I have so many orders right now and was beyond overwhelmed...started looking into screen printing and came across this video...in the process of trying this...I’ll come back for an update!!!
Hi Alex, thanks for the great videos on screen printing. I'm trying to get up the nerve to print my first one! Quick question - if I use permanent adhesive vinyl on my screen, can I rinse out the ink after a shirt or two and then reuse the same screen and vinyl at a later date? Thanks so much!
So glad you show from the beginning to the end how to set up layout and placement of design to make these screen print multiple shirts. You are the Best! Thank you 10/2022
Fantastic tutorial! Have been heatpressing htv onto my shirts for the past year so will definitely be experimenting with this technique. Thanks so much!
Thanks a ton for this video. I just went through the whole process and did my first ever print, and I'm super happy with it. Everything you said was explained really well and was hella easy to follow, thank you!
I have watched a few different videos on how to do screen printing with a vinyl design so I can wrap my head around the whole process before I even begin sand your video was the most informative ! Thank you for taking the time to do this!
This is the video i needed!! No one explained the whole process like you did, i was so confused about the cricut process and screen printing afterwords. Thank you so much!! Gonna get started soon 😌😌
How did you get the one spot off without it ruining the other part of your shirt? Also, where did you get your transfer tape? Thanks for the helpful video!!
Great video, thank you. Screen printing is by far the best feeling product, but I think its only really suited to runs of 10 or more to justify the setup time. HTV is actually pretty good for smaller designs or ones with more "whitespace" - its the large, flat designs that feel the worst.
I agree completely!! I talk about this in my HTV vs screen printing tutorial too. I completely agree with the larger designs as well. I don’t mind HTV but I don’t love the feeling of a giant cut of HTV on my shirt.
Hey great video! I did photo emulsion screen printing for awhile...took days to complete a project and super expensive. Finally took the plunge and got a Cricut and could not be happier! Thanks for the info!
This was very useful! Thank you for making these. For the line that was on the shirt, I see in comments you blotted with water and soap. I've tried this and cant get the mistakes to come up. Could you maybe do a video on this? Would be helpful to see your technique.
I'm getting ready to screen print a ton of boxes. For my needs that line would be totally unacceptable. That is why I watch these videos. When I see 1 mistake, I see replication numerous times.
You could use htv on the screen to make it more permanent and be able to keep the design on after washing it? If so, have you tried it? How would you heat press on the screen?
Hello. Nice job explaining it all. To help with not leaving a line from too much paint in the design can u squeegee from side to side as well; especially if the design is the same size or smaller than the squeegee. Thank you.
Hi Alex, thank you so much, I use vinyl and sublimation normally and never tried my screen printing materials. I love the circle tip and application, this will help with placing any transfer. I obsess over centering and look forward to using this technique to center my shirts.
i know im late but thank you so much i was watching videos where they was turning off lights and spraying the screen and placing some chemical on it before they even got started oh and when i woke up 30 minutes later they still havent got to the ink im serious. So when i ran across your tutorial i was very pleased thank you thank you for straight to the point video..Have a Happy New Year!
This is water based ink, so it's different from plastisol ink, which is what sounds like you were using before. I'm so glad you like this process better! Happy new year to you as well!
If you are using water base ink.you can add a bit of water every 2 or 3 shirts with your method to the ink container just a sprinkle (and use the spoon to mixed well)then keep applying it to the screen.that way keeps your ink from drying and you'll noticed every time the refreshed ink with the water will clear the ink left over in your screen as well! Also you can let the print dried on the sun before iron it.for a better outcome!
how did you wash the line off- ur video didn't show. I really enjoy ur videos. I am SO NEW to this Cricut world. Do you have any of these with multiple paint colors? Can you tag me in one, please?
Welcome! I used soap and water on a wash cloth to remove the line. Here is my tutorial on using multiple colors: ruclips.net/video/VwhgZgk-Ovc/видео.html&lc=UgzWRsLjG_gi4gDbXkF4AaABAg
Very good!!! Thank you! Your making a booboo here and there helps us! And your calmness also helps us! I just cannot tell you how thrilled I am to be a member of the 651VINYL community! My BFF HTV'er is waiting for her HTV that I ordered for her to try! SHe already loves her pin pen that I gave her! Okay then, take care. Very best to all! Big hugs and love. Blessings and Re JOuir -Darlene
I am so excited that you joined the family! The little boo boo is easy to fix ☺️ as soon as you see a mistake, you can wash the area with soap and water and a washcloth to remove it. It’s happened to me before and it comes out no problem! You just don’t want to let it dry.
