Same here man. When I saw another brown guy doing gunpla that was huge for me. I never really thought it would matter but seeing someone like me having success with it means a lot.
Great video - thanks for sharing your processes and thoughts! For anyone wondering - the weirdness with mixing Vallejo and Tamiya products comes down to their base material - Vallejo (and Games Workshop's Citadel paints) are water-based, where other brands like Tamiya, Gaia Notes, AK Interactive, Molotow chrome pens etc. are either oil (e.g. enamel) or alcohol-based. Many of these brands will have the word "acrylic" on the bottle, but it won't mean they are compatible with other "acrylic" brands and can cause lots of confusion and messed up paint work! The thinners for water-based paints would be similar to the actual paint, with a thinner consistency, little smell and no pigment. Check your bottles carefully for things like "thins with water" or "thins with alcohol" (isopropyl) or "thins with mineral spirits" (white spirits/turps). AK paints can be tricky as their range has both water-based paints similar to Vallejo, and enamel paints which need to be thinned with spirits - make sure you check the label so you don't buy the wrong type!
I found and I'm now following you. I just want to say how this video reminded me that I got into these kits cause it's fun and that's why it's a hobby. I'm in the middle of a kit that's really pushed my talents that are very beginner right now and it had me and doubt. But this video has brighten the flame I have for this hobby and just thank you for that.
I know after I started to build kits again. My mind got a lot clearer, I was less stressed out form work and physical pains my body was causing me. I was finally able to relax and just go with the flow and chill. Which is why I enjoy your content so much.
custom SD's..... I thought we were a dying breed. Many thumbs up! *looks at stack of untouched gundam boxes, looks at shelves full of assembled unpainted gundams* *SIGH* I'm gonna paint an SD this weekend in your honor sir!
My goal is to customize the army of SD's, since they sit in front of all the larger gunpla....., but there are so many things to do between here and there. You might enjoy Toon Tanks. They are real wwII tanks, but chibi. If you are in the states, then Hobby Lobby has 3 diff. models and you can use a coupon to get em for about $8. No glue, but nippers a must!!!!
Great Video as always dude. Can I add a couple things to this video just from personal experience. 1. Make sure the filter on your mask is good for the type of gases/paints you use A2 should be suffice. 2. I live in the UK and it's pretty moist most of the time, so I place a fresh bit of paper towel in my moisture trap on the compressor (I just blow through air every time I add new bit to remove and loose fibres). 3. Guys if you're new to AB (airbrush painting) don't be scared to mess up, you can always strip and restart, every kit you paint will give you new perspective and you'll improve on your next kit. 4. If you make your own custom paint WRITE THE RATIO DOWN!! making small samples and trying to replicate what you did from memory is a nightmare :) 5. Buy some plastic spoons from anywhere and use those for practice and paint combinations, you can always strip and reuse them, or just use them to test of your ratio after mixing is good.
A tutorial that also explains the "why" you make certain choices. That is pretty incredible as well as rare. You just won yourself a fan! Please keep up the good work!
His first for airbrushing but I believe he has done some for spray painting(not sure tbh) and some for LEDs but the older ones have definitely aged but still aren’t half bad. This is probably the best though especially since it is the primary focus of the video.
Thanks for the video. I really like your style to be so chill and lay back. I know you put lots of effort into this. I actually got inspired by you to put LED in my PG strike
Doooood. Watching you paint in real time helps so much. I'm so used to you using sped up footage, and I struggle to figure out what my motions should be. I understand practice is issential, but I have a 14 a day job, a wife, and a 3 year old son. Most of my knowledge is from RUclips during lunch.
wow. this guy deserve a like and a subscribe. 40-minute video which he could cut so he could have more content. but he put it all in one video. so much tutorial in one video that you could actually learn from. and he did all that without losing the sense of having fun and having pride of what you do. good job, pal!
I started gunpla about 20 years ago, SD grade really really came a long way. I remember it was literally waist then foot, ow it has legs with joints. was into HG about 10 years ago. and MG in recent years. My friend got me a SD RX78-2. I feel like I will go back kto SD for a while, it looks good to have a MG and SD next to it.
It’s a shame you don’t have much subs, your work are simply awe inspiring and I’ve been following your work for many months now and it helps so much with my recent kits.
Thank you so much for such your thorough tutorial. You have pointed out most of my frustration when I use airbrush. Now I know why my airbrush always gets clogged up.
OMG how jarring is it to find out you're not just a pair of hands, like Dr. Claw. New graphics are off the chain BTW and I'm loving the new style of video. Looking forward to seeing more!
I come here to mainly just listen and chill, and it's my first time seeing your face and wow you look so happy building. I don't build gunpla as of now but I hope to in the future, when I get my own place etc. Watching your vids just makes me never lose my passion with gundam in general. Thank you
As soon as RUclips recommended me this video, I watched it and after a few minutes, I subscribed. You sir did well in your video and I liked it. I share the same hobby and I would like to do it professionally. You pay attention to every detail and give us product names so that we too can know what you use. Thank you.
