I think the biggest improvement of this over the KT21 starter is that you can get the full rules for the kill teams without hitting the secondary market to get the Octarius book. The full official rules for the teams are going to be on the app and website which is a massive improvement over KT21. You can actually pick up this box and have everything you need to play the full game.
The team rules are free on the website/app, but the game rules are only the “light” version. You’ll still need to buy/acquire the full core rules from elsewhere. So this starter set is good if you want the models, but not as complete as Hivestorm
@@iank1419 true. Hivestorm also has the barricades and razor wire etc which is important. But in terms of being able to learn to play and then show up at an event, not having the team rules for the old edition was a killer; this has shortcomings (in particular not having the full game rules (though I guess we'll have to see how incomplete this lite rules version is) but actual rules for all the models is still a step up.
@@retnuHDJ from my limited experiece the retail price might actually be even lower (10%) depending on your online shop. At least it was with the Hivestorm box. MSRP was 150ish€ and I could've picked up the box for 135€.
@@scepteredisle I didn't think the existing Kill Team starter set included the full rules, but a cut down version much like this new starter set? And while the plastic terrain in the current one is definitely better than MDF, it wasn't enough for an actual game of Kill Team (there was no heavy terrain at all and only a few bits of light terrain). Also worth mentioning that Vet Guard really needed 14 operatives to be competitive, so while it was a valid team, it was far from complete. In terms of plastic to price ratio though, the new one is undeniably less value, but overall I think it's going to be a better starter set for new players. I think people being pleased that this new starter will be the same price says more about our expectations of GW and their price hikes
@@retnuHDJ the old starter set had the full rules, the book itself was just smaller in size (which at the table might actually be preferred). But not all team rules. You had to get the separate octarius book for all the ploys etcetera. So you couldn't really pick up and play a complete game with it. But I think this ones extremely good for newbies. You can just crank these push-fit models of the sprue, put em together in 30min and toss the mdf-terrain on the board, and start playing. Starting anything 40k has rarely been this simple.
Frankly, your expectations were unrealistic, then. The Battletech Alpha Strike box comes with 13 Mechs, so a similar number of minis. Although they’re not as nice as the Marine Heroes ones. And actual factual cardboard boxes for buildings. And it’s still $80.
@@mjames70 the reason I thought it would be cheaper was bc the terrain isn’t plastic but lightweight wood, I thought the price would have been under 100, I wasn’t expecting another 12 on top of that. Maybe I was having unrealistic expectations.
@infinitedm5396 actually it still isn't. It's plastic bits. They'll always be overpriced. If we can 3d printer them for less than a buck a piece I know gw can do them for pennies but because ppl think that just because it's always been over priced everything is ok.
@chiffonshrimp94 You were right about the value and what Should be true. You just gave GW too much credit for not being Greed Pigs and jumping at the chance to screw customers with Shrinkflation. They jammed this in a standard "Starter" price despite having way less than half the plastic of the 40K starter.
The price isn't completely hateful, I'll probably pick this up. I already have 2 sets of the DG Heroes I got from Japan but I love these models so much and at that price the DG Heros are worth it alone compared to what we paid previously to sellers from Japan.
I think this is a good value for a starter set, easy to build models, easy to build terrain that you don’t need to paint, elite teams that are easier to manage, and the rules. If I was starting out this would be a no brainer, I’m picking one up for sure
The only thing that I think is somewhat interesting to consider with the MDF terrain is that, for a game like Kill team it would 'benefit' GW to produce a Tournament pack of MDF components that are designed for KT comp play. Which would be strange. I could see something like that happening though.
It would be pretty cool if GW did their own mdf comp terrain that actually fit their Pariah Nexus pack. Could easily and cheaply change the layout and artwork each year. I'd be down for it. For KT? I think it's great for starters, and much like 40k I'd be cool with it as a comp map too. I really haven't played much KT without vantage points, but hey, ITD exists so I'm sure it would be fine
This is probably the best beginner gw thing I’ve seen. It’s the complete game of kill team unlike other starter sets where it’s not even combat patrol or spearhead size so it’s not the full experience. Having the cheaper terrain I think works for the starter, push fit is great for new and younger players. The 2E starter didn’t feel like it was meant to grab new players and was relying on the necron/Amarine paint kit to be the first product which doesn’t make a lot of sense for people who want to play a game.
