Thanks for the detailed tutorial! One thing you did leave out though is if you are using a thin fabric you want to put something between the front and back to prevent the ink from bleeding through.
I didn't realize screen printing could be so easy! I'm one of those people that doesn't like the feel of HTV, and the designs I want to do (from personal art) align better with the process of screen printing than vinyl. Thank you for this great tutorial!
Thanks, Alex! I was looking to try screen printing...again (haven't done since jr. high)...and was stressing my brain about finding a user friendly way to do this at home within a small space. You've completely inspired me to move forward with this method. Thanks again! Keep inspiring...you're Awesome💖
I'm so glad I watched this. I watched a few other videos that had a crazy process, with tons of chemicals and having to keep the screen in the sun for like 2 days I was like whattt lol but I realize those videos were old, before the amazing use of cricut. I have been proficient with cricut and silhouette for years now, but this is the only thing I have not tried. And I feel I'm ready. Thanks
@@DIYAlex yup it is. I cant do any crafting that deals with chemicals because I have parrots and fumes would kill them. so i am glad I found a process for waterbased ink. I ordered the stuff I need to start and it was under $50 which is also amazing. thanks again for this video
Thank you so much for your detailed video on the process. My son learned this in high school and never did anything with it. Now Im going to start a business and show him how it's done. Perhaps he will be inspired 😁
Thank you for this! I screen printed my boyfriends work shirts for his business over the weekend. They turned out great! Thank you again for always giving such detailed instructions!

Just tried this and it came out so good thanks for the help! So surprised I got it right on my first try!! Letting it dry and gonna heat press it tomorrow so excited!
I started putting the tape on the back of the screen instead of on the front. I found it to be much easier and I don't have to worry about getting the tape against the corners of the screen. Hope that helps someone 😃
Great tutorial! You answered all the questions I couldn't find answers to and I feel more confident to start my first screen printing project. Thank you

Heat guns often get way hotter than heat presses, so I'm not sure it would be a good idea to hold a heat gun at fabric for an extended period of time. It may work, but I would be nervous about weakening the fabric. You could use a household iron to heat set instead. I have also heard of people putting it in the dryer for a while, but I haven't tried that myself.
I noticed you don't use the emulsion process for screen printing. What is the difference? I LOVE the way you do things and can wait for my supplies to come in to make shirts!!!
Thanks Jeni! Yes, so this is water based ink using vinyl and my Cricut to create the stencil. The ink is totally different but still very permanent. It’s so easy!

Thanks Alex. I noticed that you didn’t put parchment paper or cardstock inside your shirt to prevent ink from possibly passing through. Is it a necessary step?
How long would you set it with an iron and I'm assuming same thing seperat8ng the iron and the material with Teflon or parchment paper? I just bought a cricut maker and a printer and I probably could swing a heat gun but not a press too at the moment. I love the idea of an iron. Thank you for mentioning it.
Hey Alex! I tried screen printing three shirts today. I noticed the second one had a spot where it didn’t get coated as much. Third one had a slighter larger spot. Was the ink drying on the screen? I thought i could use the screen back to back when doing the same color. I screen printed then put the screen directly on the next one and did it again.
I'm curious about this too. How do you do multiple shirts at a time w/o having issues with the paint potentially drying out or affecting the finished product?
Here’s a tutorial to show you how to do multiple projects! ruclips.net/video/JJN5hoWwyWE/видео.html I would try putting extra ink over that spot and see if that helps. If you think the ink is drying, then you do a small spritz of water with a spray bottle to make sure it’s not drying. The ink is water based so it won’t hurt anything as long as you don’t water it down too much!
I’m not sure what you mean by the squishy thing. The squeegee? No, the adhesive is on the backside and the squeegee only runs over the front, so there is no issue there ☺️
Hi Alex! Would you need to clean the screen each time if you are doing multiple shirts with the same design? Can you share that process? Not sure if you have another video with those details! Thank you!
You can, but once you press it on the screen it can never come off. SO you'd have to be prepared to sacrifice a piece of mesh to that design forever. You can find a video on how to clean your screen here: ruclips.net/video/X5onakGYtKk/видео.html

I don’t have any issues with that but you can use parchment paper or cardboard in between the shirt if you are worried.

It depends on how thick your ink is. Just touch it lightly when you think it’s dry. A few hours should be plenty of time.

I just bought a cricut maker and a printer and I probably could swing a heat gun but not a press too at the moment. I love the idea of an iron. Thank you for mentioning it.

A heat gun is not required, it's just an option.
Hi great video, can you screen print on any fabric
You can screen print on most fabrics, but the best options are cotton and cotton/ polyester blends. The fabric needs to withstand being heat set, so fabrics like rayon are going to scorch and not do as well as cotton.
Very good videos. I am getting ready to start playing with my screen. I have a question. In your video on washing the screens yiu have removed the vinyl before washing. Is it possible to wash it with the vinyl on the screen? Thank you
No because ink can get trapped behind the vinyl.
Great stuff. I have a sign warehouse plotter and lots of vinyl and clear and paper transfer paper. I used to do a lot of glass etching but the trend has faded somewhat so we bought a t shirt heat press and moved on. Recently got into doing tie dyes and will use this process to do our brand logo on our shirts. Perfect solution and way easier than emulsion techniques, thanks a ton.
Oh yeah definitely! Can you make a permanent screen using HTV that would be perfect for your logo!
Can you reuse the screen for multiple shirts? (Great tutorial btw, thank you!)
Yes you can! You just have to clean it once you’re done with the project.
The brand SpeedBall Ink suggests for light colored fabrics; is there an ink for dark color fabric?
Make sure it's an opaque ink and it will be fine on dark fabrics.

I have not tried screen printing onto transfer paper, but that's a great idea!
What kind of vinyl paper you use?the permanent,self-adhesive?thanks 😊
This is permanent adhesive vinyl.
Do you need a barrier inside the shirt so the ink doesn’t go thru to the back?
I usually don't use anything, but you can use parchment paper or card board if you want.
