Hey the is a rukee carpenter i started building full size kitchen with my boss and I he still a little old fashion with his laying out and drawing but I want to boost my work because he is soon to retire and i and going start doing all the work so can you plz read this and tell me what platform you use to draw out your plans to build my boss still uses pencil and paper to do it all drawing management and etc ok thanks
Is that so? Despite the fact that the emulsion is not supposed to be washed away with water into a normal sink/shower/whatever because it's heavily polluting for the environment? Professionals have appropriate filters and/or closed circuit tanks for the water used to remove the emulsion from the screen. So I'd advice you to send some other video to people asking how to get into screen printing, so they will know emulsion must not be disposed of down the drain like it's harmless. You said you've been printing for 20 years. You should know that.
My father and I did screen printing back in the 70s long before computers - and it was caveman style compared to the easier methods these days. This was fascinating to watch and to compare to how we did things on a much more primitive method. I'd forgotten about the need for lots of flat surfaces to allow drying. We used to fill every flat surface, table, countertop...throughout every room in the house back then, lol. I still recall demonstrating silk screening as my 8th-grade science fair project in school and it was a big hit with fellow students and teachers. We printed participation ribbons (1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons) for our track and field day during the science fair - so it was also a very practical and constructive science fair exhibit. I got an 'A' grade on it, hehe.
can buy screenprint transfers, dirt cheap, heat press for 7 secs, done - esp since she was using a heat gun to dry each bag for approx 1 min each. faster production
Cristina - I don't know what's more impressive, your video skills, your explaining skills or your English skills! you're a smart cookie - that's for sure! Thank you.
You are amazing! My wife and I enjoy your videos very much! The world would be a better place if more people put their heart and soul into the things that they do with their hands. We both send our love and wishes for your health and prosperity!
It's better to tape inside corners of the screen to let the frame live longer. Also you can reuse the same mesh in the same frame by removing light-sensetive emulsion and reapplying new emulsion. Mesh will be damaged over time (there will be tiny bigger holes), but it's ok if it's ok for you personally. Also plastisole ink is a great option, it doesn't dry during work and lasts longer on the fabric
Screen printing continues to be one of the most effective and efficient printing media on the market, and one of the cheapest, as well as reducing production costs from 50 copies. In addition to this, it can print a wide variety of materials, and also allows an interesting variety of special effects by varying the number of threads per inch of the screen, and the type of inks. Very good video and thank you very much for sharing it.
As someone who's been running a tshirt screenprinting shop for 20 years I very much appreciate all the work you put into making everything yourself. I use industrial size equipment like automatic presses, dryer, flash units, and a big light table that takes 6 seconds to burn the image into the screen. Makes me appreciate the equipment I use a lot more after watching this lol...Keep up the good work!
This is really wonderful. You cover all the practical points that a beginner will encounter. And you get to live in Porto!! How lucky are you. My family in Ireland are always visiting Porto. It looks so beautiful. Love your videos. You are a natural teacher.
I'm not a pro but I've been screen printing a couple of years on my own shop and also one year on a profesional automatic shop and your video it's the best to introduce people to this, such a great job!
im a learning media designer and we literally just have printing methods in school and just yesterday i made my first own screen print, its a really cool and fun method to create high quality prints on your own
I am a screen printing specialist. I have my own business in Istanbul. I congratulate you for your work, a completely professional and accurate work. I have been doing this job for exactly 20 years, if there is anything you want me to support, I will be happy to help.
Great video! I did screen printing in college as part of an illustration degree and have designed hundreds of t-shirts over the years. That’s a nice press and you did a great job.
Doing prints is one of those acts that it just very calming yet also fun. It's a bit like meditation. But that is once have it all set up. Making the screens or blocks to print with can drive you nuts.
Awesome! I was wondering how silk-screen printing actually worked. Great to see the entire process from start to finish, and I learned a lot. I liked that custom frame you made. Great job!
I worked at a printing factory yrs ago. Got to do the printing stuff, but we had another department that made our screens(within factory of course). I find this video interesting to get an idea how they may have made the screens for us to print. We printed only on clothing. For walmart, nike, nike outlet(stuff that has their logo but may have minor mistakes either on the shirt or in the screen), and other stores. We did the heat dry when the shirt got multiple hits of one color or multiple colors. We also used what everyone there said was almost the same as elmers glue(called there as roll tack) to hold the shirts in place. Its cool to see a simplified and smaller time way of doing it. The had big machines with multiple tables and the machine put the ink on the shirt, we just made sure it had ink and shirts to print on. It made a loud horrible pop if it had no shirt and it printed on that table. Especially with fresh roll tack. I made the mistake once after once screen had a minor peel on it and the screen department remade the screen, i turned the machine on wrong and instead of turning it on as a fresh start, i flipped the switch wrong to make the machine think all tables had shirts on them. They were all empty and had fresh roll tack. Yeah we were down for a while while the screen department checked em out again. Somehow, no damage. They didnt understand how i didnt destroy the design with that. Oh good times! Lol.
This was actually really informative. There was an attempt at screenprinting at my workshop that didn't end well that I wasn't involved in, but watching this I know where they went wrong and might be able to revive the project. Thank you!
It must feel good getting to make your own merch rather than outsourcing. This way you get to make an awesome video about the process. I think some prints with different colours would look great, maybe some gold to make it pop!
Please make more screen printing videos! This was fantastic, I have been wanting to try screen printing and this video was thorough and really well put together. Thanks!
Yes, you were fantastic and very clear also direct in the complete process of silk screening❤️ I would love to see how to use more colors I am a born Artist drawing before writing my name❤️ I enjoy use my hand to make create design build and heal❤️ Thank you so much for the influence you can! Have a wonderful and peaceful day❤️ may God keep us all from harms way, again thank you❤️
worked a bit in a workshop that makes prints on clothes/fabrics using screen printing and actualy, what you said about heating it up is accurate. although, heating should be done not like you did, with a heatgun. this can create some spots that have been too much "burned" and can sometimes appear glossy in an ugly manner. curating the print should have been done in heated oven with some sort of conveyer belt. this way, the "burning" process is much more uniform and ensures an equal print quality without the glossy effects
There’s a lot of good info in this video, but to be absolutely clear for anyone who might be intimidated by all the steps, equipment and processes shown, please know that you don’t actually need all this stuff to get started in screenprinting. All you need is a screen, a squeegee and ink. There are a lot of different screenprinting processes you can try that don’t use emulsion and UV lights at all, and while the “press” can make things easier, especially if you are doing a lot of prints that need registration, you don’t actually need it.
I place a piece of parchment paper over the fresh print and go over it with a clothing iron on medium heat. I tried the heat gun and it doesn't cure as well nor does the ink hold up to washing, but with the ironing method prints on cloth have held up great wash after wash.
Hello! I've watched a few of your videos and think you are amazing. Thank you for "getting to it" your videos are direct and easy to follow. Although I will say I do not have the woodworking skills or tools you have, but it is very fun to watch you make stuff... I get my hands dirty with screen printing (fine art rather than posters, t-shirts and bags). I make books as well, but have not done an edition of blanks to sell... sounds like a project? YES Anyway, thank you for taking the time to teach us out here.
That's a professional video!!! Good explanation how to do it. I am beginner from Holland with a lot of open minded ideas. thanks a lot Get Hands Dirty!!
Couple things. S-green water based adhesive from Ryonet. I use it now..... That spray adhesive gets all over everything. And is a pain to clean off of press and such. The second is a pump sprayer from lowes.... U can adjust the head from a wide spray.... Down to a jet stream. Use warm water also. I now use a pressure washer. Built a washout booth. Makes a big difference. This was a great video. U rock 4 days. If I can help in any way. Let me know. I print hot split transfers and also airbrush.
I would love to see your logo in black on a white tote! This video reminded me of my screen printing days in high school. We had to use duct tape to make hinges because we didn't have actual presses, and we weren't allowed UV emulsion so we cut our designs out of transparent sheets, taped them to the underside of the screen, and tapped off any uncovered areas. It was messy, but fun!
I probably would have done the same thing you did when applying the emulsion. I am learning all I can so when my dad and I make t-shirts and other stuff for our business
I've been looking for a video like this for ages. Thank you for making it. Very informative, helpful tips and an great overview what is needed for screen printing. Thanks again.
This is so relaxing and inspirational, I want to do my own prints on t shirts but I found it difficult to get the materials or do it with another person, I want to do the whole thing by my own like you do
Hi Cristiana, I'm definitely glad I wanted this video as I have been looking for a simple screen printing set up, but didn't want to buy total rubbish off ebay. Love how you make your videos, always helps having a nice person doing them 🙂 All the best, Lee 🇬🇧

