I have noticed a slight change in the attitude of shippers, receivers, and DOT towards me lately becoming more positive and civil. After dealing with all the foreigners who can't communicate with them effectively, they see me walk in with a clean appearance...boots, jeans and a professional attitude and its like a breath of fresh air to them.
I used to teach at a truck school and had tried to weed out the students that couldn't read and barely spoke English. The head of the school said "It didn't matter because they paid the tuition. " I had to leave as I saw it for what it really was, "a CDL factory!"
I was at a dock and 4 trucks pulled in to deliver from Tracy Ca. Only one could back up the trailers. He did every one in rotation. He wore a Sabre across his chest. He said it is part of my religion, it had to be 18” long and sharp. We were about 5 ft apart. I pulled up my sweatshirt and his eyes got as big as saucers. I said this is part of my religion 😂
In Canada when they write the first part of the test they are allowed to have someone to "help" translate for them, and when I was training, there was times I had to use to google translate to get my point across, this was about four years ago now so I can imagine how much worse it has gotten

I like to know, while the DOT goes out of its way to bust law abiding truckers over not having windshield wiper fluid in the bottle. How often do the DOT bust drivers that cannot read or speak English? I believe this is known as selective enforcement.

There was a tow truck driver killed on l 64 around Morehead Kentucky by a foriegn driver who was watching RUclips videos on a tablet going down the road .There are to many drivers OTR anymore who can't speak or read English. They drive for lower pay and have way to easy of a time getting into trucking.The industry has gone to crap and as long as companies hire these type of drivers its only going to get worse

You missed the boat on this . Where were you back in the early 2000s ? The steering-wheel-holders have been out there for decades . It's all about the "truck driving schools" making money. They do not even try to teach people the proper way to drive a truck ! And , the make of truck , be it Freightliner , Kenworth , Peterbilt , Volvo or whatever it is has absolutely no bearing on the situation.
As far as the trucker at 9:20, many many times I've chosen the most difficult spot to back into on purpose, to keep my backing skills sharp. If you always choose the easiest spots, whenever you get somewhere with NO easy spots left, you'll be in trouble.
Exactly, I started seeing this with dump truck drivers years ago working for a big road contractor. And somehow these non English speaking people were given loans to buy new dump trucks while real Americans were driving garbage.
Exactly. If these boneheaded truckers would’ve payed attention they would’ve known that the tunnel just south of there the i10 tunnel is tall enough for big trucks like that. So they would not have had an issue if they’d just payed attention. Or learn to read in American English which I’d highly doubt they know to read American English. If you are going to drive whether it be in a car or heavy equipment like a semi you should know how to read a frickin sign in the USA. Their is a full blown underground movement by India, Pakistan, Russia n the rest to get their "people" over here to live the"american dream" they are even buying truck stops to support their own. I have pulled into 1 and everything inside was pakistani. Writing on menu for food to signage on inside of building, even had the nasty curry smell to the place.

The corporation or shipping company that does the hiring needs to be held responsible for its drivers. That means paying for all damages and assistance. Bridges, trains, railway, roads, police, fire, towing, medical, hospital and anything else I forgot should be paid by whoever hired the driver. Taxpayers should not have to foot the bill for infrastructure and public services. Corporate big wigs need to accept responsible.
In regards to the training.. I went to Roadmaster in Jacksonville FL 2yrs ago. There were probably 25 people in my class, out of those 25 I would say at the very least 8 of them should not have gotten their CDL BUT somehow all of them did. It's pretty terrifying tbh. It's all about the money..
And road master is owned and run by werner enterprises. Just shows they want the money more then putting quality drivers out on the road. They got rid of most of the best talent they had years ago.

I was at a shipper and came up to a driver that couldn't speak English he had to use his cell phone translate to speak to the shipper. Do you think he understands what it's says on road signs?
Quite putting information out in other languages for study, and govt papers. THEY Must be in english, english only. You must be able to read, write, and speak in english which is comprehensible. No point in penalizing someone who works hard, to learn the language, culture and assimulating into a industry.
And that's a long shot. I have a uncle here legally since the 80s, and he still can't speak or understand English. My father actually gave effort and can hold a conversation.

Up in western PA rolled into the TA in Milesburg yesterday & this box truck guy was out in the parking lot, ratchet strapping the walls of his box truck. His roof was GONE & the back right side of the box truck was ripped down the corner. I wish I had taken a video or a picture of it. Shit was hilarious!! A foreigner, with flip flops on. Have no clue wtf he hit but he fucked that truck up

Long Island NY here. Land of the parkways and low bridges. Saw a tractor trailer on the Wantagh Pkwy on the end of the entrance ramp. Decided to go talk to the driver. Asked ''Didn't you see all the signs ?'' He said ''No speak English'' I guess he is also blind since there was a big yellow 9' 8'' clearance sign with flashing lights on it too. Im trying my best to get out of this industry. Things like this and you have people like me that have a clean MVR for the past 17 years worth of driving experience. These big trucking companies want to lie about hone time, wages, and/or equipment mistreating the good ones and hiring these morons. I just called it quits and retired a little early after 40 years of driving, 9 over the road then the rest as a local. both my dad and my grandpop were truckers and back then I was proud to follow in their footsteps. over the early year I made a good honest living, didn't get rich but made good money that gave me and my family a good life. most important I met so many good people along the way. can't even count up all the good drivers both male and female I've got to know through the years. but the last 7 maybe 8 years like everybody I saw the change coming. the career I was so proud of has become a joke and it's just a damn shame. safe travels to all you old schoolers out there.

