      Agreed. Sadly even here in United States they capture hundreds of them between California, Arizona, Utah and send many to the slaughter houses and ship their meat to France where French people eat it. I know some get rescued and taken to ranches where they graze freely but majority of them are rescued only to be put in 10 feet by 10 feet corrals and well that is better than being killed I suppose. I wish all of them be left alone but they say they're too many and there isn't enough food and water for all and if not captured they will oventually be too many and not have enough grazing pastures.

      Yes! In the USA, horses were reintroduced by the Conquistadors in the 1500's after having gone extinct. Like Australia, they are not technically native, but they have been here for over 500 years. We owe them grace... we could not have settled here without them. They pulled our plows and our wagons and carried us around where we wanted to go. Enough already! I am not "native" to the USA either, my family's been here a couple hundred years. Let the horses have their space- they have earned it.

    These herds are a legacy of man’s choice to release them, ‘to fend for themselves’, according to the narration, after their ‘usefulness’ diminished in the wake of industrialized farming. These horses did not ask for their current fate. Now the herds are depicted as destroying entire habitats-habitats that were supposed to be the source of their ‘fending’. There is a missed opportunity here for man to self-reflect on the present through the lens of past mistakes, of which this film is noticeably and disappointedly silent.

    • @NightScaped
      @NightScaped 2 года назад +18

      Late response but they explained why the people were killing the horses. Though I do agree everything should atleast have a chance at life, I don't think just releasing animals into environments they don't cope with is a good idea. And sadly, sometimes killing an animal is the best option, even if it seems sad or pointless. I do wish that there was somewhere else they could release the horses to so that they wouldn't have to be killed, but they probably would die off anyways if relocated because they wouldn't know how to deal with any predators there since they aren't use to having any. So it might just be the best idea to either domesticate the horses once more and take them out of Australia or, like done in the video, kill them.

    • @jennifercalimer4217
      @jennifercalimer4217 Год назад +6

      I agree, I don't think its right at all to kill a horse unless its absolutely nessassary but then again I do think its more for the horses benefit also. If there are too many wild horses roaming free the population would sky rocket to where they're going into peoples back yards or causing major car accidents and pile ups from them migrating across roads and highways. The starvation rate for horses would increase drastically and remember horses are herding animals. There's only a few predators that hunt horse's, it's not like in Africa where the populations of animals are kept in check by a vast amount of predators so us as humans have to step in. It would have a devastating impact on the ecosystem if they were left to over populate.

    There seems to be a serious misunderstanding of how detrimental invasive species can be and the implication of how "natural" horses are in this area. They aren't "natural" here, and as the documentary explains, this entire ecosystem was not developed to support them. There is high biodiversity in a properly developed ecosystem where multiple species form particular niches in balancing life and death. Horses don't fit into the ecosystem in Australia. They actively diminish it. With unfettered and unparticular consumption of resources and a lack of natural predators, they function outside of the natural order and result in diminished ecosystem productivity. I love horses, they're one of my favorite animals. Still, it's important to understand that there is more to ecology than just "animals running free" and that horses are detrimental to Australian alps ecosystems.

      tout fait à un impact sur le sol, même les abattre en a un, juste que cet endroit n'a pas eu pour ainsi dire de specimen aussi gros, et 'na pas non plus les prédateurs adéquate. Il aurait fallut qu'il y ai des lous ou un grand félin pour rééquilibrer ça, au moins ça éviterait que la chaire soit perdu et éviterait aussi tout ce qui y est lié.
      Juste que là bas il ne se casse pas la tête et n'ont pas attendu que les écologistes viennent donner leur avis pour tuer les chevaux.
      voyez par vous-même ce qui se passe aux USA, c'est pour le bétail que le BLM existe.
      C'est souvent une question de fric, à côté on oublie souvent que l'écosystème est en perpétuelle mouvance, autant que la plupart des troupeaux change de lieu, et son capable de vivre en terre arides, d'autant que c'est loin d'être les pires qui puissent causer des dégâts : lapin et chat font partie du lot, tout comme l'agriculture intenssive et l'humain lui-même.
      Tandis qu'il suffirait d'accepter la présence de prédateur plus gros que nous pour réguler la population équine.
      c'est d'ailleurs principalement ça qui fait la surpopulation de ce type d'animal. en Australien il n'y a plus rien. En tout cas les incendies qu'il y a là bas et la pollution sont bien plus destructeur.