Awesome video! Thanks for putting this together. I'm about to get my hands dirty with my first custom t-shirts :) would love to see another video about multi colour designs.
Washing out the emulsion after exposure in you home's plumbing will eventually clog the drains, sooner rather than later if you are making and using a lot of screens. For better fine detail when exposing the emulsion, use one of those clear, vaccum clothing storage bags, one side generally is clear with no branding or printing on it. Use a piece of thick black fabric and a piece of foam on the inside of the screen, vaccum the air out of the storage bag with the screen, foam & fabric inside with a shop vac and expose the screen. this gives better detail and sharper edges. There is also a method of stretching screens with a wooden frame and a routered groove that you push a cotton rope and the screen mesh into. You can get tighter stretches and more even mesh tension, but it is a skill that must be practiced a bit. I was in the screenprinting business for over 25 years starting in 1977. Made a LOT of screens, usually large ones. Have printed some shirts, mainly large graphics such as banners, sales posters, plexiglass and Lexan, adhesive vinyl graphics, plywood signs, water slide decals etc.
I’ve been printing for 20 years and this right here is the video I’m going to send when people ask me how to get into printing. Nice job!
Wooow I’m flattered, Hugh!! Thank you :)

I did screen printing some 30 years ago and it is a pleasure to see it alive and kicking again! You are good, have fun!!!
I have had a hobby screen printing press kit for close to 20 years...I have not dared to try it. This has helped, thank you! Blessings.
Multi color printing sounds like a good idea although I do love the simplicity of white ink on a black background.
Yes I would love to see multi-color printing techniques! As always your videos are so well done Thank you!
Yes, please.

screen printing is not a trivial thing, but an art that few know how to do but fascinates many.
it should be a school subject.
This is the best screen printing how-to video on RUclips. Thank you!
Do u have any 3d printing process ?
