You had no business hiring someone you knew you couldn’t afford to have on payroll. To come to court and sue someone expecting money when you, as an employer, NEVER paid her, is insane 😩

The defendant should have contacted her Ministry of Labour instead of going back and stealing clothes.
This issue was contacting them is that they will only pay you federal minimum wage. It doesn't matter what you and the employer agreed on in terms of pay they will only pay you federal minimum for back pay. She wouldn't have even gotten half of the money that she was owed at that point.

@FeoshiaHDavis We have the Better Business Bureau and they could be contacted but the BBB will only repay at 7.25 an hour which is the federal minimum.

The plaintiff didn't pay the defendant for six months, and tried to short her on the amount claiming the agreed rate was less than 2/3rds of the promised amount.
The defendant resorted to self-help by stealing the clothing.

She stole them and then likely resold on eBay. I used to run corporate retail stores and employee theft is way more common than theft from the public.

That's not working, that's burglarizing the store. The Defendant stated she had not seen the tape---she's clearly stealing a bunch of clothes. Too bad the landlord erased part of it because the Plaintiff is going to have a hard time proving what was stolen. And I have a feeling she might try to inflate what was taken.

As a business owner myself I know how hard it is to get started and struggle making no money. You don’t hire an employee then get a job to afford them that’s the dumbest business move you can do. Had she spent her time doing self promotion not working a $11hr job she could have made a weeks paycheck every day.

It might have been worth being punished by losing what JuJu had already decided to give the defendant on her counterclaim if she had said, "I had a recording of the plaintiff giving me permission to take whatever I wanted from the store in lieu of monetary payment, but my landlord accidentally deleted it."