Hi, would love to try this out. Some questions: 1. When your heat pressing the shirts, do you cover the shirt with like parchment paper before putting the heat press on the shirt? 2. What are the care instructions for a screen printed shirt? How long do they last?
You don't need to cover with parchment paper to press if the ink is dry. There aren't any specific care instructions that I'm aware of. The ink does better if you hang them to dry, but it's not required.
Do you need to place anything such as butcher paper or cardboard in your shirt before you put the ink on? Thank you so much for your videos. Very helpful to me.
Is there a trick to preparing your screen prior to adding the vinyl and ink. I use Speedball ink as well and wanted to make a couple of shirts. They were both ready and I had a helper so I feel like I was pretty quick. The ink seemed to dry in the mesh and the second transfer was not to good. Any advice would be appreciated.
Water based ink dries really fast, so many sure you store it in an airtight jar that it comes in, and make sure you remove the vinyl and wash the screen off when you're done printing with each project.
I like this because sometimes with the htv on soft cotton makes the shirt look weird. Where do I get the screen box and can I buy the paint at Walmart?
You can get everything on Amazon! I'm not sure if Walmart sells screen printing products or not. You can find everything I use in my Amazon store! www.amazon.com/shop/diyalex
TY so much for your very informative videos. I'm taking my business to the next step because your video's were so easy to understand. I'm starting small with this and hopefully it will grow. Thanks again. :)
Great video. Quick question. Will the ink bleed through the shirt & do you need to put something inside the shirt to stop the ink coming through? Thanks.
I’m really excited to give this a try!! Do you put anything in between the two layers of the shirt? Do I need to worry about the ink bleeding to the other side? Thanks so much! Love watching your videos!
You can use HTV on your screen, but I haven’t tried it myself. I recommend making reusable screens like I did in this tutorial: ruclips.net/video/n2I1VBMZDCs/видео.html
Love your videos, they are super helpful and easy to follow! Can you advise if you can keep the screen set up with the vinyl for future use ( rather than take the vinyl off after screening & then re-cutting new vinyl). Thanks!
Wow thank you this is extremely helpful! I have an order of 12 shirts of the same design (2 color design) so I am hoping to try screen printing for the first time. If I make a screen of the 1st color, can I reuse it 12 times right in a row? Then clean it off, load the 2nd color screen and do the same? Your videos are great- thanks!
I’m so glad it was helpful! In theory, yes, you could do 12. Since it’s your first try, you may find that the ink starts to dry up a little bit before you can finish it. You may want to have a spray bottle with water handy to lightly spritz the screen in case it feels like it’s getting dry. But otherwise yes, the process you described is correct! Just let the first layer dry a bit before doing any more.
Awesome video! One question, if you have a design on both sides do you print and heat the first side then print the other side and heat set or is it possible to heat set one side with press and tshirt form inside then set the opposite side?
That's super tricky! It varies by the shirt. I like to find the intersection between halfway between the neck and shoulder and the intersection with the armpit of the shirt.
You're welcome! I'm not aware of a material type that doesn't work with screen printing ink! I stick to cotton, polyester, and cotton/poly blends because that's what I'm used to wearing but I'm sure it works outside of those materials!
What if you want to do multiple shirts but in different colors but same design? Would you need recut the vinyl doing the whole process over again or can you just wash the screen leaving the vinyl on it, wait for it to dry and use a different color ink?
Love this tutorial! I have a question - let's say you didn't work quick enough but still need to utilize the same vinyl stencil- do I just Wash it with the vinyl on and begin again?
@DIY Alex Hi love the video, so i noticed the line that the screen left behind and you said you would just wash that part off, how were you able to wash it without ruining the rest of the shirt? Thanks a bunch.
You can use a wash cloth with water and hand or dish soap and just dab at it like any stain. Get the ink off while it's still wet and it's pretty easy!
When you've already done one shirt and you set up the second, can any ink from the first shirt end up on the second? Such as an unwanted smudge if you have to adjust your placement?
I have so many orders right now and was beyond overwhelmed...started looking into screen printing and came across this video...in the process of trying this...I’ll come back for an update!!!
Yes please do! I'd love to know how it's going for you!
Update??
update?
I love the idea of the round sticker!!!
Thank you for this video. That circle tip to align everything is so good!
You’re welcome! It’s SUPER helpful!
So cool glad you were able to get the white line off I’m new and excited to give this a try thank you so much

