Dr G definitely looks too young to have been married 27 yrs!😮 I didn't even know he was partnered until I saw his Hello Fresh ad where he was clearly preparing food for more than himself lol. Congratulations Dr G, very impressive and makes me happy👏👍💜
True. The family law bar is the only winner in a divorce, though -- since the Gates' kids are all over 18 -- at least the painful issues of custody & parenting time are not going to be litigated. I tried my hand at family law when I first entered private practice: Even telling a client that s/he will likely spend a decade in prison is preferable to explaining to a client that his/her time with the children will be limited.
@@LamLawIndy My father worked as a court appointed mediator in family court mediation and often suggested that certain divorce attorneys that frequently came through his offices would purposely undermine mediation because it resulted in more billable hours. He would take me to work when I didn't have school sometimes, and I remember he was talking about one lawyer to another person in his department, when a judge who had overheard the conversation stuck his head in the door and said he thought another attorney whom he was known to clash with in court was really working with him so they both could bill more hours. Could they be disbarred over ethics for that? I know it'd be hard to prove, they'd just say they were representing their clients best interests. Would the The Bar even care?
@@LamLawIndy also, not that it really matters, but two of his kids live at home. The youngest is only 17, technically there would be some talk of custody, but that would only be subject to a few months of enforcement. The middle child is about to get married. She's probably moving out anyway.
Rennata, Sometimes the small challenges of life make it interesting. You take away all those challenges and if you don't have a true personal passion, something you love to do that drives you, life can be boring. And all that money won't help you.

Diana didn’t know about Camilla . When she found out she was told it was too late to stop the wedding as her ‘face was on the tea-towels ‘ And she was told by the Queen Mum not to worry as it was just a fling and Charles was going to dump Camilla once he married. Diana was young and naive . The woman who married Gates knew before she married him that he was going to keep seeing his girlfriend . She obviously married him for his money imo. Why didn’t he marry his girlfriend ? You’re right maybe the wife had enough ! Maybe they had an open relationship and she met someone else she wanted to be with ?
@Taiwo Omotosho I’d rather be rich and unhappy than poor and unhappy.! Lol! Seriously though , Poverty and lack of money doesn’t buy happiness either. People throughout the world are d.ying because they have no money to buy food and fresh , clean water . Many people are miserable without money too and many people have money worries . We’re all told that money doesn’t buy happiness but I don’t see the rich giving away their money to be happy! In fact they just look for opportunities just to make more money. Money gives you the freedom to live your life as you want . Eg If you want to be an artist , you can , you don’t have to worry about the bills . If you want to travel you can. Money buys power and respect . People don’t respect the homeless guy begging for money in the street . Money isn’t everything in life but it’s darn important and great to have imo .

