    I, like so many unfortunate students, have gotten stuck in the anime sameness when it comes to face shape. Thanks for such a well-instructed video!

    I have a question though...you says hair can define if it's a woman or a man but what if a girl has short hair? How do you define it then?

    The only issue I have with art at the moment, I use a very cartoonish art style, and I’m trying to do a dark and kinda dreary and realistic story... anyone, have any types?
    I would say the art is decent, about close to this fella here, but just a tad less, wildly shaped, maybe I could try messing around with darker color schemes...?
    I’m just wondering if anyone has any tips

    • @Usha_Prasanna
      @Usha_Prasanna 4 года назад +1

      Maybe you can bring the dreary effect using dark colors or something 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔

    I dissagree with the point on hair
    If you put long hair on a boy it doesn't make it look like a girl in my opinion . girl head shape usually is softer and rounder and male head shape is often wider and more angular. Great video though. I was in an art block and this got me out.

    the only thing i virulently disagree with is teh fact that 'anime style' always looks the same or has perfect human proportions. It's an narrow minded opinion. Anime is a medium, not a genre, and there are all sorts of different proportions within anime.
    The fundimentals of character design don't stop because a medium changes. Anime just uses those fundimentals differently.

    • @PhilsDesignCorner
      @PhilsDesignCorner  2 года назад +5

      Well its not a medium or media. Its not a pencil, pigment or brush in a digital application. It is a historical drawing style that had changed over time, with some similarity but differences. The early principles were based on saving time in animation by reusing cel drawings, only having animate characters mouths, flipping character cels & body poses, or drawing characters from a front view. It grew over time and has become an awesome art form, just look at any Studio Ghibili Art of Book, amazing. I was heavily influenced as a child by Macrosse and Robotech. Thats not the problem,.the problem is my job is to get students jobs in the industry, and I have a very excellent track record doing that. Perhaps because I have worked in it for 18+ years, and continue working in it as I teach full time.In my professional experience I have been on numerous hiring committees for animation/theme park design/product design/children's books, and nobody has ever told me they are looking for artists that can draw animae very well. In fact that is the common theme that we see in students portfolios that make them all look the same, boring with no flare or indivuality in design.The only interest I have ever seen regarding animae as a job requirement is in staging & story telling that adapts its way into storyboarding from comics and graphic novels. So it is important for us in our program and at our school to prepare students for the needs an requirements of Warner Brother, Disney, Dreamworks, Pure Imagination, Vans, Sony Columbia Tri Star. Those are the place where my students are at making 90k a year.

    Thanks so much, after watching this i've realized the cartoon characters i've been drawing can be improved so much further. I'm going to try to go outside my comfort zone and experiment with different shapes.
