day four: God creates the sun and moon; then, as an afterthought, he creates the other stars.
    If there is no sun or stars until day 4, 1) where does the light come from (a surgeon's head mounted light?) and 2) how do we have "days" without a sun?

      Ankur Roy Sadly I believe that you are a foolish in your interpretations of what is written and how it correlates to the reality you live in.
      The concept of linear perception or time has been speeding up from the beginning of the expansion.
      To say something is an exact age based upon molecular decay is a foolishness.
      As the matter spreads out to form the universe from it's singular point of creation it's molecular decay rate has been accelerating.
      This is the nature of the universe in general concerning the bending of space and time when dealing with gravitational / matter physics.
      So time or your enfeebled perception of the concept of time is irrelevant.
      You should know this already, those laws of physics that speak of matter and gravity being related.
      Einstein's gravitational theory.

      Expansion from the singularity or reverse black hole point in time would be an accelerating process of molecular decay.
      If you know the actual physics of this universe.

      I think you do not know how to read the book myself personally or the evils documented inside of it.

    This is ironic. I just had this same argument with a high school kid this morning who kept insisting that the world is too complex to be anything other than intelligently designed. I used the same argument heard here. If God has this ability to create such complex things than God must also be complex and must have also been designed. He lost me when I got into self-awareness and how could God have this ability without being a biological entity. Evolution is not an "accident." Evolution is nothing more than an on-going chain of reactions. One thing we know about nature is that is always adjusts itself accordingly. It might take tens of thousands of years, but eventually it adjusts.

    (I've been thinking about this for a decent few hours...and I killed myself.)
    If God created the Universe, then that shows God existed before the time of the Universe, but, you cannot say God existed before the Universe because time was created when the Universe was made, so, there was no technical before, but God created the Universe, which is already shown wrong by time, so, does that mean God came to existence at the same time as the Universe? That wouldn't be right because God created the Universe. So, either God created a Universe to create the Universe(Which is shown wrong here and makes no sense), God came to existence at the same time as the Universe, (Which means he didn't create the Universe) or God just created what is in the Universe instead of creating the Universe.(Which means he didn't create the Universe) I'm still trying to work this out, by the way.

    • @keanankinman1508
      @keanankinman1508 8 лет назад +1

      Let's just say, there was also no where God could have been, he literally couldn't have existed to create the Universe not only because of time, but also because of the fact there was no place he could have been, unless the Multiverse Theory is true, which means there were several Big Bangs which throws God out of the picture. Damn my mind is fucked...

    • @gregorypdearth
      @gregorypdearth 8 лет назад +1

      That is where the convenient self-defined terms come into apologetics. Take 'transcendent' for example. All that means is 'beyond' regarding our universe. It is a neat little word that gives their god a place to be (and indeed his own independent time line) when creating universes. No multiverse is necessary when you can just make up existence-states like 'transcendent.'
      But you are right about that multiverse hypothesis. It is like 'transcendence' as it represents the concept that a universe can be a container unto itself and thus there are ways to exist outside that container. If we then define the multiverse as infinite, such that there are an infinite number of containers (universes), then it is no surprise that our universe would exist... it would eventually have to exist, thus removing the necessity for an intentional creation.
      But this is all hypothetical nonsense (potentially). The universe is not nearly as finely tuned as people assert. Rather, if it is tuned for anything it is to create black holes and voids hostile to life (the vast majority of the universe falls into one of those two categories). Rather, if there is a multiverse, there are inevitably universes BETTER suited for life than ours. The problem is that we imagine life as we know it, and cannot typically imagine the completely different form life could take if physical laws, the very structure of the cosmos, or even the existence of matter were completely different.
      The thing about the big bang is that it ONLY describes an expansion event. In some models T=0 at the big bang (meaning time started there), but that is only from our perspective. The expansion of the cosmos creates a nice "arrow of time" (as Hawking put it) against which we can measure events relative to each other. But that arrow can just as easily be conceptually extended back before the big bang event. The problem is that we haven't a clue about even the existence of anything prior to the big bang (other than the singularity itself), and thus don't have any events to plot to make that extension meaningful.
      But there is nothing inherently wrong with just saying time is eternal, extending infinitely before and after the big bang event. Before the big bang, the singularity wasn't doing anything. It spontaneously started expanding at some point due to a random quantum fluctuation, since the infinite density/energy of that state is unstable. It had to eventually start expanding as it could not indefinitely remain compacted. But since nothing was happening before that event (the singularity was just existing, with no defining events), making T=0 is just a logical place to start.
      So thus you can even have a single universe, with an infinite timeline, extending before and after the big bang event and still no god required to change it from a singularity state to an expanding cosmos barely suitable for life. The possibility of the multiverse makes the anthropic question even easier to answer, but regardless, we are here because we developed barely able to survive the conditions of the universe around us. It doesn't have to be a mystery.

      yeah, okay buddy. And how many orders of magnitude is it less fine tuned? As to the level of fined tuned - ness the average "people" presume. (in which you are in such a position to declare)