Phoebe, Bill and Melinda's youngest child turned 18 in September 2020. My guess is at that time Melinda went to Bill and started working out the contract for their divorce. Once Phoebe turned 18, there were no custody issues so it made sense to wait until that time. After the specifics of their divorce were worked out (which would take a number of months or even a year because of their immense assets plus no pre-nup) they officially filed for divorce. Realistically speaking, I'm sure the marriage has been over for a long time. This is all conjecture on my part, but it makes sense. These situations are all about negotiation. Yep, told my husband before we got married that the only reason I'd ever divorce him is if he cheated on me. We can work through everything under the stars, but I will not settle into being put in second place. Marriage means something, it's two becoming one, not two becoming three or four. Once that trust is gone it is near impossible to get back, and I'd say it isn't worth it to get back. That event will linger in the back of your mind for the rest of your life if you stay. My grandparents finalized their divorce just before my parents got married. Their marriage was awful, and they cheated on each other. My grandma ran off with my grandpa's (still married) best friend, leaving my dad and his brothers to be raised by my grandpa. She returned, asked for a divorce and tried to buy back her sons' affection. Now, I didn't know any of this growing up. In fact, they were best friends once their divorce was done...to the point that I didn't know they were ever married or divorced when I was growing up. They didn't act like they had ever been married, and they certainly didn't act like they had gotten divorced. They never put up walls or made us compartmentalize our relationship as a family. They spent holidays together with us. They visited each other. And my grandma cared for my grandpa following his stroke until he died (even though he had remarried, but that b*tch disappeared.) I just always thought they'd been friends.
Yes, I wonder about that as well. They shared 1 weekend a year for 27 years. In that time did she not have a husband or any other close relationship that the partner would not object to this yearly weekend folly? Unless I was a gold digger I could never have a relationship like that, it would be unsustainable.
I remember when they were first married, I heard that was part of their contract. When I didn't hear anything more about it, I figured it had just been a rumor. The other rumor was that Bill's mother, Mary, picked Melinda for Bill, or at least approved her. Melinda was very similar to his his mother, and they were great friends. Talk about Seattle royalty! I am actually happy for them both, only hope that their kids are dealing with it. You NEVER see or hear anything about them.
Being married takes a terrific amount of energy focus and commitment not to mention a good sense of humor. They have too many options, that’s the problem but the world today
Divorces are not necessarily failures, and it always bugs me a little when it's referred to in that way. Clearly they had a 'successful' marriage and divorcing does not negate that success. If it's what they both want, then where's the 'failure'?
Simple. A successful marriage is one that does not end except with death, i.e. a failure to keep the vow of "til death do us part". By definition, a divorce is a failed marriage. It doesn't mean it's not justified, but it is a failure.
Although happily married myself, I've stopped thinking of divorce as "sad". There are certainly ugly divorces that are incredibly painful, but they don't have to be that way. And any time one spouse gives up on the relationship, I feel like it's really no longer healthy or fulfilling for either of them, so the dissolution is still the best outcome and in that sense can be celebrated as a relief. But, I also feel like it's ok to change your mind or your plans or goals after 20, 30, 40+ years (or fewer!)--in most areas of life we consider that healthy! Expected, even! And if you really have a great partner, you can discuss these things, and potentially decide that the marriage (which is already a weird, made-up construct, tbh.) isn't the best path forward. Why waste your life being dissatisfied?🤷🏻♀️ Now I lean towards celebrating people for being adults, having healthy, sometimes difficult conversations, and separating amicably. I would certainly never tell someone to stay in an unpleasant relationship just because they'd already wasted so much time in it! Or because it had been happy once. That's the sunken cost fallacy! If you separate amicably you can still rally together for your children and even each other. Seems mature and healthy. Not trying to tell people not to put work into their relationships, and that they can go through difficult times and stick things out and that is also good and healthy. But if the relationship is fundamentally flawed, and it cannot be reconciled through effort and counseling, etc. it's ok to acknowledge that--and move on. At 60, nowadays, you may still have 30-40 years ahead of you! That's an incredibly long time to be unhappy!

"lawyers are the only guaranteed winners in a divorce" 😂😂😂 truth
Absolute fact
So true

Bill & Charles probably get hit on ALL the time ... you gotta cut them some slack!