Yay! I'm so glad to hear that!
Great Job! And your Sweatshirt that u have on while heat setting is adorable!!
Thank you!
Thanks for the tutorial! Can you use an iron to heat set the ink?
Yes you can.
Hello. I just found you and I’m glad I did. I was wondering how you removed the extra line that was an error on the shirt
I used a wash cloth with dish soap and water.
Dot stickers are a FANTASTIC idea!!! Thank you!!!
Glad you like them! I Love them too!! - Lindsay
Oh my goodness, these shirts are so cute! Thank you for explaining the screen printing process!
You’re welcome!! ☺️
Hi very nice video. Quick question. What if you had to do another coat like when doing white ink on dark shirts? TIA
You would need to lay down registration marks to do a second coat
@@DIYAlex Thanks. I’ll give a try. Truly appreciate it.
How did you get the one spot off without it ruining the other part of your shirt? Also, where did you get your transfer tape? Thanks for the helpful video!!
I used a wet wash cloth with soap, but I worked on it right away! I didn’t allow the ink to dry.
The trick that you did to make the transfer paper less tacky was genius. 👏🏾🤓

Ooh great idea! Thanks for the tip!
Great video! I was wondering if you have issues with the ink bleeding through the fabric? Do you use cardboard inside the shirt?
I don’t have issues so I don’t put anything inside the shirt.
Can you iron instead of heat press?
Yes you sure can! Just use what you have ☺️
Hi Alex, thank you so much, I use vinyl and sublimation normally and never tried my screen printing materials. I love the circle tip and application, this will help with placing any transfer. I obsess over centering and look forward to using this technique to center my shirts.
You are so welcome! I hope it helps!
So can you use a circut easy press with screen printing I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews on this topic!
You sure can! Just set it to 320 degrees for 40 seconds and that will do it.
i know im late but thank you so much i was watching videos where they was turning off lights and spraying the screen and placing some chemical on it before they even got started oh and when i woke up 30 minutes later they still havent got to the ink im serious. This was so informative Alex, thank you! Do you mid sharing how you washed off the ink line smudge?
I just used a wash cloth with soap and water while the ink was still wet. I blotted it like it was a regular stain on the shirt and it came right up!
@@DIYAlex wow okay. Thank you Alex!
Another question. Do u know why it matters on the size screen to use? Smaller holed or larger holed screen.
All I have ever used is the 110 monofilament screen so I am honestly not sure!
How did you get rid of the stray line? Great video!
Just soap and water on a wash cloth immediately after it happened while the ink was still wet! ☺️
Would you use the same size for different size shirts? For example a Small and a Large shirt?
I do for the most part. 10 inches usually works for me for adult S- XL. After that I start making it larger. ☺️
What size should your design be if your using a 10x14 screen? Would you use 10x14 screen for sm-xl?
This is the best video I've come across for screen printing! Love the little tips along the way
Thanks so much! I hope it was helpful!
did you by any chance do a video on how to remove the lines or excess ink? I love your tutorials!
I recorded one recently and I will post it soon! I t used a wash cloth with soap and water and wiped the ink off before it was dry. Thank you!
@@DIYAlex awesome!! I can’t wait to try mine!!!
That's a great tip!! Placing the circle and placing design 3 inches down.
It’s so helpful! I think it’s hard to line up designs otherwise.
Do you place anything on the inside of the shirts before doing the ink so it doesnt go thru to the back side of the shirt?
I typically don't put anything in between my shirts, but you can use parchment paper in between if you'd like.
Iv been watching so many videos and this one was the most knowledgeable. Thanks.how do u wash off the extra paint?( the line) thank
I’m so glad! I just washed it off with a wash cloth and soapy water before the ink dried.

