You don’t need to know a song to freestyle, you just have to let your body go with the flow 🤷🏻♂️ just dance and that’s it, the beat is stable, move with it. People who can’t freestyle is a because they aren’t natural dancers. A natural dance let the body move with what they are hearing, it’s something that just happen, I can’t explain it 😂 it’s like improvising singing riffs. And also music has patrons, your body just know them, it’s muscle memory.

The dance Lisa did in Knowing bro’s wasn’t freestyle. Apparently It’ was a famous Thailand dance move. She mentions it too at the beginning. Also for irenes dance to Havana she wasn’t freestyling she was recreating this video that went viral of her. But great video it did teach me a lot!!!

In Chaeyeon’s case, it wasn’t technically a freestyle, since she was using an old choreography she did when she was a trainee (there’s a video of it on RUclips, but I forgot the name of the song). But kudos for her musicality tho, she read the beats so well it looked like she was grooving spontaneously.

I don't mean to come at her but I didn't get the thought that she may be good at freestyling on the spot the way a lot of American dancers are (e.g Fik-Shun, Dytto, Charlize Glass, Bailey Sok, Big Will Simmons just to name a few). @vic sz I think it's mostly because she isnt trained by JYP for that. As most girl groups probably focus on clean lines, angles and projection specifically for group performance. If Momo decides to pursue popping more, she'll really be a monster. She has the power, and isolation so she can definitely pull this off.

I think Hayoung's and Hyoyeon's freestyle's were my favorite and I love Chaeyeon's too Wendy actually has great musicality, but she really lacks in dancing technique. Her Freestyle to Beyonce's Naughty was the best I've seen among Red Velvet's freestyles, and it was on a stage!

okok so im a dancer and at competitions, theres always improv (freestyle) competitions and honestly its so scary 😳😳 most people tend to do tricks and it ends up being repetitive and uncreative

hyoyeon freestyling to «untitled» will forever be iconic and mind blowing. it’s so mesmerizing to watch her hit every beat of the song, and the fact that she didn’t even know the song that well makes me even more impressed. her popping and locking is on point.

I get what you're pointing out about musicality and creativity, but as a dancer myself, there's no bad in freestyle lmao. It's how the music let you groove or move to the music. There are idols out there who aren't familiar with specific genres of music so they find it hard to think of certain dance steps randomly given on the spot. Personally, I think Lisa was coordinated with the song on "Lean On". There's no good and bad in freestyling, that's why it is called freestyle.
If you see something like chungha or chayeon and even momos baby shark freestyle compared to the bad ones in here yes there is a bad and good freestyle

Honey, idk about u but there is good and bad freestyle and thus, when you see different dancers doing a freestyle, don't you ever think that some of the dances don't look good? If you are a dancer, you should be able to move your body and make moves when you listen to a beat and believe me that Lisa is a good dancer but she has a lot of flaws too but her most powerful quality is her stage presence while dancing but that I personally feel that FREESTYLING is just not Lisa's thing.

Some people might say that FREESTYLING is not important for a dancer but I disagree, as a dancer, I am able to move my body immediately when I hear the beat and you also have to be creative enough to make the moves. Freestyling is the way that tests whether you are creative enough to make your own moves or not. Many people claim Lisa to be the best dancer but according to me, I disagree. The only thing I feel that Lisa has the most powerful quality is her stage presence and thus, many people claim her to be the best. I have seen a couple of her dances and for me, she needs a lot more improvement. Her "Senorita" dance was such a mess in Youth with you. Everyone can dance in kpop in my opinion, but only few Should be called dancers because if you can't freestyle to a song, then it just means that u aren't Creative enough to make your own moves.
Hyoyeon is a literal goddess of dancing. She got me into GG way back in the days when I saw her in an old dancing show Star Dance Battle (I'm really sad they stopped producing it in 2009-2010). She was just sooo different and fresh I was blown away by her dancing and charisma, not to mention the stage presence she has and as a dancer myself I felt so aspired. Somehow she was always put to the side by SM tho, they never gave her much opportunity to shine in my opinion, not enough to match her the amazing skills she has anyway. P.S Another honourable mention is Luna from F(x). Easily one of the best out there!
YES. No one has reached Hyoyeon's technique and skill level among the female dancers in kpop. She's very good and incredibly versatile. Also, LUNA. The girl entered SM as a Dancer and was 'little BoA' for a reason. She even went on to become SM's best female vocalist, and I hate that people don't talk enough about her. She deserves the world.