Your dry humor still kills me...& thank you for that.
In particular ... "I saw a picture of that car once".
Brilliant as always, Dr Grande.
Melinda played the long game: marry the simp and take half his money in the end. And being evil, Bill deserved it.
#5 All the kids are grown up and out of the house and you find out that you and your spouse no longer have anything in common. One parent, usually the mother, has spent so much time with taking the kids to and fro, that you didn't spend time keeping the marriage alive. You don't like the same music, movies, friends and activities. It's an empty feeling.
Wow, you certainly don’t look old enough to be married 27 years. That’s awesome. As always, your dry sense of humor is priceless!
My first marriage lasted 7 years. My 2nd is at 36 1/2 years and still going strong. Most of my family members who were married twice are still with their 2nd spouse. Only one got divorced after about 24 years of marriage (their first marriage lasted about four years)
Let your heart be where your treasure is. As a man thinketh in his heart so is he.
Congratulations on the first 27yrs, Dr G and here's to you guys for the next 27! Yaaaaaay!🎉💕🎊💕🎉
PS my family and I can't believe you're old enough to have been married for that long, my son (18, who is a big fan and told me about your channel) was amazed, so congrats on that too! Keep the picture in the attic😉👏👏👏
People grow apart sometimes. Especially if there is a third party. Yearly vacations with ex girlfriends can be a catalyst for change.
I would have found a guy and spent that week having fun without Bill
@@bubbles3042 ABSOLUTELY!!!
Are you sure she didnt ?
My wife would never let me get away with that no matter how much of a toad that I was.
@@bubbles3042 Then you're the same as him lmao
In public interviews, Melinda holds her tongue. She has been holding the line on a lot of lies. Bill is like tiger, not at all who he appears to be, yet the power he wants rests partly on the image.
Dr.Grande opted for shade in this video because boy he kept them coming, talking about Microsoft robots and needing updates every two days!...Good one Dr!
His wife was ok with with him spending a week each year with another woman sounds like there were already issues.
Sure she was happy about the arrangement . He was already very rich and she knew he was going to be richer . She also knew she could divorce him if she had enough and she’d be very wealthy . As Bill Gate’s wife she knew she’d get a lot of respect , mix in prominent circles and live in totally different world.
What I’m curious about is why he didn’t marry his girlfriend !
Well if it was mother, grandmother, sister or aunt it might make sense.
It never said she was OK with it.
Mr Gates is one of these people who look better
As they age. He worked hard his entire life and
Then decided to live his life. Plain and simple.
And it's not Epstein effect , Mrs Gates cared about
That as much for last winter snow. Looks like it's
CHINESE EFFECT.
She stayed because of the children. It's all $$$. Why would anyone sleep with a mousey- looking, evil man⁉️⁉️
*lowkey drops windows shade* "... now back to my analysis" lollll
Bahahaha
She's getting to the point in her life where she's no longer 'ok' with being with a man who will always love another woman more than her. The kids are grown and will be all right. She's finally seeing her value.
Except that she will always have to wonder whether she’s loved for herself or her money.
@@Mutasis_Mutandis I'm sure most wealthy women and men both wonder about that.
I would say it's better to cut your losses and move on. I'd suppose it's better to be alone than with someone you resent every day.
@@autumntaco8722 You and I think exactly alike👍
@@autumntaco8722 This is true, but only as long as regular sex is still happening. I define this as whomever has the higher sex drive in the marriage. Which is wife, supposedly, in about 15-30 percent of surveyed. And don't point fingers at men, please. Women cheat almost as much. (Within statistical margin of error).
Let’s just Hope that Melinda will not disappear or founds dead somewhere. She seems to know TOO MUCH about BG & that can be too risky for Him to let her Go Away like that so easy
They both have enough on each other to have confidence neither will slip up.
Complicit
Let's pray🙏🙏🙏
“ I once saw a picture of one”. LoL. 😂 really enjoy watching your videos. 👍🏻🙂
The Beach Cottage weekend was weird.
I live and work in Medina and watched the entire construction of his home.
Read that when they were dating, Melinda saw a whiteboard in Bill’s bedroom with a list of the pros and cons of getting married. I hope Melinda then returned the favor with her own board listing the pros and cons of staying married!
The difference between you & Bill Gates is that you didn't write it on a whiteboard. EVERYONE does this mentally. Is this man good for me...as a husband, a father, a lover, etc. or not. EVERYONE. BTW...married 40 years here.
@@seriouslyjoking2 But my story is - with a wink and a nod - on the humorous side (which makes your response ironic due to your username). Thanks for being accidentally amusing.
@@beauteoussounds1156 I hope she did.
There is no pro to a man getting married. Women, yes plenty of pros. They get financial security by divorcing. No fault laws make this possible.
No, more specially, Melinda's board had to have the pros and cons of marrying Bill Gates
Keep the history, keep the friendship.
"Bill owns a Porsche 959, I once saw a picture of one" 🤣
If I learned to use such comparisons, I would be the happiest man in the world 😆
01:51 are we not going to talk about this bizarre arrangement with the ex gf?!!
Yes, I wonder about that as well. They shared 1 weekend a year for 27 years. In that time did she not have a husband or any other close relationship that the partner would not object to this yearly weekend folly? Unless I was a gold digger I could never have a relationship like that, it would be unsustainable.
She played hard to get when he first met her then she agrees to that arrangement. Strange.
Yes. Very strange. 😱😱😱
@@deadlysquirrel5560 People have all sorts arrangements. Hey, he was upfront, and Melinda could have said no.
Aston thornton. He takes two to make a marriage in some one can't do it on their own I find it comment smug
It just means we've evolved and marriage is no longer relevant as it was in the past.
Money can buy luxury, comfort but not happiness and love.
“Spent a weekend every year with his old girlfriend...” that’s got to wear on a person. I wonder how many men would tolerate that.
Zero
