My grandpa (the preacher) born in 1903, taught me how to hunt and fish and I still use his 1920 L.C. Smith 12 gauge SxS for squirrels. Bluegill was our favorite fish to eat and we’d clean em and grandma would fry em. He had all kinds of stories of growing up on the farm in Ohio during the depression. He ran a trapline for extra money and would add ground muskrat to the ground beef to stretch it out. Being a preacher, he had all the best farm ponds for ‘Gills and bass and I grew up 100 yards from the Olentangy River-a fantastic smallmouth river. My uncle was the editor of Georgia Wildlife magazine for 35 years and he NEVER bought meat. My cousins didn’t like hamburger because it “tasted funny.” Raised on venison. My uncle would brain tan the hides and make leggings and buckskin shirts. Many good memories hunting the swamps of Ga for wood ducks and squirrel and the north Ga mountains for whitetail. He was a woodsman par excellence. My dad wasn’t a hunter or fisherman-although he liked to eat what we brought home! Good memories. Beautiful family there. God bless you and yours. Nice! My family was never in to that kind of stuff so I learned it all from a neighbor. A crazy Vietnam vet, but he was a great guy! RIP Evert, you taught me all I knew as a kid. I miss ya man.

I remembered grew up in Cambodia in my teens I would get a long bamboo and tide a string to it with big hook a frog for bait no modern rail nothing like what we have now . its was 1979/80 when I fishing for snake head. To see you guys catching them like that man like you say once in a life time..

I was raised by my grandparents and that meant I was taught all about catch clean and cooking, everything from prawns, fish and crabs to pigs, goats and wild cows. My life wasn't easy but i wouldn't change a single thing about it

I grew up on the Bayou in Louisiana . My grandfather was a commercial fisherman. When he was off we always fished, fixed traps, and trawling.
Love it that you made kids wait to eat until prayer was said. We’ve always done the same. They will never forget that nor all the other little lessons, chores, etc. Although I love all the outdoor and cooking content, this is mostly why I watch every video of yours. TGBTG

When I was a kid living in Singapore, I remembered a old wife's tale, that snakehead fish soup were good for wounds recovery, drinking the soup was supposed to help healing with less scarring.
This is why I love this channel.