Ooh super cool tip! Thanks!
If screen printing on both sides of the tee do you heat press/set individually or at the same time?
I press each side just to make sure, but I let it cool in between presses.
I need to do a order for multiple shirts, how do you do the drying process? Can I hang them up or will that make the ink run?
Yes, if your ink isn’t too thick you can hang it up while drying!
Wow this video has really helped me thank you. I love that you said be generous with the paint bc you can put it back
You're welcome! Yes that's the wonderful thing about screen printing!
Does this paint work on canvas tote bags and makeup bags?
yes
Ok, what do we do if we get the ink on the shirt (like on the first shirt to the left)? Thanks!
Use a wash cloth and soap and water fo remove it when the ink is still wet.
If you are doing pajama pants would you follow the same process?
Yes
how did you wash the line off- ur video didn't show. I really enjoy ur videos. I am SO NEW to this Cricut world. Do you have any of these with multiple paint colors? Can you tag me in one, please?

Hi, sorry if you answered this already but do you put anything between the shirt?
I personally don't, but lots of folks use parchment paper in the shirt if you're concerned about bleeding.

The dot is an excellent idea. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Great tutorial! Do you put anything inside the shirts in case of bleeding through??
I don’t, but you can use parchment paper inside if you want.
Is it easy to remove the stencil? Could this be done with everyday iron on?
Yes that stencil is easy to remove. No, if to iron it on you won’t be able to remove it from the screen.
I was wondering if you know how many images you can get out of one of the cans of ink? Approximately.
I’m not sure I have an estimate! But definitely 100+
Hi, would love to try this out. Some questions:
The ink does better if you hang them to dry, but it's not required.
how do you store your used transfer tape for future use?
Stick it back to the roll.
Should I put something between the shirt and heat press?
I normally don't, but you can put parchment paper in between if you want to.
Do you need to place anything such as butcher paper or cardboard in your shirt before you put the ink on?
Thank you so much for your videos. Very helpful to me.
Yes
I don’t place anything in between my layers, but you can use parchment or butcher paper if you prefer.
How do you get rid of the mistake line paint and when while the paint is still wet or let the shirt dry
Dab with soap and water on a wash cloth while the ink is still wet.
You can keep a spray bottle handy with just water in it to help the ink stay wet. It’s water-based so it’s fine to use a little bit of water on it!
Awesome video again. How do you store the ink? It seems to be getting thick when I used it the second time, maybe a couple days later.
\
Water based ink dries really fast, so many sure you store it in an airtight jar that it comes in, and make sure you remove the vinyl and wash the screen off when you're done printing with each project.
What about using different size shirts? Shouldn’t you change the size of the font on the design or ?
If it varies really widely, but you don't need to alter it for every single size.
How do you get to that screen you’re on in the beginning - does it automatically sync to your computer once you purchase a circuit ?
No you have to download Cricut Design Space.
Do you put anything in between the shirt before screen printing?
I don’t but you can if you want!
Hi Alex ! Do you prep your screen in any way ? What are the items you need to start screen printing
You can find the basics about screen printing here: ruclips.net/video/Mrv7PU1lU04/видео.html
Do you have a silhouette diy for this?
I don't have a silhouette so I don't have any tutorials for it. Sorry!
This video has helped me out so much! I do have a question, if I do a print roughly 10 inches, how many shirts can I get out of one container of ink?
It depends on your design and the size of the jar of ink. But it's a lot! It goes far.
TY so much for your very informative videos. I'm taking my business to the next step because your video's were so easy to understand. I'm starting small with this and hopefully it will grow. Thanks again. :)

