      Excellent!!! Please let us know how it turns out. I did this as much as a tutorial on how to make beef stew with some of the tips/tricks and as guide for using the Cosori. Obviously, if you want to speed things up, you can saute stuff using more than one pan...but for a "one pot" meal, you can do it all in the Cosori. I hope it turns out well for you.

      If you're talking about the out takes. Yeah. Amy kinda inspired me on some of those. The very last one, likely won't do it again. well, I might, but just not include. It took me an hour to figure out how to blur that dang thing. But now that I know.... Glad you enjoyed it. Amy was in rare form yesterday. That's all I can say. LOL!!!!

      You think that potato was a bit too big? LOL! Most of them were kinda small, but that one was a biggie. Well, I said chunky. Didn't want to disappoint. LOL!!! Yeah, I was practicing this last week and took some to work. 6 cups (1.4 liters) for lunch. Let's just say that I wasn't hungry for 24 hours. I definately suggest seasoning to taste (salt) and maybe more garlic. I mean, 4 cups (1 quart/1 liter) of broth is a lot and is kinda demanding. I thought it was great, but there are a lot of people out there that have different tastes. But let's just say that Amy is not a beef freak, she does want that broth/gravy and veggies over buttered egg noodles. Me? I'll eat it straight up. If you do make it, or even substitute anything, please let me know how it goes. We are working on our new website and it will definitely have this recipe up there.

      Thanks for the funny comment. I didn't realize that I kept saying that. Guessing I wanted to tell you how quickly I could eat each ingredient. Nothing worse than really chewy or dried out meat. This stuff rendered really nice and was flavorful. Thanks for the kind words. Funny thing was I gave a quart of this to a co-worker, and her hubby ate it all (so she got none). So it was tasty. Glad you liked the video., and thanks for watching!!!

    Eric, that was the best beef stew recipe I have seen and I have watched many videos for it. You really showed each step and I also love red potatoes with the skin left on. I hope you and Amy are doing well. I have not commented in a while but have been watching you guys' videos. I can't wait to try beef stew your way. Thank you for making the video, I am sure it took alot of time. Have a great week!!-----Tressa Daigle

      @EricLearnstoCook 7 лет назад +3

      Thank you Tressa. I'm glad you liked it. I'm a firm believer in what I did, so I'm glad it showed in the video. I read too many horror stories about bland beef stew. Too many "set it and forget it" slow cooker recipes. I normally don't comment, but this video took 5 hours to make and many more hours to edit. It was quite detailed. The test run last week took 2 hours and that included the witch hunt for 1/2 the ingredients, so it's not that much of a killer to make. Somehow having Amy as my camera lady added a bit more time. LOL!!! But she was helpful. We always appreciate your comments, so please don't be a stranger. Glad you still enjoy watching them.

      Thanks Sharon. Yeah, these downdraft ones aren't cheap. But it's in there now. Just couldn't stand that electric coil one another day. You'd be warming up a heavy pot of water for spaghetti and then wonder why it stopped boiling. They come unplugged all the time. A total pain. This new one is nice, but a pain to keep clean. everything makes it not shine. So we buy that Cerama Bryte by the bucket. LOL!!! Did you dare watch the whole video to the end?

    I love multifunction cookers, they're really handy and takes out all the guess work. That meal looks great Eric, and that cooker is pretty cool, there's many models available and it's hard to know what to buy.

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 7 лет назад +4

      Thanks Angie. I was trying to show that it is possible to do a one-pan meal that othewise is a PITA to make. But I also went overboard for the slow-cooker people that like to put all the ingredients in without browning and come home 8 hours later and it's all done. How's that for a run-on sentence? You get my point, right? I read too many complaints about various bland recipes. Thus common points are not browning the meat, not using alcohol when cooking, not using 'sacrificial veggies', etc. But I'm sure it may have been info overload. Luckily, I do have my recipe in writing, but I have to modify one more time to match what I did for the show. Amy's not a big beef eater, but will eat the veggies and gravy. So at least I'll have some help eating all that stew. Last week, my test recipe is part eatin and part frozen (let's just say that I filled a 6 cup (1.4 liter) container and ate it for lunch Friday. I didn't want to eat anything else until 24 hours later. So that stuff is hearty, for sure. Plus I was just being a pig. LOL!!!!!

    Looks so good! Next question. Suggestion if you can't ear tomatoes, is there another option for tomatoe paste (lectin free)?

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 5 лет назад +1

      I'm not an expert on that subject, but it may be possible to reduce or almost eliminate lectins from tomatoes by removing the skin, de-seeding them, and cooking in a pressure cooker. So you may want to see if there is any truth to that (and if that is false), then you would need to find other veggies that are like tomatoes minus the lectins. Now for this beef stew, I touched on many ideas to add flavor. I don't want someone to put carrots, potatoes and some meat in a slow cooker and complain it tastes like cardboard. So the ideas do work. Will you miss the tomato paste? Probably not. It helps, but is not needed. It's just one layer of flavor among others. That's all. I hope that helps.

