CLODBUSTER AND ESC OPTIONS

- My modified Clod with a few options for ESC's. Sorta wish Tamiya was still using their own. Their TFU-01 fan unit is getting real hard to find, and prices keep going up. As soon as I get one of the Hobbywing's in a truck, I'll update, but I'm thinking I'm gonna be happy with one. Just wish they used the same style ON-OFF switch that Tamiya had on their electronics. 08/16/2024 UPDATE: Just made my 1st run with the Hobbywing 880 installed after I figured out my programming gaffe! Once I realised my mistake, it went quite well (gotta use the correct menu...DOH!) I might adjust a setting or 2, but all in all, very happy. Not sure it has any more forward speed than the Tamiya TEU-106BK, but TWO things to really like about it are that reverse power can be programmed, so you're not stuck at Tamiya's factory 50%, AND, LIPO capable! Haven't gotten far with the Black Edition Clod and its TEU-201BK, which is actually set up the same way as other Tamiya ESC's. Hopefully the Hobbywing programmer will work with it as well. I'll update when I get to testing it! 08/18/2024: The Hobbywing programmer DOES seem to work with the "Tamiya" TEU201-BK...I just ran mine thru the set-up procedure. FYI, you WILL need the instructions that come with the 880 QuikRun, but that should be available on line. PRO'S: Comes with a Tamiya battery connector, a fan, and a longer cord for the power switch. CON? It's more expensive, but if you don't have the correct connector and crimpers for it.....
Thank you for the video. I have been dusting off and restoring my fleet of Clod Busters and Bull Heads that I built many years ago. All of my trucks have Novak Super Rooster ESCs in them as Novak was thriving back in those days when I originally built my trucks.
In my research to get back up to speed on the approximately twenty years of R/C that I missed out on, I was surprised to learn that Novak went out of business in 2016 and thus a lot of fellow Clod Buster drivers today use the Hobby Wing QuicRun 880 ESC. What are the advantages or disadvantages of the 880 compared to the Tamiya branded TEU-201 BK ESC that you also showed in the video? I have not been able to find information that compares the two side by side.
I am thinking about maybe replacing my trusty Novak Super Rooster ESCs with something newer and more up to date but I would like to know what I would be getting and if a modern ESC would actually be an improvement over the old tried and true Super Roosters. Back in the day, everyone used Super Roosters in their Clod Busters.
Thanks for watching! From what I can figure out, the Hobbywing 880 is basically the same as the Tamiya TEU-201. Word of caution: the 880 doesn't always come with the fan nor the battery connector. I bought a programming card for the 880 and expect it to work with the Tamiya as well. I will update when I get the 880 installed. Ordered a fan and it just arrived from China. I had no idea Novak was gone; they were a big player.
@@extrema391a6 OK, thanks! I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions on these two newer ESCs that make my Super Roosters seem like they are from the stone ages.
Hey, I just made my 1st run with the 880! I'll be updating the description for the video.
@@extrema391a6 Great - thanks for the update and your opinions on the two ESCs.
Hello do you know if the teu201bk is identical to the Hobbywing 880 esc?and is it lipo compatible?
