Every single stage has way more pits. Even Metal Man's stage had a bunch more pits added throughout the level that weren't there in the original. The part with the spring enemies had like 10 pits that weren't there before.
In the intro clearly says something like doctor Wily made the stages a little bit more dificult, please everyone focus, i am the only one noticed? (even metalman stage is a little changed too)
I have this game and it is extremely difficult and frustrating. I've beat it but only after nearly going completely insane. Why I have zero sympathy for people that say dark souls is hard.....this is late 80’s early 90’s hard. I’m sure I broke at least 3 controllers in my nes days.
The difference is the Souls games and games from that time period is the quality of design. Games from the NES/SNES days have abysmal controls and levels that have to be nearly completely memorized to beat. That's not "hard" it's tedious, flawed design to artificially increase a games play time. Lose your nostalgia and see that era of gaming for what it really is.

Yeah, starting on metal mans stage, it seemed like less was changed than other stages. As the game went on, the stages varied a lot more.
