Ivar proved this, say what you will, but Ivar was truly Bjorn's brother, there is no protection from those you love. They are the only people that can truly harm you, this was simply a very physical manifestation of that truth. So many failed to realize this and got up in arms about a cripple being able to fatally wound the greatest fighter in the series. Ignorance is the breeding ground of conflict. Lack of understadning and lack of humility leads to ruin.

Well, it’s not as if Ivar beat him in a duel. Bjorn was fighting several other men, and then Ivar snuck up and stabbed him before he even saw who was standing there. Ivar basically sucker-punched him, but with a sword. Obviously Bjorn vs Ivar in a duel would last about 10 seconds. Bjorn was arguably the best fighter of the whole show, along with Ragnar and Rollo. The fact that Ivar attacked Bjorn without the honor one would expect a brother to show him is probably meant to underscore Ivar’s lack of honor compared to Bjorn, who would never have killed Ivar in such a manner.
