Description of the places visited by us on the 18th Dec tour of “A day in Thanjavur”.
Brihadeeswara Temple - We started our day in the morning at the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage site Sri Brihadeeswara Temple.
The Brihadeeswara Temple is located in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. This temple is very ancient and dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple was built in the 11th century by the King Raja Raja Cholan.
Architecture of this temple is a good example of Chola architecture and execution.
It took Chola king only 6 years to complete the entire construction of this temple.
We also noticed there is a big statue of Nandi Ji carved out of a single stone. The height of the Nandi is 3.65 m, 5.94 m long and 2.59 m broad. The weight of the Nandi is 25 tons.
Then we had the darshan of Lord Shiva at the main temple. We had Darshan of “Shiv Lingam” Munshi Ji told us that this is a 12 feet shiv lingam and the weight is 12 tons.
Temple remained closed from 12:30 Pm to 4:00 pm
Guide Info - We explored the Brihadeeswara Temple with experienced guide Mr Munshi Ji.
Best time to visit - November to December is the best time to visit Thanjavur Temple, and if you are coming in summer it’s best you visit the temple in the Evening from 4 - 5 pm so that you can do darshan at the temple and in the evening you can experience the temple lighting as well.
Lunch near temple - After this, we had lunch at Sri Krishna Bhavan Restaurant, We had Veg South Indian thali. This was a Pure veg restaurant.
Thanjavur Palace - Then we headed towards Thanjavur Palace
Entry Ticket - Rs 25 per person
This palace is located just one km away from the Big Temple and has served as an important centre for both the Nayak dynasty and the Maratha kingdom. it was built by the Nayaks around 1550 AD and later expanded on by the Marathas between 1676-1855, and thus, is also known as the Maratha Palace.
Today, this palace has been transformed into a museum where visitors can observe old excavation statues on display.
Then we visited the Saraswathi Mahal Library, where we saw many manuscripts written on palm leaves in different languages.
After this, we ended our day

Our maratha has great history
We are happy that our ancestors helped to preserve something of tamil culture love from maharashtra
Jy tamizhan jy maharashtra
but just you people forgot you are also part of south India till 16th century you people ruled south then moved to north !
@@sridharthota4227 yes raje shivaji breaked two mosque in madurai city which were built on temple
raja sambaji also ruled over madurai
To remove Islamic influence but after
That santaji and dhanaji peshwa bajirao ruled on north
It is right
@@sridharthota4227 bro in any case I love south
Marathis have no contribution to this tamil temple, they just came in when there were no tamil rulers and inspired by the shivan temple they built few structures like gate and paintings, don't make false history. It's entirely a tamil kings temple

Yeh tour mein maza nahi aaya Harish ji
@@Purvi71237 Purvi Ji, Places pasand aana aapne aap me ek contest hai, Harish Ji jo place visit kar rhe hai explore kar rhe hai or uski jankari de rhe hai wo ek bdyia kam hai, like mujhe history pasand hai food pasand hai so I like this series. Or sabhi series harish ji bhut efforts se bana rhe hai, So I respect him and his team.
I felt that Thanjavur in itself needs two to three days... Especially Brihadeshwara Temple .. And the other two world UNESCO heritage sites... Also the famous Thanjavur paintings
Thanks Harish ji, we love your channel and content - you must get tourism award from Govt of India 👍
Vrihadeswara Temple is a sculpture of High architecture splendor of thousand of years which will last long. The sculpture of Marco Polo in the temple campus is a wonder by itself. The museum consisting so many stone sculptures of the time shows the richness of stone carvings during the period ✌️
Last year we have visited this temple. All it was written in Tamil. Now, for your detailed info thank you so much. Stunning architecture.
Beautiful tour of Brihadeeshwara temple. Also beautifully explained. Enjoyed this tour. Extraordinary temple architecture.
Wow just wow TY dear Harishji this place is a gem I hope the Indian Govt promotes this place and the locals need to keep the place clean and receptive to non Indians
108 is auspicious number in Jainism and Hinduism both.
Definitely there is connection between these religions.
Very magnificent architecture.one must be lucky enough to see this temple.
True
Great Hindus heritage maintained for centuries.
Wonderful to know hidden unseen treasures of our rich heritage in south india.
Grateful Baliji for such coverage 🙏
I think you missed out three major points. I’m surprised that the tour guide didn’t mention.
1. The viman of main temple is made of single granite with weight of 80 tonnes. It is still unknown how such huge stone brought at the top of the main temple and kept there.
2. Entire temple structure is made of granite stones interlocking. In 1000 years, there were several earthquakes, tsunami, cyclones, floods passed by but it didn’t damage a single things in this temple.
3. The main temple’s viman shade doesn’t fall on ground.
Last not the least, every temple across TN, you will find a demon face with half hands inside his mouth at top of every temple including Maa Meenakshi temple, Rameswaram temple, Brihadeswar temple, all 5 elements of creation Shiva temples, Ranganathswamy temple etc and most of houses (at top of the front gate or entrance).
His name is Krithi mukha, according to Shiva Mahapuran, the sages were disturbing Bhagwan Shiva when he was in medication. So, Bhagwan Shiva created this demon and asked to eat all of them after he ate all then he kept on asking what he will eat further, then Bhagwan Shiva told him eat yourself. He obeyed Bhagwan Shiva’s order Abd started eating himself. When Bhagwan Shiva saw him, he almost eat his entire body and only left with his face and both hands which he was eating.
Bhagwan Shiva gave him blessings that you will be worshiped at the top of every temple and houses.
Wow sir, good piece of information there.....thanks for expanding my knowledge 🙂😄
@@sriramsankar8958 You are welcome. I have little knowledge about Brihadeswar temple (Big Temple) and its history. I was witnessed when I visited with my parents in December'23.
Harishji, as you said missed "Dharasuram" world heritage site.
It will take minimum 5 hours to know the intricacies of the temple.
Gangai konda cholapuram will be a great visit.
Wow very beautiful, our Hindustan's great history. Om Namaha Shivaya......
अदभुत है इस मंदिर का निर्माण।
प्राचीन भारत में गणित, विज्ञान और कला बहुत विकसित था।