I just want to share a story or smh lmao: I lastly tried to do some freestyle(I recently got into dancing I'm planning to take some classes this year so yeah I'm a begginer) and at the begging I didn't really know what to do. I kept on thinking what to do, but after some time I just started dancing. I feel like I'm often off the beat and I lack of creativity(my moves are kinda repetitive) but it's really fun to do and I actually enjoy it very much:D Also I wanted to ask you, how to count while dancing? I mean I can count on the beat(idk how to say that) but when I try to dance and count I feel confused:/If you know what should I do, I would be really grateful if you could tell me:>
I think you can find some tutorial (?) on youtube out there "how to count 8 steps dance" or sth... i'm no dancer but i once saw one of those videos on my timeline.. usually an ad from steezy channel also came up in my algorithm, maybe u can check their channel? hope it helps
Steezy Studio has a video on counts. Search "Steezy Studio how to count" and it should be the first video. They break it down really well and it really helps me when I'm leaning a choreo. I recommend watching the vid a few times on different days. Also, if you learn how to count you won't need dance tutorials as much and leaning without one would be easier. I used to always use tutorials (explanation ones) for the dances I wished to learn untill I wanted to learn a specific dance but the group wasn't popular so I couldn't find any good tutorials (meaning they didn't do the moves properly) and I got fed up. Now I usually learn dances without tutorials. Using tutorials is a faster process for me but in the end I do the dance better without one. Not always using counts will make the learning process easier. I tried learning Sunmi's Lalalay with counts and I wasn't getting anywhere. It was so much easier without counts. I haven't tried to do counts to a dance without music before so I don't know what say about that.
its pretty complicated, there are tutorials on youtube, like this guys said. But for me I always count and 1 and 2 and 3 and 4. Dividing always helped me
I have so much respect on Hyoyeon, and it adds more when she joined Hit The Stage back in 2016 or 2017? She definitely prove me that she is versatile and a true definition of dancer. She did a lot of genre in that competition even she's unfamiliar with it, and even it's her first in some of it, she slayed it. ❤️❤️❤️
So glad you included fromis_9's Hayoung in the clip. Once I saw her freestyling in Idol School (the scene where she kinda blew up) was when I knew that she had to have more experience than just dance schools for Idols. Then looked through the comments and found out she has a history of joining Hip Hop competitions. That's super rare in the Idol world, and sadly out of trend, so obv her talent is so much overshadowed, which is a shame

It's so funny how they think Lisa is the BEST DANCER in the K-POP industry, just because she and her group is famous. If you watch Lilifilms it has so many cut versions, in which they need to repeat her dance movements to find the best angles. I get what you're pointing out about musicality and creativity, but as a dancer myself, there's no bad in freestyle lmao. It's how the music let you groove or move to the music. There are idols out there who aren't familiar with specific genres of music so they find it hard to think of certain dance steps randomly given on the spot. Personally, I think Lisa was coordinated with the song on "Lean On". There's no good and bad in freestyling, that's why it is called freestyle.
If you see something like chungha or chayeon and even momos baby shark freestyle compared to the bad ones in here yes there is a bad and good freestyle

