I feel like it's just especially tricky with those reddish orange shades! I don't think it would be nearly as startling in taupe tones. I pretty much always need to "ground" red/orange looks with smudgey black or dark purple eyeliner!

I also think it would've looked better with matte shades maybe, because I do that sometimes when I'm trying a more vampy look. But I probably would never do it with that much shimmer.

when you are applying stamp liners like that, its really important to keep the mirror eye level or slight down. try to resist the urge to bring it above
