Exactly, just as an acnedote, I was trying to design a cast of characters the other day and the males had pretty defferent body types: like a buff dude, an overweight one, a midget, an esqueletic one... But then when I saw the women I saw that they had the same body type so I had to redesign like half of them to give them the same diversity as the guys. I didnt even realize this was such a thing until that day and I believe I was at least a bit influenced by popular media and how most female characters there have a similar shape language
This is fantastic, short and sweet but filled with some much information that you can watch it multiple times and pick up something each time. Thank you!
So helpful! Thanks so much, Nick and the Powerhouse Animation Studios for this. One of my weak points has always been character design and this surely has helped me face it with more confidence!
damn this is amazing, short and sweet, heaps of good info- are there any more in depth character design tutorials/ workshops available online that you sell? thanks
Thanks Nick! Great tips on design that help differentiate the personalities of all your characters! The silhouette thing is a cool idea, too! I will have to try that on my own character drawings!
A very informative video that I wish I watched sooner. I was actually a bit surprised to hear the explanation behind the characterization of shapes right as I was thinking about them, really hope to see more videos like these in the future!
This is lovely! I rly want to see more different shape language used for female characters. Too often they're reduced to soft shapes.
