    What a great instructional tutorial Mark! Walked outside this morning, my pool is gurgling, I flip on the lights, it’s drained to level with the strainer basket, I walk to the pump house and it’s draining from the backwash while in filter position. “Fkn pools broken again honey.” Instead of filling it in with concrete as I’ve threatened to do 18 times in the last 12 years I found you. I guess we’ll make it through season 13 now. Thanks Mark! CW4 Retired, 101st Airborne Division.

    Thanks Mark, super helpful video. You have a great way of explaining everything so it’s easy to understand. I wish I had seen this before I replaced my key assembly because it would have been so much easier and less likely to make a mistake. I used a couple of C-clamps to compress the spring with the assembly on a bench to get the handle and pin back in and it worked well but your method looks easier. Great work and glad I found your videos!

    Thanks Mark for the tutorial. Side mount on Hayward sand 240 was "crunchy". Knocked out the handle while still mounted. Unlike the other videos that show reassembly with an elephant standing on the top of the key to be able to seat the spring, your technique was simple. Cleaned everything and lubed it all up and now smooth as silk. The spider gasket is showing wear so I have some spares that I will glue in when I get some Permatex 2 sealant.
    Seated the entire unit with little effort, placing 2 bolts/nuts alongside each other and then pressing down the opposite side to fasten and snug up the rest, and then attached handle afterwards as you show.
    I was overthinking it and thought if necessary, I could get two longer bolts for opposite sides to pull the unit together but that proved unnecessary.
    Thanks again for the clear tutorial with no music.

    Thanks for the video. Just one issue- on my 714 valve, I was able to relace the valve spider gasket. Mine was leaking to waste - truely wasting water! Was able to remove the old one easily as it wasn't glued in. Got the spider gasket and top o ring for about $11 on amazon.

    • @cravenmorpus
      @cravenmorpus Год назад

      If your spider gasket is in the multiport body after you pull the key assembly off. Then you have the old style 710 valve. The 714 is the replacement. Notice how in the video the tip is perfectly round. After screws are screwed into sockets built into the multiport body, where the old style 710 was a sort of star shaped, with nuts on the bottom of the screws to seal the key assembly into place.
      You will also notice, on the 714 valve, there is a "bridge" in the spider gasket between two of the webbings, where as the old style valve is just a 5 spoke spider gasket (looks like a wheel with five openings connected to a tiny inner circle. No additional line running from one of the lines to the other. )
      I googled the gasket on Amazon by rubron? Or something like that, if you look in the pictures carefully they are clearly deceiving people. They show you two different valves and gaskets,
      Even in the final photo it has a step 1-3 picture. First two steps are a close up of where the gasket goes, in the bottom of the body of a 710, the third picture shows a 714 valve(it's round around the screw inserts)
      The gasket that is built into the diverter is completely different from the other, yes people sell that gasket bc some valves have one that looks similar to the Hayward, but those go inside the multiport of different valves. Gasket built into a diverter are almost impossible to completely take out without damaging the diverter.
      The store on Amazon is a clear deception.
      Google
      "Hayward 710T key assembly"
      Then Google the same thing. Except 714T instead of 710 and look at the difference in the two.

The sand filter unit is probably 17 or 18 years old, and I may just get a whole new multi-valve unit, as I'm suspecting I'd be pretty much replacing everything inside in any case. Love your videos, Mark! You do a fantastic job getting thru to guys like me. I bought a home with an inground pool with a vinyl liner. The pool has been winterized and covered but never in use for 4 +yrs. (and we had to waive all inspections!) It looked like a black swamp when we pulled the cover, complete with toads, polliwogs and an awful stench. We just got the water clear, and now I have the leak issue with the water coming from the waste line. I have ordered the key assembly, due in Wednesday. That gives me three days in high temps.. I have the pool turned off as it was losing LOTS of water fast. Is it possible to put the pool in recirc or something to keep pool circulating? Or will it always send water thru the leaky gasket? Anything that I should do in the mean time or ok to just wait for the part? Really don't want to lose the ground we have gained here.

    Thanks for the helpful videos! I have a brand new Hayward sand filter and am trying to use your videos to fix the leak in the backwash. I've disassembled the valve and have found that there is only one metal spacer and one plastic spacer on the spring of the handle. Should I replace the plastic one with a metal one? I should add that the plastic spacer doesn't seem to fit well at all. Thanks you for your help.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  Год назад

      The non metallic bearing is plastic, this bearing is directly under the handle and allows the handle to turn easily and also helps with lift of the diverter. One of two metal washers/spacers go on top of the spring and the other goes under the spring These washers are a set and can be made in metal or plastic, it does not matter which one you have either will work.