I 100% don't need this, but will most likely get it. Heck, it's two (!!) kill tems. Also, it would be neat if those MDF terrain bits could produce a vantage point (literally, just the third piece to fit horizontally)
I was going to buy the Space Marines in this box for £60 themselves the other week, luckily I held off. If the price stays or is actually £67.50, it sounds good. Definitely if you can pick it up at a discount from your local hobby shop etc.
GW could release more chaos SM factions for KT this edition. The Death Guard heroes box was actually pretty perfect for KT, so Im a bit suprised they didnt get the KT treatment last edition before the Strikeforce Justian team ever came out. We have the Nightlords now, and I would assume later on in this edtion we get another lesser chaos SM faction, maybe Alpha legion or Iron Warriors. Perhaps get a updated kit for havocs with an Iron Warriors sprue or maybe get a new run of heroes blind boxes but with Tsons or World Eaters
Picked up a box of Death Guard when GW did the second run of those. Think I'm in for at least one starter box over it's lifespan, those Death Guard Heroes sculpts are incredibly handy for adding a second pose of various weapon options that you would otherwise be having twins in a unit when double dipping the same wargear. Always happy to have some alternate sculpts to drop into Primaris units, especially when so many of the basic bodies I'm working up from are 8th edition monopose sculpts sourced cheaply from Conquest and stockpiled. About fiftyish from second party retailers sounds fine to me.
MDF terrain is great for the starter set. This whole starter set seems to be oriented towards getting ready to play quickly, which is great! You could pop the models together with no tools, no glue, and play with them unpainted in just a few minutes.
For rules I'd speculate that they somehow stink up the board similar to 40k. Maybe some sort of debuffing contagion aura around certain things? Maybe a x" (like 2" or 3") bubble around every Marine and some way to either plonk down tokens that do the same or infecting existing stuff (enemy operatives, objectives...) through equipment, ploys and specialist abilities.
This would make a nice Christmas gift for younger players thats playable out of the box. That the models were previously a premium product is a nice bonus.
I would say maybe you don't have to buy another box but with AOD being justian and Intercessors maybe GW puts something in the starter set that "Here's your first models for Angels of Death, Want to add additional optional loadouts? Buy intercessors and assault intercessors" and "Here's you first plague Marines, if you want the additional optional loadouts buy some plague Marines"
Better value for playability and the artificial scarcity created by GW in the first place. It'll be bought by existing KT and 40K players and be an awful missed opportunity to bring in new players from outside the dedicated wargame retailers. GW would still make a profit selling these for 45 pounds, and a $75 price point and a 12x16 footprint would have placed it as a complete game onto shelves of big box stores like Target in time for the holidays. Instead of expanding their reach, they've chosen the path of Shrinkflation. Classic GW.
$75 to $80 would have been a perfect price point. They could even do cheaper and make it a loss leader but GW seems allergic to actually investing in customers.
@scepteredisle As it is, it for sure isn't. I don't know what price point would make it one, but I agree they have lots of room to lower before it is one.
@@tmmonica117 haha, I've moved out of there now since I moved into my new place. That was only temporary as I had to live with my parents, aka, the ultimate thrift!

As gw says. It’s your game use what ever rules you want to add/remove from your tables. Use which ever maps you want with the rules that you want to apply to them. I’ve got tokens for all sorts over the years and I use them for what ever makes sense.
I think them putting MDF into the box is gonna start something they didn't expect :P There are many MDF companies out there with cheap, and easy terrain other than their pricey plastic terrain.

For being GW prices, I would say it is great value and convenience if you want the two Heroes Teams. And say what you want about MDF but having an already painted and easily stored terrain option is a win in my book.
Watching this now. I think its better value because of the 2 elite teams. 2x beginner friendly teams. Hoping the the how to build your full elites is on the horrizon hahahaha.
The Astartes KT rules are already up and won’t change, they’re a six man team basically smashing the options for the old Justian & Intercession KT together. You have to take the sniper OR the heavy bolter can’t take both. So the models in this set work.
