- In the middle of our Cinemacon coverage, and Paramount has finally released a visual, exactly one week later. Being a prequel reboot featuring Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson, it's a real quippy Marvel-inspired reboot. But it's also a return to form as Transformers haven't had an animated theatrical release since the 1980s. And considering in the meantime we had had so many Michael Bay movies, it really says something about the franchise as a whole about some of the sludge they had gone through in the past. Honestly I like it, but I’m surprised with how little of the story they actually showed. Like, we know the robot fascism is there from tue trailer, but they don’t actively talk about it, Sentinel, or any of the religious deities. Really wanna see where they go for this.

Or how atm no one seems to be talking about how the workers don’t have T-cogs while other cybertronians clearly do and that the government is basically building them without these organs to keep them as slaves. As someone who’s been a Transformers fan for nearly 20 years, I was not expecting the direction the trailer was going to go.
And honestly? It’s not a bad thing. Imo it’s good.
Transformers has always been such an interesting franchise because it can be a war drama like the Skybound + IDW comics and with Prime. But at the same time it’s also just plain old fun like with G1, Animated, and even Earthspark.
And with the movies we haven’t really had that pure fun vibe yet. This feels really true to that 80’s energy back where it all started.
I agree with you there. Also, I liked how you mentioned an 80s vibe because the shot of them on the train with sun overhead is very similar to 80s synthwave imagery.

Exactly this is what I’ve been saying! Transformers literally wasn’t taking itself serious when it came out. Plus the light hearted tone makes sense since the war hasn’t started yet so It probably will get more serious down the line. Also the Cinema Con watchers did say they weren’t 100% on board when they saw the trailer but when they saw a full clip they were impressed.
Probably never going to watch the movie, but I don't see anything wrong with it. The designs are a bit weird to me, and the casting's a little off. And the story's a bit different than what I am used to, but I think this will at least be an entertaining movie.
As a transformers fan I'm so excited.
Not a fan how Hollywood uses celebrities so much, but tf isn't the only series to do this.
At least with this movie the celebs are actually doing an amazing voice job
Modern Hollywood wasn’t the only era with Celebrity actors. In Transformers ‘86, Leonard Nimoy, Eric Idle, Robert Stack, Casey Kasem, Scatman Crothers and Orson Welles were huge back then.
I love this. The character designs look so good. And Chris Hemsworth actually sounds great as Orion Pax (young Optimus). Makes sense considering he worked with Peter Cullen to craft the voice. I'm really looking forward to this.

Hearing that he actually worked with Cullen makes me respect him. I was worried that he'd just be some A-Lister who didn't care about the franchise.

I am so excited for this. I ADORE Transformers
As a fan of transformers, I noticed a lot of things that tell me this was made with love , cause they could have just stayed with g1 stuff, but they didn't. They have these nods to other parts of the franchise history sprinkled throughout. And with that said, i have a feeling of who antagonists are, them being sentinel prime and the quintessons(the squid guys) . I would explain, but that would require a recap of idw and multiple shows, but if I'm right, this movie may be more serious than the trailers appear
I'm actually cautiously optimistic about it! They're doing a few unique twists to the origin story that seem to harken back to some obscure details in the 80s show, and I actually don't hate Hemsworth or Henry as Prime and Megatron!
The only thing I'm a tad worried about is the oversaturation of Keegan-Michael Key and Bumblebee, but other than that it looks quite fun. I was on the fence before, but I think it'll be a nice movie to watch once it comes out.
I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to let megatron rip that sucka's voice out at the end... just because he's so unapologetically annoying.

As a long-time Transformers fan, I'm really excited for Transformers One. The animation looks beautiful, the voice acting is pretty good, and the Easter eggs are spot-on. Also, the Transformers franchise has always been comedic since the G1 cartoon, so they shouldn't even complain about the movie's tone in the first place.
Edit: I realized that many Transformers shows has a good balance of being comedic and mature, so my last statement would be incorrect
That last bit... I disagree. I don't think Transformer's G1 roots should automatically make criticism about something like its tone completely invalid. I was kinda hoping for something more serious too.
It looks like 💩 and the comedy is cringe.

This Looks like a Fun Prequel Movie, I’m surprised Chris and Scarlet are voicing the Characters Together as the last time they were in Avengers Although I’m wondering how the Story will see to the Creation of the Autobots and Decepticons, anyway I can’t wait to see it.