    I have been 'horse crazy' all my life and had the good fortune to raise and train horses and raise my children with them as well. The brumbies in this documentary are gorgeous and exhilarating. At the same time, I agree with those who recognize the damage they are doing to the ecosystem that has a knock-on effect on the survival of all the native species in the area and the need to either drastically cut down on their population, or removing them altogether. If only there were a way they could be transported to a place where they could live in harmony with their environment! Unfortunately, for them, that would also mean being in an environment with alpha predators and an equally harsh terrain. It is lovely to watch a sensitive, well filmed and crafted documentary that shows, not just the horses, but also those that share this fragile place with them. Thank you.

    A herd of horses is led by the dominant female the "matriarch" not the dominant male! The matriarch knows where all the goodies are, where the water is all the grass is and is on constant lookout out for danger! She's assisted by the oldest daughters who also watch for danger!
    The dominant male runs around trying to defend his herd, fighting with other outside males and the males that are growing up in the herd that want to take his place! The matriarch leads the herd and they all follow, including the dominant male! She also disciplines the young and other horses who are misbehaving!
    So get your research straight and tell the story like it is!
    Just like your last video kept calling schools of fish "swarms!" They are "Schools" NOT swarms!

      @@jackorlove4055 This opinion makes sense. But I do not agree with it. The places horses roamed that you speak where already mountains. And horses have been known to run wild in safe, still sustained grassy regions. If you're worried about over population, then let the dingos hunt the horses, and the horses thin the kangaroos, and so on. If you're worried about overpopulation, send more dingos, and more animals that eat horses to Australia. Don't choose on your own to try and kill off a species when you could easily just move them to a better place when their are as few as showed in this video. Their was no amount of horses yet that would cause a threat. And killing them is not the only way. their are many, many reasons why this isn't right and of how they could have done it differently and better. Their was no need to take such an extreme measure just because humans think they have a supreme idea of when creatures die and when they don't. God decides when fires floods, and other natural disaster happens to thin populations. And not that I'm against all hunting in general, but this specifically seemed unwise. Especially after the fire that only killed EVEN MORE of them took place. Thank you for openly sharing your opinion regardless of what others think, for this I am greatful. If you don't change your mind I'll respect that. I was just sharing my opinion. ♥️

      @@peaceserafino6015 Let the dingoes hunt the horses? Dingoes weigh less than 40 pound on average. Even a pack of them couldn't kill a fully grown horse. They might be able to kill foals, sure, but that still means getting passed a herd angry mother horses. There's no reason for dingoes to hunt horses when there's an abundance of much easier prey in Australia. Releasing other predators to hunt these horses is ecological insanity. All they'll do is decimate local wildlife and cause harm than good. I know this because that's what happens every time you release a predator into a place it doesn't belong, it wipes. Just look what happened when they released foxes into Australia, or pythons into Florida. The fact that these horses have no natural predators just demonstrates how they are not a natural part of Australia's ecological balance.
      BTW, this documentary gave perfectly valid reasons why these horses are hurting the environment, you just ignore them. Just because the environment hasn't been completely destroyed and looks healthy to your ignorant eyes doesn't mean that there isn't a problem.

      @@peaceserafino6015 You can't have dingos, the size of dogs, kill horse foals and have that be enough to decrease the population. You'd need to realize how horses defend their young and how aggressive and murderous they can be to protect their foal. To make dingos attack horses, you'd also need to kill and deplete the other species they prefer to hunt over horses too. I'm sorry, but it's just not possible to have horses in this environment without damaging it.

    At least in the states they are protected. There’s about 40 000 and because the land really can’t support more than that about 10 000 are captured and then taken either to be trained or released into pasture and live until they die naturally. The round up is amazingly humane and the colts, mares and stallions are separated in transport to protect them. They get excellent vet care and immunizations and are tracked continuously whether they get adopted or not to ensure they get proper care and stay healthy and not neglected. So I am assume there’s laws against hunting or harming or capturing them in any way.