I think it’s a better product for new players, the terrain is more usable and the angels of death at least are good for new players. Value is such a subjective thing but for me I’ll probs get it just for the teams
Don't know why everyone is excited about the MDF terrain, the one in the box is not really useful for Kill Team at all and not really being compatible with the plastic terrain you cannot really expand on it either even if a larger MDF set with 3D terrain (is it should be for KT) comes out the terrain in the set will just be additional barricades rather than adding to that and if people hope for cheap pre-painted MDF terrain, we already have that and I doubt if there is a stand alone release it won't be expansive
I'd never really considered the crossover in similarity in actual playstyles beyond just "spreads disease", I'm a Deathguard/Nurgle main and a Death Knight main in TWW.... called Typhus xD
@@GlassHalfDead I'm Unholy main for life, so Typhus works reall well with the diseases and "poxwalkers", did get lucky with the name, originally it had some funky letters, but someone in my guild pointed out that a few days after the start of TWW they "released" a load of names that were on characters not played for over a certain amount of time or on closed accounts. So immediately logged out and checked the availability - so grabbed Typhus xD Completely unrelatedly, we also have a Mortation DK in our guild (though with funky dots and lines over all of the vowels)
40K player looking to start kill team… so I did care about the price, anything north of $150 was going to be too much. Scout squad going to $80 still upsets me
Its not a bad price. Its also not a good price either. Like I don't feel like I am getting ripped off for it but I also don't feel as if I am saving tons of money
I think they are complete teams (lots of models here for an elite team right?), but there are probably more options that these mono-pose models can't deliver.
i don't like that it's not the aquilons and vespid in the set, i don't mind the terrain but i feel like there should be more of it, i'm not a fan of them just sticking in the death guard space marine heroes models and warhammer heroes models
All I'm hoping for is that the tokens are cardboard and on a punch-out sheet, unlike the 40K "Ultimate Starter Set" ones on a sheet of paper that you have to cut out yourself 😒
Oh I didn't realise that the tokens in the 40k one were paper. I imagine they'll be cardboard. It's almost more work for them to print an additional item than just including the token sheet they already have (I imagine)
Does the new starter come with the full core rules? I know last edition came with full core rules (in a nice travel friendly smaller book) and more plastic. Would of liked to see it sub $100 but is what it is. If it doesn't come with full core rules I feel like it's trash compared to last edition. IMO
@@fredclasson7865 full core rules or just full rules for the teams? ATM they only have the lite core rules in the app but it would be awesome (if unlikely) they added the full core.
You can! They are generic marines and you can make them whatever you want. Any loyalist chapter, and chaos god, whatever you fancy! As long as it's on the right base size (as shown in the app), you're gold.

Watching this now. I think its better value because of the 2 elite teams. 2x beginner friendly teams. Hoping the the how to build your full elites is on the horrizon hahahaha.
Reasonable price hello
day one purchase
for me the value is better because i will actually play both of these teams.
67.50 is absolute inconsistency that its the same price as the warcry starter set, but the difference between the two boxes is insane
Ok, but what is it in freedom dollars?
112 bucks.
@@derpstick5467 Thank you.
I would have liked to see the cost stay at $100 but $112 isn't that big of a deal. Seems like a great value to get into the game.
I agree that pushing over 100 seems a bit meh just from optics.
Thats really good value.
I think it's a great value! Cheers
Are space marines going to come 7 in a box now for kill team or only for starter set
The Astartes KT rules are already up and won’t change, they’re a six man team basically smashing the options for the old Justian & Intercession KT together.
You have to take the sniper OR the heavy bolter can’t take both. So the models in this set work.
great pricing can get two teams and some extra bits
Still a lot of money for a box of plastic and fake wood, but for GW, not bad. I shall buy, assuming they actually make enough for once. Thanks Andy.
I think I have just ended up with expensive tastes, but Infinity, Shatterpoint, Warmachine are no cheaper!
I think it’s a better product for new players, the terrain is more usable and the angels of death at least are good for new players.
Value is such a subjective thing but for me I’ll probs get it just for the teams
Don't know why everyone is excited about the MDF terrain, the one in the box is not really useful for Kill Team at all and not really being compatible with the plastic terrain you cannot really expand on it either
even if a larger MDF set with 3D terrain (is it should be for KT) comes out the terrain in the set will just be additional barricades rather than adding to that
and if people hope for cheap pre-painted MDF terrain, we already have that and I doubt if there is a stand alone release it won't be expansive
112 is OK. Probably a better deal than the war cry or underworlds. Lot less models than 40k or aos.