Chris hemsworth isn’t “taking over”, he’s just playing “Orion pax”, Optimus’s identity before becoming a prime. (It’s likely that Peter will have some presence in the movie, even if he isn’t pax)

Fortunately, as much as everyone loves Mr Cullen, there have been other VAs who've portrayed Prime over the years so the fandom is open to new talent

3:30 It made sense for Obi-Wan Kenobi since Jones was no longer able to do the voice so doing it through their method had him sound as he did in the 1970s for continuity sakes, Vader being mostly mechanical fits in with AI delivery honestly

I know they are making changes to the backstory but I kind of wish they kept Orion Pax being high up in the cast system to give a kind of comparison point to Megatronus who’s at the bottom. Idk just personally I always thought it was a part of the story that the two were from different worlds but saw eye to eye on one issue. They would both try to address and solve that issues in the ways they were thought.

One of my biggest personal issues with this so far is how much the Orion pax design comes off as just young optimus. For context, g1 had Orion pax feature a visually distinct design so much so that the arealbots didnt know he was optimus prime when they got time traveled to when the war started. Not only that but transformers prime got this right, and Orion pax only appeared in a brief flashback scene comprised entirely of still 2d images. I know why Orion pax has lost all visual distinctions from his older wiser self in this movie, but it still infuriates me, especially when we can see in the trailer that Megatron will undergo a noticable redesign at the tail end of the movie, and he has arguably less reason to do so.
That said I probably hold Orion pax higher on the arbitrary list of characters ranked by arbitrary opinion based thing than many other people, but it wouldve been nice to at least have some lighter blues and softer features for Orion pax to make him look like its trying to be a different design

I believe critics who watched the test screening rated this the best paramount movie, and according to leaks, the film starts off funny but gets very dark at the end. I can't wait to see this. I think the people saying its bad are judging a bit too quickly.
Everyone always judges based on first impressions. I remember there were ppl bashing ROTB because apparently according to leaks it was 'woke', but then there was almost none of that in the actual film. I hope this film also averts expectations as well.

I'm honestly looking forward to it ! My introduction to transformers was the first three Bay movies so seeing something modern with a goofy tone really interests me. It all around just looks like a fun time. Will for sure be seeing it opening week !

Megatron appears to have a black helmet, which is a direct callback to his original depiction in the G1 Marvel comics. That’s how you can tell they’re putting effort into this.
I actually like the trailer, and the fact that the characters remind me of the G1 cartoon is an added bonus, plus it got a lot of laughs out of me the first time I watched it.

Honestly I don't know how to feel about this move by Paramount.
I personally like the trailer and is hyped for the movie. I've seen people complaining about the designs of the characters or the voices but they're all fine by me (except d-16's voice although maybe it'll change once d-16 changes to megatron). And abt the character designs, I don't think we should only stick to the g1 designs, so I'm okay with these designs (no one is mentioning this but I like how d-16's helmet is black with the yellow/orange eyes like the g1 marvel megatron/his old g1 design)

I was hoping for a stylised movie, like Spiderverse of TMNT, but now that you mention it, I think you are right, it can't just follow trends.
Those aren't "trends", those movies have broken from the norm by choosing to play with their artstyle and push it somewhere new. Most films feature the same artstyle with cartoony proportions mixed with realistic textures and backgrounds. Think of HTTYD.
Transformers: One does seem to play with its style a bit, but its still too generic in my opinion. That's the Impression I got from the entire trailer TBH. Generic. But maybe it will end up surprising me and I'll change my mind.

@@thomaskuzma4360 There are a variety of art styles. None of them are trends, they are just different ways of executing the visuals. I don't understand the point of referring to the art style that way. I guess since I'm a 3D animation graduate, I don't see these things the same as consumer or marketer would. It seems silly to me, but I'm also aware that a big part of it revolves around production costs and how much effort they want to put into producing the product. So I can't really help with looking for a new term to describe it, because I don't really find it applicable.
This is not disposable fashion. Every time a big company produces a film or a video game, they have dozens of meetings over months to years of time. They're using millions of dollars worth of money and peoples time, looking for the best way to make the visuals, which they then rig and animate. Most of the time they either choose realism or a simple textured cartoon style: because its an easy, tried and true method to produce. And also because they know the average audience does not care deeply about it. Breaking from the usual way requires getting teams of artists together to develop the new look, and to develop a work pipeline for the artists to follow.
Tbh, I'm happy that it's not in SV or TMNT style (Not a fan of this style, sorry, not sorry).
I hope this is good, it's such a cool concept for an Optimus Prime origin as a stand alone movie vs just a flashback