The amount of drivers who leave their truck at the fuel island while they go take a shower and play with themselves inside the building with 20 other trucks behind them waiting to get fuel is absolutely crazy. I retired from trucking in 2008 , after more than 30 years in the business . I am glad that I left trucking when I did . The new regulations and mandates were written by people that have never spent a day making their living in a truck , and do not have a clue what it takes to make the industry work . The trucking industry can not be fixed until the government is gotten out of it , and the "mega-fleets" are cut down to where the real owner-operators can get the rares and expenses back under control. The NHTSA and the ATA need to be removed from the equation , and not have any authority to make rules or influence law makers. Lobbyists have no vested interest other than what money they can skim off of the top of the back of the working hands in the field . Give the trucking industry back to the people that are "boots-on-the-ground" , who are actually doing the work in the field !!!!
You’re right the schools don’t teach much, they just teach to the test and you get minimal road hours. They don’t teach you in order to get a job. That’s why you have to go over- the -road first. I went to a school that has a trucking company and they won’t hire you until you have 2 years experience.
Left trucking after 6 years OTR last month. I’m done with this job forever. What a miserable job that is, never again. I parked the truck at the company yard under a load, got in my car and never looked back.

The problem started about 20 years ago when the government opened trucking up to foreigners that brought all their bad driving habits from their respective countries. Not saying all Are bad drivers but most in my experience. Additionally they also bring all their bad living habits.
They don't bathe or brush their teeth. I was with a Haitian "trainer" for 5 days...did not stop for us to shower. He had NO change of clothes, a tooth brush, nor a fridge. I am waiting for someone else to finish my refresher time. Oh, he drove in flip flops of course, and tailgates the living fuck out of everyone and reckless af.
It's alot of the mega carriers poor training, 3-4 weeks here's your liscense now your the publics problem but safety is our #1 concern. Go to any of their terminals and see how many totaled new trucks are there, not all of it is mega carriers but they are a big part of it.
Biggest problem is that the companies have a policy of any warm body in the seat . They don’t care if they have experience or not , just as long as one or two loads get delivered and they figure hell we made money, these people don’t know enough to even complain about how little money they make and who’s going to get hurt
I got a level 1 inspection in Mojave ca 58 w asked Mrs Dotson how many drivers does she pull in and bust without a class A lic her words was to many for me to believe 😮😮😮😮
What's the fix if you get into that situation other than run into the tunnel? Take that sideroad to the right? Sometimes there's truck turn around areas for those situations
There's lots of stuff to pick on other drivers in the industry for but I say if a driver is just using a squeegee to clean the inside or outside of their Windows I say that's okay they're using it to clean the glass and they're not washing their truck with it
I used to live there. There's all kinds of signs for that tunnel. It goes under the water of the industrial canal. I used to drive a tanker and we had to get on a barge that would take us from Pinto island over to the ship yards. Because you can't go through the Underwater tunnels he's lucky he didn't make it in there.He would have got stuck. The tunnel is basically an oval and that's a big tall square he would. Have been in all kinds of trouble. 🚔
I was a trainer for a semi large carrier in 14-15 and I saw first hand 3 students sent to me that came from a large school in Florida all 3 had just came to the US within 6 months and had their CDL 2 never had a license in their country 1 barely spoke English the other 2 spoke decent all 3 again had 1 common denominator the school in Florida had 3rd party testing and pushed them through. Long story short this is an ongoing situation that no one seems to care about
Not at all one seemed to just be a natural he went through our school and 10yrs later is still trucking and happy the other 2 were out of my truck within a day or two with the option to retrain or go home …they went home
I went through CDL school 2 years ago. There was a group of 15 Hispanics of which only one could understand English. Through him I discovered that if you are a first time citizen the government will pay for your CDL school.

The 1st that needs to be fixed is these schools pumping out crap drivers. Obviously they know ehat there releasing out on the road, someone needs to check them at that. I think If that gets corrected other issues will start to go away.