    Great video. My problem is the sand filter like the one you're showing won't backwash. It did when i opened the pool a few days ago, but now there isn't any pressure. I clean out the basket strainers in pump & skimmer before backwashing anytime, & shut pump off before moving it from filter to backwash. Filter shows 5 psi (new gauge). Could it be pump instead of valve? Get lots of flow through outlet though. No leaks.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  Год назад

      Put the valve on recirculate, if you have good flow in this position, you may need to backwash and rinse your filter thoroughly. If your flow is weak in the recirculate position then you may have a clogged pump. Here is a link on a video how to unclog your pump. If not, there could be a suction leak causing the pump to not hold full prime. Here is link to a video air bubbles in your pump, dealing with suction leaks. Hopefully this will help.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  11 месяцев назад +1

      If you are leaking water out of the backwash while in the filter position it would be the gasket on the diverter. If the sight glass is leaking you need to replace the washer on the sight glass. If the sight glass washer is good you want to make sure the sight glass isn’t cracked. Thanks for watching.

    Thank you for the really detailed video. Is it normal to have some slow water flow through the waste line in recirculation mode? No leaks during filteration. But there is a slight air bubbling noise coming from the filter. Not perfect in filteration. Pool is hazy and hard to get total clarity.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  9 месяцев назад

      You should not have any water flow out of the waste line while in the recirculate position. The clarity of the pool has nothing to do with the valve, but you may need to test your water or even use a clarifier. If you have done this you may need to change sand or backwash and rinse the filter thoroughly. Thanks for watching.

    • @digitopdeals1398

      @@HallmarkPoolSupplies Thank you very much for the reply. I was assuming that a slight leak in the valve may be causing low suction and that could lead to poor filteration. Higest shown in gauge is 20psi.

      You may have mustard algae it’s very fine and grows fast. When filtering or vacuuming the pool it can go through the filter back to the pool. Go to your local pool store and have your pool water tested, if you have mustard algae they can treat it. Once the algae is dead you need to vacuum to waste if not it will go back into the pool.

      Just a point of clarification, the pool is leaking from inside the pool and was before I uncapped the return jets. Although they could be leaking also. It appears that the concrete fix broke the seal around the steps at the very least. I’m just trying to get my Inground pool with Hayward S210T sand filter up and running for the year and hopefully continue to repair over next sever months. It has been quite a struggle.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  Год назад

      You should be able take the valve apart, then you can clean and lube so you can reset the diverter in filter position. If you are still leaking out of the backwash then plug the backwash line temporarily, now you won’t lose water and you can run the pool until the repair is made.

    I have an above ground pool with water leaking from middle of multiport lever, going to rebuild the gaskets and o rings on multiport lever, but my question is I know I shut the power off to the pump and filter but do i move leave lever on filter or close before proceeding to next step? Also, do i bleed the sand filter tank before unscrewing all six screws or will water come gushing out from the top when i remove the muliport?

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  8 месяцев назад

      Leave the multiport in the filter position but plug the skimmer and return. Now you can remove the screws from the multiport to repair and you won’t get wet. You do not need to bleed the filter to make this repair. Thanks for watching.

    Hi, Mark! My issue is that a small pinhole leak has appeared in the valve housing (i think you call it the hub.) Is there a way to just replace that outer piece? OR - is there a way for me to disassemble the valve and seal the hole/hairline crack? Any tips would be great! thanks for the super-helpful videos.

    • @HallmarkPoolSupplies
      @HallmarkPoolSupplies  26 дней назад

      Because the valve is under pressure you can not seal it because it will eventually leak. If the valve has a pin hole or crack in it then you will need to replace the whole valve. Because the hub or body of the valve is damaged, replacing the valve will be cheaper than buying just the body. If you need a valve l do sell the valve as well as all the parts. I’m currently battling a over pressurization on the sand filter while on the filter position.
    I changed out the sand, checked the lateral, have great pressure and flow on the recirculating position but keep blowing the top off the sand filter when on filter position.
    I thought it may be the flow valve moving and causing a blockage but after watching this I don’t believe that’s it.

      It's a S210T. I took the key assembly off and the part numbers are SP0714B and SP0714C. I'm thinking of replacing the whole assembly but do you know what model I should be buying? Thank you!@@HallmarkPoolSupplies

      You have a SP714 valve. Here is the link for the key assembly and the complete valve. Thanks for watching.

      If the o ring or gasket is bad then you will have a leak and you would want to fix this.