Chris and Keagan actually sound like they’re trying but Scarlet Johnson and the Megatron voice actor, (I forget his name) I was not particularly impressed. Scarlet isn’t even trying, she’s just using her regular voice but in her defense Alita-1 doesn’t really have a difintive voice. But Megatron? Come on he sounds like he grew up in the hood! Yes, I know the voice actor is black but that’s not even remotely how Megatron has ever sounded.
I think there's a lot that the trailer is hiding from us with Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron. Based on some b-roll shots, we see Megs having serious reactions and looks at the Decepticon looking transformer (who's probably Megatronus). So I feel like out of the four Megatron's going to have the more emotional arc of the story to where he spirals and falls out with Orion.
Plus, Henry is a really good dramatic actor, just look at his roles in Causeway and the Spider-Verse movies. I'm sure that aspect of his acting will show.
On Megs, I think they've tried to hide the gravitas that will come later to make the fall hurt more. As for Elita 1, honestly given that she hasn't shown up in much media, there's not really a definite voice for her compared to Pax, Megatron and Bee

i had doughts when i first saw the trailer, but im honestly excited for the movie
I wasn't too hyped to be honest. But after seeing other people's reactions, and reading more into the movie, I've actually changed my mind. I think the plan is to lead to the War for Cybertron, so this is just planting the seed and helping us grow attachments to the characters. Chris does a really good job as Orion, and Scarlett sounds great as Elita One.

This will probably be a textbook definition of a 6/10 movie. The visuals are great though, I love its obvious vaporwave/80s influence. Its stylized while still having some realism.

I genuinely trust Hemsworth to put on a good performance. He's always been known to do his due diligence when playing as preestablished characters, so him taking on the role of Optimus Prime doesn't worry me.

i named myself after orion pax if that means anything to my love of transformers, and really? it looks cute. its not too serious, and im hoping for more people to get curious about cybertron and the story origins rather than the events during the autobot decepticon war, since theres a decent bit of lore in transformers that isnt often touched in animation
For what it’s worth, I love transformers
When it comes to having big names in an animated movie there are exceptions. Robin Williams is one of them, even in the first Lego Movie Chris Pratt was excellent. But with Transformers you have over 40 years with a lot of voice actors who would’ve wanted to star in this movie and they’re cheaper than the likes of Hemsworth (no disrespect). A lot of hardcore fans think David Kaye (voice of Beast Wars Megatron & TF Animated Optimus) would be a perfect voice for Orion Pax. Just make sure that Frank and Peter get the chance before they die.
Okay I reaaaaally hate the way the mouths look and move but so far, I'm not hating it i guess. Still put off by the idea of Peter not voicing OP for once but who knows maybe Hemsworth can be close to as good as him. And also Bee talking, don't love it lol. He SHOULDN'T lose his voice during this movie but that all depends on how they go about breaking up Megs and OP. I also hope they don't add that bit just yet, I just feel like it'd be moving too fast. But I will say I appreciate the attention to detail on the Cybertronian bodies, all the scratches and dirt. Reminds me of Transformers Prime, which I did love in part because of the attention to detail (without overcomplicating the designs like the Bay films). On the other hand, Airachnid/Blackarachnia/other bitchy robo-spider queen???? At least I think that's who I saw with the legs coming out of their back. It'll definitely be interesting to see how they incorporate her if that's the case. Maybe it'll just be another Airachnid/Arcee rivalry, idk.
I'm probably most curious about 1) if this will be anything like other Orion origins (I mean, I'm most familiar with the Aligned continuity so idk how iterations that fall out of that handled Orion's story, someone feel free to lmk) and 2) if we'll see any nods to or get any background appearances from other Bots and Cons we know and love (Starscream, I'm talking about Starscream, GIMME). Also, LAURENCE MFING FISHBURNE AS ALPHA TRION??? They better give him a prominent role 😭 Finally, I don't mind the silliness of the characters that the trailer seems to be showing, I really enjoyed Mirage in RotB, silly characters are fine but I 1) don't want Elita to play the straight man, make her as silly as the boys because I am so tired of the female character who has to keep the male character(s) focused, at least in Prime, Arcee had a reason for that, 2) need Orion to get serious at some point NATURALLY, no silly most of the way through the movie and then shit goes down and suddenly he's a super serious leader, we should be able to believe that this is the guy worthy of Prime status, the guy who'll end up leading an entire side of a war, and 3) Bee should remain basically the team child through the movie but not boiled down to just silly or adorkable. But based on the editor's note, they went full annoying kid with him. Yay.
The only thing that truly pisses me off in a way is that I have to re-learn the whole damn cannon cus this movie seems to take place before the war really came into hand and that’s before bumblebee was even created in the autobots! Bumblebee’s like half as old as Optimus!
The director work on inside out and up. This could be great.