    • @AmyLearnsToCook
      @AmyLearnsToCook  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah you can leave it out and adjust the seasoning. If you need a thickener, just add a slurry. Some people add a small amount of cocoa powder.

    I've always wanted to learn to use my pressure cooker, it still scares me a bit. I noticed you said in another comment that the cooktop was harder to keep clean, I use a single flat razor blade on mine. A little tip I learned from another youtuber "Phyllis Stokes", it works great and hasn't hurt my glass cooktop. After 4 years mine still looks like new.

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 7 лет назад +1

      The cooktop cleans up OK. We're referring to anything will mess it up and then we need to use that white stuff cerama bryte to buff it clean...then something else messes it up, repeat over and over. You can't just use Windex and wipe it clean. At least the nasty old one, we could wipe it down. If it really got bad, we'd toss the pans under the coils in the dishwasher. This thing is just screaming for attention. That's all. If it was white, it likely wouldn't show as bad as the black does. I did use a razor that came in the cerama bryte kit. it worked good to scrape some goo off. Well, good luck on the pressure cooker. have you watched any videos on youtube that applies to the type you have? Hopefully that will help.

    • @bonniefanning8302
      @bonniefanning8302 7 лет назад +1

      I have not watched it yet but I will. Every time I get it out to use my mind goes back to childhood when mom would use hers with the old juggler thingie on. Mom would always warn us kids to stay away from it because it might blow up, probably to keep us away from it, and it still scared me. lol My glass cooktop is white and the cerama bright just doesn't seem to work well enough for me so I use the flat razor blade often with no problems or scratches.

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 7 лет назад +3

      That's funny and scary (childhood memory pressure cookers). Yeah, my mom had a scary looking one too. These things have advanced technology. Back then it was just a weight. I suspect if you had some scary food like porage and it clogs the vent, then even the three bears would run out of that cabin. I have a house in California that has a white cooktop. It's problem was it gets discolored from use. Something about Kenmore ranges. It was white. We had it replaced once because of the discoloration. But because it's white, fingerprints and stuff doesn't show up as bad. This one is the worst. We've been lucky to not spill too much stuff on it that gets cooked in and needs scraping. Amy did once. I'm too scared to use it much other than boiling water for pasta. Well, good luck getting over those old fears. Try to look at the positive. Is there any food that takes too long to cook conventionally, but if you used a pressure cooker to save time, then you might try it? If so, then give it a try. Just make sure your home insurance is paid up and no breakables in the blast zone. :-) May I suggest a dark color for your ceiling paint just in case?

      oh no. I was fine. I was more scared that it would burn than what it actually did. I've done much worse. You know, being a greedy pig and not waiting for food to cool down. LOL!!! Yeah, if you have an electric pressure cooker, they are much safer than the ones from the old days. yeah, part of this video was so long because I was trying to show how it works, rather than just dump stuff in and go DING! 30 minutes later. Thank you for the complement on the video. We tried to do a good job. Amy back there eating Rice Krispies Treats and surfing on her phone rather than playing camera woman, but we managed. LOL!!! It did taste good. Amy's not much to eat beef, but she liked the broth/gravy and veggies. So I made some buttered egg noodles for her to put this over. I'll just eat mine straight up. Hope you give your cooker a try. One thing positive is they can cook stuff in a hurry. Besides screwing around with all these ingredients, actual cooking time was 30 minutes plus time to come up to pressure (compared to 2-3 hours for normal cooking). You can boil eggs on low pressure (and they turn out good from what I hear), Amy prefers to steam her eggs so they peel easier. Artichokes are done much quicker. So lots of things....But you can always use an extension cord and put it out on your deck so if it does blow up, you're indoors. :-) I'm sure you'll be fine.

      Eric, you can put the saute mode on an electric pressure cooker on low, med., or high by using the adjust button :) My IP has that. :) I'm glad you showed us how to use it, it was not too long. Some i've seen were too short and direction skimpy! Thanks again!

      I've had one for two months. The corned beef brisket it produced on a 42 hour cook was the best I've ever had in my life. And I've had a lot of corned beef in 6 decades of eating. I chose the Joule. Took me a year to save up for it. I did without Twinkies to afford it.