Some people might say that FREESTYLING is not important for a dancer but I disagree, as a dancer, I am able to move my body immediately when I hear the beat and you also have to be creative enough to make the moves. Freestyling is the way that tests whether you are creative enough to make your own moves or not. Many people claim Lisa to be the best dancer but according to me, I disagree. The only thing I feel that Lisa has the most powerful quality is her stage presence and thus, many people claim her to be the best. I have seen a couple of her dances and for me, she needs a lot more improvement. Her "Senorita" dance was such a mess in Youth with you. Everyone can dance in kpop in my opinion, but only few Should be called dancers because if you can't freestyle to a song, then it just means that u aren't Creative enough to make your own moves.
Hyoyeon is a literal goddess of dancing. She got me into GG way back in the days when I saw her in an old dancing show Star Dance Battle (I'm really sad they stopped producing it in 2009-2010). She was just sooo different and fresh I was blown away by her dancing and charisma, not to mention the stage presence she has and as a dancer myself I felt so aspired. Somehow she was always put to the side by SM tho, they never gave her much opportunity to shine in my opinion, not enough to match her the amazing skills she has anyway.
P.S Another honourable mention is Luna from F(x). Easily one of the best out there!
YES. No one has reached Hyoyeon's technique and skill level among the female dancers in kpop.
She's very good and incredibly versatile.
Also, LUNA. The girl entered SM as a Dancer and was 'little BoA' for a reason. She even went on to become SM's best female vocalist, and I hate that people don't talk enough about her. She deserves the world.

I just want to share a story or smh lmao: I lastly tried to do some freestyle(I recently got into dancing I'm planning to take some classes this year so yeah I'm a begginer) and at the begging I didn't really know what to do. I kept on thinking what to do, but after some time I just started dancing. I feel like I'm often off the beat and I lack of creativity(my moves are kinda repetitive) but it's really fun to do and I actually enjoy it very much:D
Also I wanted to ask you, how to count while dancing? I mean I can count on the beat(idk how to say that) but when I try to dance and count I feel confused:/If you know what should I do, I would be really grateful if you could tell me:>
I think you can find some tutorial (?) on youtube out there "how to count 8 steps dance" or sth... i'm no dancer but i once saw one of those videos on my timeline.. usually an ad from steezy channel also came up in my algorithm, maybe u can check their channel? hope it helps
Steezy Studio has a video on counts. Search "Steezy Studio how to count" and it should be the first video. They break it down really well and it really helps me when I'm leaning a choreo. I recommend watching the vid a few times on different days. Also, if you learn how to count you won't need dance tutorials as much and leaning without one would be easier. I used to always use tutorials (explanation ones) for the dances I wished to learn untill I wanted to learn a specific dance but the group wasn't popular so I couldn't find any good tutorials (meaning they didn't do the moves properly) and I got fed up. Now I usually learn dances without tutorials.
Using tutorials is a faster process for me but in the end I do the dance better without one. Not always using counts will make the learning process easier. I tried learning Sunmi's Lalalay with counts and I wasn't getting anywhere. It was so much easier without counts.
I haven't tried to do counts to a dance without music before so I don't know what say about that.
its pretty complicated, there are tutorials on youtube, like this guys said. But for me I always count and 1 and 2 and 3 and 4. Dividing always helped me

I have so much respect on Hyoyeon, and it adds more when she joined Hit The Stage back in 2016 or 2017? She definitely prove me that she is versatile and a true definition of dancer. She did a lot of genre in that competition even she's unfamiliar with it, and even it's her first in some of it, she slayed it. ❤️❤️❤️

So glad you included fromis_9's Hayoung in the clip. Once I saw her freestyling in Idol School (the scene where she kinda blew up) was when I knew that she had to have more experience than just dance schools for Idols. Then looked through the comments and found out she has a history of joining Hip Hop competitions. That's super rare in the Idol world, and sadly out of trend, so obv her talent is so much overshadowed, which is a shame

It's so funny how they think Lisa is the BEST DANCER in the K-POP industry, just because she and her group is famous. If you watch Lilifilms it has so many cut versions, in which they need to repeat her dance movements to find the best angles. Blinks can't accept the fact that she's really STIFF she can't execute her body movements properly. Her torso up to her body can't compliment to her dance movements. And she kept on repeating her style of movements,her free style is below 4/10. This is not a hate comment, but an OPINION and FACTS. So if you can't accept it idgad.
