So Marchi-Mobile re-invented the Colani truck, interesting. Luigi Colani was a legendary designer of all sorts of things, he also designed several semi trucks. The cab of this Marchi-Mobile is 100% identical to Colani's DAF Aero 3000... ✌️
The WR8 was not the fastest truck of the 1950s. That was the Mercedes 'Blue Wonder', which was used to transport race cars and parts for the Mercedes racing team. The truck was powered by the engine from a 300SL, and was capable of a top speed of 170 km/h.
The Willeme-Michelin WR8 information is wrong. WR8 was the internal Code within Michelin for the truck; the truck itself was a Willeme LC810 (or LD810, I am not sure now), meaning an 8-cylinder engine on the LC or LD chassis. It was not powered by a gasoline engine, but by the famous Willeme 517-8 8-cylinder Diesel engine, 18L capacity. Restoration started in 1999, and might have ended in 2005 when Michelin took over the project. Worth noting: 2 brake rotors from a DS were fitted on the driveshaft between the gearbox and the axle, with a heat-extraction conduit above it. The rotors were so powerful that the drive shaft splines were twisted by a few degrees and the heat-extraction conduit had burnt paint on the bottom portion.
The fastest truck of the 1950s was the hauler for the Mercedes racing team to haul their sl300 racecar. The truck had the same engine as the racecar, and and supposedly achieved ridiculous speeds for the time while travelling the Autobahn, en route to Le Mans in 1955 (it was one of these haulers that came back to Germany empty, after their car was involved in the worst crash in motorsports history)
Speaking of the 1985 Paris-Dakar rally, that was the debut of Czechoslovak LIAZ trucks. Out of 56 trucks in this competition 1985, LIAZ participated for the first time. This is two 4x4 units. They were 80% serial types. Modifications were only the improvement of air filters for dusty environments, more headlights and reinforcement of the cabin in case of overturning of the vehicle and special tires to sand. 257kW 6-cylinder in-line diesel with turbocharging, gearbox, axles and chassis are standard taken from the most powerful serial type. In the first stage, these teams took 5th and 6th place in the truck category, both LIAZ vehicles completed the entire competition, while only a quarter of the total number of vehicles completed the competition, i.e. in trucks acuuratelly 20 vehicles out of 56 completed to end. The first crew finished 14th and the second crew was disqualified due to the withdrawal of one crew member, a Frenchman who was a brand representative for the French importer, who had a mental problem, meaning that the car finished the competition but with only two persons. For the fact that they only knew this competition from magazines, they did very well. They were the first trucks in this competition from the countries of the Iron Curtain. It was a shock to the racers from the west, who did not understand who he was and thought that in Czechoslovakia people live without hot water in bamboo huts without electricity, so it was a shock how far they are with the production of trucks there. You know propaganda is, and even then it was with you and the confrontation with reality was shocking. In 1986, several crews from the mentioned country participated with LIAZ 4x4 and Tatra 6x6 vehicles, and some of them finished in second and third place. The overall best truck over 6 tons of cargo in II. after the Second World War, many experts recommend the Tatra 111, which was still better in many parameters in the 1960s, especially in terms of reliability, cross-country ability and the ability to work even at temperatures below -40°C tested in Siberia. However, your propaganda will hardly admit it.
At that time, emission standards and particulate filters etc. were still largely unknown, as were fuel-saving designs 😂. Related to the WR8, what an incredible machine :)
I knew the Van Staden brothers in Bloemfontein, RSA. They built the Zambezi dam and took all their plant back to Bloemfontein. Among their vintage trucks was a 1948 AutoCar prime mover, in which they told me one of their drivers had been clocked by the police at 120mph. I had no reason to disbelieve these fine old chaps.
IN THE LATE 1960s , THE KENWORTH DART TRUCK COMPANY IN KANSAS CITY BUILT A SUPER HAUL DUMP TRUCK-USING GENERAL ELECTRIC WHEEL TRACTION MOTOR, POWERED BY A 7 - FLD V-8 LOCOMOTIVE ENGINE!
Marchi / EleMMent “has a strong presence in the U.S.”? I live in the U.S., in a hugely popular state for R.V’s and read hundreds of articles per year about trucks, cars, heavy equipment, motor homes, EV’s, etc. and I’ve never seen one, or heard of them. JS, how strong a presence could they have?
The Michelin's fast truck with its Citroën DS' roof had some accidents in Italy, eventually Italy banned it. Later Michelin did its tyre tests with the "Mille Pattes", a unique car that had 10 wheels and two Chevrolet engines: one to drive the car and the other to drive the tire to be tested.
11 wheels, there was a big one hidden in the middle of the car, which could be lifted or lowered with more or less force to simulate the weight of heavy charge. One of the 2 engines was dedicated to this 11th whell.
5:18 WRONG. This is clearly a diesel as we can see the injection pump with fuel lines and no carburetor or throttle body. The intake and air filters go directly into the cylinder. This was so easy to spot, why didn´t You catch it? This vid isn´t too good...
I came for the green longnose truck in the thumbnail. But I don't speak metric, and I'm too old to do that conversion math in my head. Can't you give the measurements in both standard and metric?
Come on... I'm not trying to be rude here but there are conversion calculators easily available online - that's what those of us unfamiliar with the Imperial system are using. Please don't come around responding that's gonna be too much a hassle...

Standard and metric? why should he give the measurements in metric twice? Standard is what the whole world use and that is metric. Oh and befor you come up with the moonlanding, NASA used metric to land on the moon.
Sadly from 2030 on all the combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in EU :-( In Germany the Green party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state owned peoples gas station per city or county. :-(

I remember this truck, after he designed some Vobis PC Cases.
Wasn’t the Colani Truck used in a Media Markt commercial?
Except Colanis is better^^
They couldn't even get a wiper that worked with the round windshield.
So 90’s design is “freed” from any copyrights by now?

I love the long hood of the WR8, and how it sticks out in the front. Kinda reminds me of a Fendt 626

Fuel saving design? Lol
New trucks are designed to save fuel yet old trucks get better mpg