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks for watching. Yeah, I hadn't heard of them either until it arrived at the front door. It seems very similar to an Instant Pot, and is a bit cheaper (plus a free glass lid and extra gasket) was nice of them. It seems to work. My biggest complaint is that I like manual controls. Programs are "nice" for the set it and forget it crowd, but if you are browning 3 pounds of meat (IP does the same) then you have to hit the saute setting a second time because 20 mins isn't enough. But then, the program has no idea what I'm trying to saute. It did a nice job. The stew came out really good, and even Amy will eat the gravy and veggies. I got lucky that potato didn't kill me. I was just expecting the worst, but it was a bit cooler than I was expecting. LOL! So I live another day. Thank you.

    Nice job on this demo. Love this recipe. Good cooking skills shown. You know, I like this pressure cooker. But, if Cosori wants to compete in this market they had better focus on Customer Service and Quality! The product reviews will tell the story. Personally, I wanted a Instant Pot, but the Reviews were so bad........I just moved on. Thanks again for this nice review!

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 6 лет назад +1

      Edward, thanks for the great comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. We've had good success with both the Instant Pot and the Cosori. The Cosori is a bit cheaper and sometimes gives an extra gasket (where Instant Pot makes you pay for any extra gaskets) for the pressure cookers. Cosori seems to mimic the Instant Pot, so if you had both, they'd act about the same. Customer Service and Quality is definitely how you win customers. I agree 100%.

  • @feliciaharris7372
    @feliciaharris7372 7 лет назад +1

    Eric, I laughed so hard on your outtakes that I choked on my own spit, lls! I've never met a beef stew I liked, either bland and chewy or so salty I couldn't bear it, but this looks yummy! Those were some excellent tips about salting, as a newbie cook I didn't know that, very useful. would the same apply to chicken? Favorite moments: "cooking sounds, sacrificial vegetables, wine chugging, do I have to edit this out, lol". But Eric, how did you pass up that Julia Child moment when you poured the wine, some for the pot, some for you, lol. Guess the chugging at the end made up for that oversight.
    so of course now you guys need to do a video on the Instapot and let us know which you prefer. I have a Fagor, but it's not a multipot, pressure cooker only.
    Great Job Eric, look forward to more!

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 7 лет назад +1

      Felicia, I'll probably have to make a "Salting" video then. I made enough about brining. Some people are opposed to brining but like salting. Yes, you can salt chicken. Glad you learned something :-) Yes, there's a lot of bad beef stew recipes out there. I froze a bunch of this. Gave a quart to a co-worker. Unfortunately, Amy's not much of a beef eater, so she went heavy on the veggies and gravy. So one of my baggies was mostly meat with little veggies. That went to my co-worker. Her hubby loved it, other than the lack of veggies. LOL!!! yeah, too much salt can ruin things. We try to preach 'season to taste'. There are times to salt things and even then, we go light on purpose. Love your favorite parts of the video. Glad you watched the whole thing. I saved the best for last. But in all honesty, Amy kinda deserved that. She was munching in the background while I was filming. LOL. I'm not a big wine fan, so no Julia Child moment for me, but I get your drift. If you are friends on facebook, then you saw Amy's little video after we ate some Mexican food on Sunday when she asked me where her margarita went. That was funny. We did use the IP on my beef pot pie. They both are very similar down to using the same music. This gives you extra stuff for free compared to IP. That's about it. Amy has a Fagor. Not sure if she's used it. Once again, glad you liked the video. Try not to drown on spit when laughing. LOL!!!!

    You browned your meat. Did not see how you turned the cooker on, and to what setting? Also just curious. I am going to attempt a beef roast for my first meal. How long do I cook this for?

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 7 лет назад +2

      When you plug it in, it flashes the dashes. At 3:26 I showed clicking the program button. It came up as P01 and I clicked the + button to change to P05, which is Saute. I have not pressure cooked a roast beef. Typically, a pot roast is cooked in liquid and a pressure cooker may take 30 mins at full pressure to cook one. (hopefully you brown the sides first). A roast beef is usually cooked dry, such as in the oven and would be cooked until it hits your desired internal temp (I like my roast beef pink on the inside. A pressure cooker would make it well done, thus I wouldn't cook mine that way). I hope that helps. We'll do a pot roast in the future.

      Thank you. Glad you enjoyed watching. Keep it simple then. Add the veggies to the meat late in the cook so they don't turn to mush. Booze and broth helps. Anything that you can add to the basic recipe where people use crockpots and do nothing and wonder why the food is OK but it isn't fabulous. This turns out much better.

    Don't want no crunchy veggies and don't want them mushy either. I want then firm but soft. I want them just right😀

      I agree. This was to demo the cooker and make something tasty. I would highly recommend using a second pan to speed the process up, especially when doing so many batches. You would still have to deglaze the second pan as long as it is stainless steel and not teflon coated, lest miss out on some tasty additions to the stew. Thank you for watching.

      I'm a stainless steel cook, especially anything meat, and deglazing with a good wine. Always enjoy you and Amy, your a lovely couple.