    • @gregorypdearth
      @gregorypdearth 8 лет назад +1

      jamie Russell Compared to what? There is not an objective basis to make a measurement of 'magnitude.' I reject fine tuning altogether as nonsense based on a biased perspective of egotistical sentient humans interpreting the universe around them as somehow made for them without a shred of evidence. So I obviously cannot tell you how much 'less' fine tuned it is if I don't regard it as being finely tuned at all.
      Rather, I think of our existence as a statistical probability in a universe as vast as ours. Given the sheer number of planetary star systems out there, it is statistically inevitable that SOME planet SOMEWHERE would have the conditions necessary for SOME form of intelligent life compatible with THAT particular system. We are the lucky winners of that lottery. But the more we learn about life the more we find that it can survive in a wide range of conditions, meaning it might not be that rare anyway.
      The other thing to consider is the perspective that life is only as we know it. We haven't any other examples to compare life to than what developed on our tiny blue dot. For all we know, life can develop in completely unique ways in conditions WE consider inhospitable.
      This humility extends the concept to even different universe configurations. Why it is that we think life requires 3 dimensions of space and one of time is entirely egotistical and narrow-minded. There is no reason to rule out the possibility of some different type of life form in a universe with, say, 5 dimensions of space and two arrows of time, with more anti-matter than matter, and with various physical constants that either are different than the values in our universe or are completely unique, with no analogy to our universe whatsoever. Whereas we think of gravity as a feature of the universe, another being in another universe might have a completely different type of force, different ways that energy interacts, so different that we cannot even imagine what they could be.
      Lacking any information about life developing or failing to on other planets, let alone in other universes, making a calculation of the finely tuned universe is completely baseless. It is like the water in a puddle becoming conscious and pondering how it is that the hole it is in fits it so perfectly.
      It is a meaningless exercise derived from an egotistical assertion of purpose and intent, as a means to imbue existence with metaphysical meaning.

    Verse 3. “Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.” It is easy to imagine the dark smoke parting at His command like throwing open the curtains in the morning.
    Verse 4. “And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.” Again, from the earth’s perspective, our day and night division is caused by the rotation of the planet.
    Verse 5. “God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.”

    Ronald Eldon Wyatt (1933 - August 4, 1999) was an adventurer and former nurse anaesthetist noted for advocating the Durupınar site as the site of Noah's Ark, among other Bible-related pseudoarchaeology. His claims were dismissed by scientists, historians, biblical scholars, and even by leaders in his own Seventh-day Adventist Church, but his work continues to have a following among some fundamentalists and evangelicals.

    Actually, my information comes directly from the text.
    When reading the Bible (or any written material, for that matter), one must consider:
    Type of literature, cultural context, date and place of writing, information about the recipients/audience, historical setting, literary clues/references within the text, etc.
    In other words, context.

    Verse 1. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” One verse to describe the formation of our uni verse: the start of time and creation of all space and matter.
    Verse 2. “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” A brand new water planet enshrouded in darkness and the Spirit of God (power!) moving (motion) above the water. (Note the 5 aspects of the universe taught by science.)

    What kind of dataing are you referring to? Because, if you are interested in any kind of scientific research, the best thing you can do is to read books on the area or, better, read some of the original scientific papers on the subject. If you want to understand something, then don't expect information to come to you. This is a general advice, since i'm not really interested in any dating process whatsoever, so don't ask me to remove your doubts.

    In addition to AronRa's comment about the 4 days (it was 3 actually, but who's counting?) to create the earth and one day for the sun and stars, It's also interesting that god said "let there be light, and there was light" and "god divided the light from the darkness" on the first day, (implying a sun and rotating earth) yet the things that make light (sun and stars) weren't created until the 4th day?
    So god worked for 3 days with a flashlight?

    So AronRa mentions the Bhagvad Gita, and I'm not sure if anyone else has brought this up, but the Gita is actually an extract from the Mahabharat NOT a stand alone book and anyone who thinks that it is valid and consistant on it's own is quite misguided. That being said, the Mahabharat itself takes the form of a story being told and my understanding that it is not and never was intended to be a historical account of anything. I could be wrong.

    No. Aron said in part "So we have about a billion year gap between what would be the Big Bang and the formation of the Earth and the Solar System." The key word is "formation." The Earth and Solar System didn't just pop into existence a billion years after the Big Bang. Rather, they BEGAN TO FORM a billion years after the Big Bang and its formation was complete after about 10-20 million years.

    One last thought to leave ya with because I have had my fill of empty vessels for one day. If you do not believe in anything, who is it that you serve? What, if any, is our purpose on this earth? Are we simply drifting through life and then we die? Or is there a greater battle raging in front of our very eyes for the hearts and minds of mankind? My being cannot accept that there is no Creator, no purpose, for without that purpose we are essentially void of reason, mystery and substance.

    No your correct, this is not a platform to question the subject matter of the discussion. Rather I suspect it is an outlet to vent frustrations caused by being disconnected with ones inner essence. I just find it amazing that we know so much about creation, down to the atom and even 'dark matter' and yet some think it is all an accident, seriously, all of it, functioning in perfect harmony and timing? I would think someone with knowledge would at least see the creation within Life. Whatever.

    - Luke 14:26
    Would you like more? I'd also like to point out in genesis god creates everything in 6 days but that raises more problems. Why does god use time if time is a human creation? Humans use days to measure the rotation around the sun. What was god doing before genesis?

    Yup that's right. I mainly meant that he made light before light source or even space in which light could exist. And of course you could say that hey he used big bang to construct the universe but then again God's "day" would be millions of years which leads to other problems in the story. And even still, IF bible was somewhat accurate in some parts that doesn't mean that god stuff is true.

    Ockham's Razor is to not multiply entities beyond necessity, because you would be multiplying chance of error. If "A" is "everyone's making up stories" and "B" is "everyone's making up stories and there is also a real 'god' to describe", then all other factors being equal, "A"is more likely true and "B" is more likely false.

  • @Fluffykeith
    @Fluffykeith 11 лет назад

    Thank you.
    So how do you KNOW theres an entity like the one you just described? You say "It's called the truth", but simply stating a variation of "I know it exists because its true", is circular reasoning. What is it that makes you feel that its "the truth"?
    What you described seems like another way of saying "he who ignores the past, is doomed to repeat it." I don't think anyone could argue with that sentiment.
    But again, that doesn't answer the issue of the supernatural claims of Theists?