Up in western PA rolled into the TA in Milesburg yesterday & this box truck guy was out in the parking lot, ratchet strapping the walls of his box truck. His roof was GONE & the back right side of the box truck was ripped down the corner. I wish I had taken a video or a picture of it. Shit was hilarious!! A foreigner, with flip flops on. Have no clue wtf he hit but he fucked that truck up
If DOT officers admit there is nothing they can do what the hell can a driver do? ATA big box companies are now using these foreigners as contractors. Last generation of the American truck driver is on the road now.
Long Island NY here. Land of the parkways and low bridges. Saw a tractor trailer on the Wantagh Pkwy on the end of the entrance ramp. Decided to go talk to the driver. Asked ''Didn't you see all the signs ?'' He said ''No speak English'' I guess he is also blind since there was a big yellow 9' 8'' clearance sign with flashing lights on it too. I'll send Ike the video. OH ....he was wearing shoes.

Dude in cdl class could barely speak English. Took the cdl test 5 different times. He finally passed and started with covenant last week.

Im trying my best to get out of this industry. Things like this and you have people like me that have a clean MVR for the past 17 years worth of driving experience. These big trucking companies want to lie about hone time, wages, and/or equipment mistreating the good ones and hiring these morons. Truckers are the most grossly underpaid based on how much this country relies on us and as far as im concerned, the people complicit in allowing this stuff are going to get what they deserve.

watching these clowns in these videos almost make me glad to be old. I just called it quits and retired a little early after 40 years of driving, 9 over the road then the rest as a local. both my dad and my grandpop were truckers and back then I was proud to follow in their footsteps. over the early year I made a good honest living, didn't get rich but made good money that gave me and my family a good life. most important I met so many good people along the way. can't even count up all the good drivers both male and female I've got to know through the years. but the last 7 maybe 8 years like everybody I saw the change coming. the career I was so proud of has become a joke and it's just a damn shame. safe travels to all you old schoolers out there.

I retired from trucking in 2008 , after more than 30 years in the business .
I am glad that I left trucking when I did . The new regulations and mandates were written by people that have never spent a day making their living in a truck , and do not have a clue what it takes to make the industry work .
The trucking industry can not be fixed until the government is gotten out of it , and the "mega-fleets" are cut down to where the real owner-operators can get the rares and expenses back under control.
The NHTSA and the ATA need to be removed from the equation , and not have any authority to make rules or influence law makers. Lobbyists have no vested interest other than what money they can skim off of the top of the back of the working hands in the field .
Give the trucking industry back to the people that are "boots-on-the-ground" , who are actually doing the work in the field !!!!
You’re right the schools don’t teach much, they just teach to the test and you get minimal road hours. They don’t teach you in order to get a job. That’s why you have to go over- the -road first. I went to a school that has a trucking company and they won’t hire you until you have 2 years experience.

The problem started about 20 years ago when the government opened trucking up to foreigners that brought all their bad driving habits from their respective countries. Not saying all Are bad drivers but most in my experience. Additionally they also bring all their bad living habits.
They don't bathe or brush their teeth. I was with a Haitian "trainer" for 5 days...did not stop for us to shower. He had NO change of clothes, a tooth brush, nor a fridge. I am waiting for someone else to finish my refresher time.

It's alot of the mega carriers poor training, 3-4 weeks here's your liscense now your the publics problem but safety is our #1 concern. Go to any of their terminals and see how many totaled new trucks are there, not all of it is mega carriers but they are a big part of it.

Biggest problem is that the companies have a policy of any warm body in the seat . They don’t care if they have experience or not , just as long as one or two loads get delivered and they figure hell we made money, these people don’t know enough to even complain about how little money they make and who’s going to get hurt

There's lots of stuff to pick on other drivers in the industry for but I say if a driver is just using a squeegee to clean the inside or outside of their Windows I say that's okay they're using it to clean the glass and they're not washing their truck with it

I used to live there. There's all kinds of signs for that tunnel. It goes under the water of the industrial canal. I used to drive a tanker and we had to get on a barge that would take us from Pinto island over to the ship yards. Because you can't go through the Underwater tunnels he's lucky he didn't make it in there.He would have got stuck. The tunnel is basically an oval and that's a big tall square he would. Have been in all kinds of trouble. 🚔
I was a trainer for a semi large carrier in 14-15 and I saw first hand 3 students sent to me that came from a large school in Florida all 3 had just came to the US within 6 months and had their CDL 2 never had a license in their country 1 barely spoke English the other 2 spoke decent all 3 again had 1 common denominator the school in Florida had 3rd party testing and pushed them through. Long story short this is an ongoing situation that no one seems to care about

Not at all one seemed to just be a natural he went through our school and 10yrs later is still trucking and happy the other 2 were out of my truck within a day or two with the option to retrain or go home …they went home
I went through CDL school 2 years ago. There was a group of 15 Hispanics of which only one could understand English. Through him I discovered that if you are a first time citizen the government will pay for your CDL school.

The 1st that needs to be fixed is these schools pumping out crap drivers. Obviously they know ehat there releasing out on the road, someone needs to check them at that. I think If that gets corrected other issues will start to go away.
A lot if these schools just pump out licenses because they just take the students money and barely trains them