I'd never really considered the crossover in similarity in actual playstyles beyond just "spreads disease", I'm a Deathguard/Nurgle main and a Death Knight main in TWW.... called Typhus xD
Great name grab in wow! I prefer the frost vibes, more lich king to me!
So immediately logged out and checked the availability - so grabbed Typhus xD
Completely unrelatedly, we also have a Mortation DK in our guild (though with funky dots and lines over all of the vowels)
Looks like good value to me.
I hope the logo on those terrain sheets is cut out.
@@jeffhoffman4352 that would be sweet actually yeah
So... do we have a release date?
No idea yet :(
How much Australian?
It’s the same price as dark tide game. £67 or $112
Darktide was overpriced for what it was. This at least doesn't feel quite as bad of a mistake.
40K player looking to start kill team… so I did care about the price, anything north of $150 was going to be too much. Scout squad going to $80 still upsets me
Hello, yes!!
Do you know if the solo rules are in the starter set ?
We don't know what the starter book contains yet :/
Where did you get the banner in the background?
That's from one of my many poor purchasing decisions. The rogue trader crpg limited edition box.
Quadruple HELLO!
I prefer the models and for the price I will definitely pick it up
Its not a bad price. Its also not a good price either. Like I don't feel like I am getting ripped off for it but I also don't feel as if I am saving tons of money
for GW that's not bad.
Im wondering if these are 2 complete kill teams or will you need to go out and buy more kits to fill out complete teams?
You'll need more models for Angels of Death for sure to have all the options
@@Erstey thanks that's a big help
I think they are complete teams (lots of models here for an elite team right?), but there are probably more options that these mono-pose models can't deliver.
@@fredclasson7865 The only model not featured is the Assault Intercessor Sergeant. but he's not really needed if you're taking the Captain.
DOUBLE HELLO LETS GO!
Comfy wow music
So it's more expensive than the last starter set...
It's the same price as the last set after the across-the-board price rises. Third Parties will knock between 10 & 20% off it too.
I really only care that it has both team my son and I want to play
i don't like that it's not the aquilons and vespid in the set, i don't mind the terrain but i feel like there should be more of it, i'm not a fan of them just sticking in the death guard space marine heroes models and warhammer heroes models
Any idea how much in US Dollars?
100 bucks like last time
Hella good value... especially considering the prices for those Space Marines heroes blind boxes!
LOL hobo aesthetic ftw
Does the new starter come with the full core rules?
I know last edition came with full core rules (in a nice travel friendly smaller book) and more plastic. Would of liked to see it sub $100 but is what it is.
If it doesn't come with full core rules I feel like it's trash compared to last edition. IMO
From what I understand no. The article mentioned full rules in the app
@@fredclasson7865 full core rules or just full rules for the teams? ATM they only have the lite core rules in the app but it would be awesome (if unlikely) they added the full core.
Make it 60.... done deal
I think they will be 5" move.
That makes much more sense as that's their speed in 40k, so yeah!
does it contain tacops?
Can I make those space marines into salamanders?
You can! They are generic marines and you can make them whatever you want. Any loyalist chapter, and chaos god, whatever you fancy! As long as it's on the right base size (as shown in the app), you're gold.
£67? So that translates to, what? 400 Australian?
I got the previous edition starter set for 10€ cheaper, so not worth it
£67.50
So super cheap starter with MDF terrain... did they stole a page from Corvus Belli's playbook? Their new Infinity starter coming in November and is exactly that - super cheap (40$), MDF terrain, etc.
Figure $100 USD? That's not a terrible price.
112 based on the current prices for the 40k, Sigmar, and other starter sets
@@BanzaiM50 hmmm, not a great value, but not insane. I get a discount at my LGS so it'll be ~$100
Less models, less plastic, same price. Like every GW product lately it's just more of a rip off than the last equivalent product.
Well I play all GW games so thats not completely true XD
And yet another new GW scam...and yet again the fanboys are cheering...😂
I think GW has eroded all concept of value for its customers.