Hi Harish: Very nice video of the Thanjavur Brihadeeswara Temple. This temple is an architectural wonder and it is a testament to the builders that it is still standing tall, after a thousand years. Early on when you asked what the Nayak king was wearing on his head, the guide mentioned "kreedam" meaning a crown. I believe the army of celestial beings under Lord Shiva are called "Shiv Ganas" (pronounced "gaNaas").
What a surprise temple had made in just, 6 year, that's great अर्किटेक्❤❤. इस जगह के वारे मे बहुत कुछ जानकारी मिली😊😊.Great episode👍👍
Such a beautiful history and architecture of Tanjavur.... very nicely explained.... very informative video...
Magnificent architecture of brihadeshwara temple
Ancient architecture in South Indian states is absolutely magnificent.
asadharan Brihadeswara mandir aur mandir ka sthapatya shaili, bagaban Shibjika apurba murtiya, mandir ke chad me anokha chitrakala, bauhat sundar palace me rakhkhi gayi murtiya, asadharan rajdarbar ki karukarya, khubsurat granthagar aur uske chad me anokha chitrakala
During the reign of the Pallava dynasty (Tamil Kingdom) which ruled over the areas that currently belong to Andhra Pradesh and northern Tamil Nadu, the Telugu language was not in use. It was only after the 9th century that the Telugu language started to gain prominence and became a widely spoken language in the Andra region. Tamil literature refers to Telugu language as a dialect with tougher pronunciations.
😂😂😂😂 narrow minded linguistic biased guy can't digest truth... read properly history pallavas r Telugu kings.. just by changing tiruchirapalli to Trichy nd chennapatnam to Chennai can't change history.... there r almost 2 crore Telugu people in TN... don't forget vijayanagara Empire saved u From madurai sultans..or else ur history' would have been different
😂😂😂😂😂If there are 2 crore Telugu speakers in Tamil Nadu, where have all the Tamils gone? Pallavas followed Tamil and Jain religion. So they used Tamil and Prakrit language. Go read history @@aravindroy6640
@@aravindroy6640pallavas are telugus🤡🤡🤡,more over who are giving data like telugus are 2cr, DMK are telugus but why they are fear to expose caste wise population census ,reason in current dmk half of telugu speakers are more in ma,mla posts compare to native tamil people that's the reason why they are afraid to expose caste wise census ,if it comes telugus real population will be come out🤡🤡🤡
बहुत सुंदर
हरीश जी आपकी वजह से इतना सुंदर मंदिर आज देखने मीला आपका बहुत बहुत धन्यवाद 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Harish ji's travel videos are a real treat! They're especially delightful because of their simplicity and how much he himself seems to truly relish every aspect of his journeys, from savoring local cuisines to engaging with new people. His positive energy is infectious, brightening up my day every time I watch his videos!
thank you for sharing with us this amazingly beautiful temple
Great content and Thanks for taking Tour Guide and explaining in detail. Wish he would have talked more about the history and how it's built. It was an enigma for years on how this Temple was built. Hope you get to visit other two great temples sometime later.. They are marvelous. @Cholas - Thank you again Harish Ji!
Wow beautiful video and explanation. Marvelous architecture and rich cultural heritage. Tanjavur ❤
Hi Harish, you have captured it well although there is lot more details to the temple and Chola dynasty. I had spent 3 days there and feel it’s not enough to know the history. Sad thing is there is widespread vandalism in the palace with people recklessly writing on walls. Hope the government takes notice urgently and maintains the place. Thanks for your Bharath Darshan

Belur, Halebidu and Somnathpur temples are now UNESCO World Heritage sites. It is 1000+ yrs old and known for architecture marvel.. Built by Hoysala king Vishnuvardana. Shravanabelagola is proposed for UNESCO World Heritage site recognition