How many washes do you get out of this method before it compromises the ink/design?
I have not have my ink look any different regardless of how much I wash it.
Great video. Quick question. Will the ink bleed through the shirt & do you need to put something inside the shirt to stop the ink coming through? Thanks.
I have never had an issue, but you can put parchment paper between the layers of the shirt if you want to.
How did you clean off the line that you had left on both shirts?
I used a wash cloth with soap and water. It’s super easy if you get it before it dries.
I’m really excited to give this a try!! Do you put anything in between the two layers of the shirt? Do I need to worry about the ink bleeding to the other side? Thanks so much! Love watching your videos!
I don’t put anything there but you can put parchment paper there if you want,
This was very helpful!!
Is it possible to wash the ink off, but keep the vinyl on the back so i can reuse the same design another day?
You can use HTV on your screen, but I haven’t tried it myself. I recommend making reusable screens like I did in this tutorial: ruclips.net/video/n2I1VBMZDCs/видео.html
Love your videos, they are super helpful and easy to follow! Can you advise if you can keep the screen set up with the vinyl for future use ( rather than take the vinyl off after screening & then re-cutting new vinyl). Thanks!
You will need to apply heat transfer vinyl to be able to keep the vinyl on the screen after washing it.
How do you put htv on the screen? And if you have multiple shirts to do, is htv better?
Can you use a regular iron if you dont have a heat press?
Absolutely!
Amazing video! What kind of heat press do you have?
Thank you! I have the StarCraft Mint Heat Press from 143vinyl.com. I love it!
@@DIYAlex Thank you!

I don’t, but you can use parchment paper if you want to.
How should I line up a t shirt logo on the left side of the chest? A certain number of inches down from the shoulder?
That's super tricky! It varies by the shirt. I like to find the intersection between halfway between the neck and shoulder and the intersection with the armpit of the shirt.
Does the ink last ? Or start to fade after a while?
I haven't had any shirts fade on me yet.
Thank you for sharing!! Does it matter what fabric type you use? Ex. Cotton only, poly blend etc?
You're welcome! I'm not aware of a material type that doesn't work with screen printing ink! I stick to cotton, polyester, and cotton/poly blends because that's what I'm used to wearing but I'm sure it works outside of those materials!

Yes! The heat setting requirements are the same no matter what heat source you use :).
What if you want to do multiple shirts but in different colors but same design? Would you need recut the vinyl doing the whole process over again or can you just wash the screen leaving the vinyl on it, wait for it to dry and use a different color ink?
You would likely lose some pieces when washing the screen, so I wouldn't recommend it.
Can you use a hair dryer to help it dry if you can’t let it sit overnight?
You can try a hair dryer, but I think a heat gun would be more effective. I got my heat gun from Harbor Freight for $15 and it's super handy to have.
When washing the shirts; does the ink come off easily ? How long do the shirts last without the ink coming off ?
The ink is permanent once heat set. If you heat set it correctly it will last as long as the shirt.
DIY Alex thank you
One more question. What size is your frame?
It’s 10 or 11 inches by 14 inches ☺️
Love this tutorial! I have a question - let's say you didn't work quick enough but still need to utilize the same vinyl stencil- do I just

Do u put something in the middle of the shirt so the ink dose not go to the back of shirt

When you've already done one shirt and you set up the second, can any ink from the first shirt end up on the second? Such as an unwanted smudge if you have to adjust your placement?
It can happen for sure, but once you practice this happens less often.

How long do you let the screen dry after washing it before reusing?
As soon as it’s dry you can use it again. I’ve never timed it but it’s pretty quick!