Thanks for this video man. Production, content, format and quality are all 10/10. This kind of video gives me confidence to start painting up kits and take the time to enjoy the process.
Thank you for this tutorial! You really do inspire us with your videos and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge so much! It was also a pleasure to meet you (in the video) finally😅😅
Excellent work and video, mate!! I really loved when you spoke about enjoying the hobby, the process and the actual moments spent with working on a kit. I rarely ever post my stuff because I know I'm by no means anywhere close to presentable quality but the enjoyment and relaxation of just being in the moment tinkering and painting away means everything :) keep it up!
Great tip guide to Airbrushing, I just watch and imitated your paint style with some creative changes of my own, for example I had painted a 1/100 2001 MS-18E Kämpfer in my fathers college bowl team colors (Ohio state away colors) and gave it a nice gloss coat for the chest, head, shoulders, and feet just to make them look like a real helmet, jersey, and cleats
Omg, this video is awsome!!! Thank you so much, you have answered alot of my questions and right to the point. I think I will even paint an SD to learn before I hit my master grades. Keep up the great work
look you do this so easy. But I know is very hard to start learn print . I’m just build GUNDAM right now. Thank you for teacher how do print the color. Very helpful
This tutorial showed me what I was doing wrong with my preshading, and the technique you use on the yellow parts brought new dimension I was not ready for! Thank you so much for putting this together!
Awesome Video ! THere is just soo much stuff to know to get started with airbrushing that i keep setting it back again and again... I should really kick myself and start by getting the booth / airbrush / compressor at some point !
This video is by far the most informative and such a deep dive into what equipment and measurement needs to be used. Very precise, super informative and a great video to teach people how they can start painting their gundams. Enjoyed every minute of the video Great bgm throughout Kudos @OtakuBuilder for uploading such great content 🤟🏻🤙🏻🍻
Amazing tutorial video! It is so informative, I feel like I can take my Gunpla hobby to the next level! Starting with some SD kits I already built of course, for practice first haha. It is much appreciated. Keep doing what you are doing and I can't wait for your next video. Thank you!
Great job on the tutorial, i like the part where you talked about pre-shading. Are you going to make an LED guide as part of this tutorial series. I really want to learn how to connect LEDs the way you do.
Great work, I suggest grabbing some metal polish compound like Brasso (Walmart) and going over the needle with a cloth and the compound to shine it up (Low speed dremmel with a polishing pad and the compound works best). Work it good and do it regularly and eventually it'll get better and better. It's what separates the cheapo airbrushes from the premium ones. All airbrush pieces are pretty much made in the same plant the difference between say an Iwata and a Master is the amount of finishing said airbrush receives before being labeled and shipped. You can make a 20 brush perform like a 200 dollar one by honing the insides and finishing up that needle. You can see dotted speckled over spray on your pieces and that comes through in the paint, 2 or 3 minutes with some Brasso and that will fade away dramatically until you end up with a really good turned and polished needle. No coarse materials though, just the compound and some cotton cloth or better yet polishing pads on a dremmel. P.S Really loved how you lit up the eyes and the Propulsion, awesome little kit with that touch. I might go Pico's with my RG kits not sure yet ;) Great work man!!
Wow, just wow. So informative I subbed and liked. I’m so inspired right now I just got into painting and this has me so hyped to keep painting. My first kit I painted was a SD and it uh didn’t come out as good as this one but I’m still happy with it and this vid has inspired me to keep painting and trying to improve.
Just an amazing tutorial my dude! Thank you for being an inspiration in my life. I need to check out that new airbrush booth. I have the older, single fan model. Thank you for all you do!!!
Don't usually comment but man thank you so much for this!!! Found you through Instagram suggestions and you've inspired me to finally pick up airbrushing and to tackle some perfect grade kits! May try some LED work in the future haha but thank you for all you done man! And thanks for putting everything you use in these videos, made it easy for me to decide on what to get! 👌 Looking forward to your next video man!
Amazing tutorial, even if I don't plan on getting an airbrush! Would you be willing to make a step-by-step LED tutorial for Evans Design products specifically? You could supplement what you're saying/showing with simple diagrams drawn with highlighters.
@@nordindelosreyes3473 I watched his GM Sniper and Tallgeese I vids and the problem is that he doesn't explain how the wiring works. This is the type of airbrush tutorial that I've been looking for. Thank you for making this!

@@LalienX I havent touched a gunpla in months. I did order a Megasize zaku, since I didn't have one, and 3 came available for 75bucks 👍 I grabbed 1.
Your videos are so aesthetically pleasing to watch
I love so much your "don't forget having fun building your gunpla" speech.

Great video man - loved the explanation. I'm a noob and am in information gathering stages, your vid really helped.
congrats, Otaku! this is perhaps one of the most well done and simple airbrush guides on youtube. I keep going back to this video for references.

Red acrylic is pretty challenging when hand painting. Always remember use multiple thin coats, and build the color up to have full saturation.
