- My 2008 Audi R8 with the Heffner twin turbo kit is flying along! Today we're mounting the flywheel, clutch, transmission, engine mounts, power steering pump, alternator, and the wiring harness. Prime Cuts Chop Shop shipped me a new A/C compressor from a 2019 Lamborghini Huracan Performante with only 236 miles on it. That should resolve my A/C compressor failure worries, now we can install the thing.

I think JR is crazy to put that turbo kit back on, considering it blew up the original stock V8. All he is doing is replacing old motor with another stock V8. The definition of insanity is performing the same task, and expecting a different result. I don't want to say I told you so, but time will tell...
Reg Abernathy I agree, I wish he wouldn’t put the turbo kit on. It’s going to be nothing but trouble.
It’s not the turbo kits that’s necessarily at fault, there’s definitely something left to fix in the tune/engine management

I agree it's insanity! Car plenty fast without the turbo plus would have sold the turbo kit to offset the cost of the new engine.
Rekan Shah You are correct. The turbo kit was not the problem as it was a common upgrade. They tuned it to 600ish horsepower. The previous owner did a second tune that put the engine to over 700 horsepower and that’s what damaged the engine. From watching the earlier videos, he just plans to go back to the 600 tune.
You need a whiteboard or a “cardboard” to make a list, so you can cross each item off. Mostly so we can track your progress.

One thing i would suggest is- if you plan to sell her down the line, stock R8 would retain her value much better.

Definitely coming along. It helps to put some anti-sieze on the splines of the AC compressor shaft and the power steering pump shaft to prevent them from sticking in the spur gear drive unit because of rust for the next person that has to work on the car.

Almost done! It’s going to be good to see the R8 come back to life after such a long sleep. I’m a bit skeptical about reinstalling the turbos but, what do I know?
Banjo bolt would require 2 crush washers I really hope he put both on other wise that could be a major PITA.

Remember to hook up the ECU’s right. One is a master the other a slave. Doing it backwards could cost you a lot of money. Awesome progress man.👍 Those things are a real pain to work on but your doing great and having fun 👍👍👍👍

Keep the tradition going. Your Grandfather left a 1965 Pickup for you to finish. Set the engine and trans in the R 8 and drag it to the barn for your grandson or grand daughter to finish years from now. You don't want to break family tradition, do you?

I found Gates belts to be too short on VWs. I’d use OEM from the dealer to get the proper length.
Your "engine stand" reminds me mightily of one of the leftovers we had after we (ah hum) "found" a small gasoline engine for the go cart we built while stationed in Vietnam.
A bit more time lapse watching the parts go on would be nice. Otherwise, great progress dude :)
The torque spec for the flywheel bolts is identical to the old EA827 engines. Also the bolts look the same. I guess Audi just sells zhem under a different part number. A set of six bolts for the EA827 ist like 2,50€.
Tavarish swapped an R8 engine in 30 mins. Why is this taking so long =)

Time for you or some other enterprising RUclipsr to invent/engineer a camera mount that can liberate both arms. Can't be a drone because of the noise, but some combination of ground-based robot and multi-joint arm should do it (plus a little software.)

Those turbo's should have went in a display case. Engine wasn't modded for the boost.

If you can swing it, install some carbon fiber blades. It will improve the look of the R8.
Am I the only one that cross checks parts prices when he discusses the cost of parts? Rockauto has that compressor new for $382.89.
If there’s one part you only buy from the dealer... it’s the one that requires the engine to be pulled to replace. New or nothing 💯

motoX yeah, he’s got a torsion spring garage door opener. Smaller version of the big commercial units you see on warehouses. They last a long time, but they’re expensive.... plus that spring will KILL you if you fool with it.

Love the channel just NOT a fan of the exotic type videos. The content you allow us to view is better when it revolves around the average Joe type of rides inmo. LEAVE TURBOS OFF! Run it stock. Run it for fun. Sell the turbos. If you want more HP's, go supercharger. Turbos will blow that motor up again.
