I was just looking at my HD4890 thinking about using it solely for S-Video output...it might be a bit overkill, but the performance looks good. Also the GTS250 seems to be performing decently well too.
Omgggg i still have my original GTS 250 after my GT8600 passive card lit on fire, i still put the gpu in all my used builds to play some older games like WoW or Bad Company 2 and it runs great
I had an EVGA GTS 250 1 gig years ago and I'm very impressed how well it's holding up in today's Direct X 10 games. But the GTS 250 should be more related in performance of the original Nvidia class released in 2006. The GTX 260, 275, 280,285 etc. were more directly comparable to HD 4890 at that time. I wished I held on to my GTS 250 since it was basically the best and most refined version of the G80/G92 versions. (55nm, 1 gig of Vram, higher clocks, Less heat and power consumption) Thanks for interesting video F2F.

AMD cards are very hard to restore and bad driver optimization(you are right there) but if its compatible then its rocks :D Nvidia very easy to fix(electronic wise) and good compatibility but its got no boost. it`s just constant. Both of the cards are awesome.
Well, both of those GPUs are capable of running any DX10 game which is cool, For me, I've got a Galaxy Gefore GT 640 GC 2GB Edition and i could overclock the core speed from 950Mhz into 1375Mhz, And the memory from 891 into 1600 (oh jesus idk how) so after all i did a lil benchmark and the results showed that my GT 640 outperform both of GTS 250 n HD 4890, Also max temp was 55 degrees c and idle temp was around 25, So you can say that when the GT 640 is overclocked at it's max potential you will see a good stability :D I liked your video and how well those GPUs were performing, Thanks for sharing your experience man! #BestRUclipsr

I have an old GTS 250 from BFG. It was a factory overclocked card and I think I wasn't able to overclock it much beyond the factory overclock. It only had 512MB of VRAM, so it wasn't that stellar back in 2009.
I used a GTS-250 512MB for a few years, then sold it to a friend who used it for a couple more years, sadly I the card died not long ago. I still have it though, I asked my friend if I could have it back just to keep its corpse lol, it's the last card I owned that still had fan shroud art.
i bought 2 of these for $50 bucks at a yeard sale lol, it was a gamble because there was a chance they didn't work but they did. i don't even use them i have a gtx1070 superclocked and it's still a very good card for 2018

Recently got a rare Sapphire Vapor-X HD 4890 2GB for my 2009 Gaming PC. It's an absolute beast when combined with the Overclocked Q9550 + 8GB of DDR2 1066. :D
I was amazed that a 2Gb single GPU card even existed in early April 2009. Got it for about ~U$50 via a local Facebook sale group. The guy didn't really know what he had, Just wanted 50 for it non neg. So then I tried looking for a second 2Gb variant to try crossfire, but doubt I'll find another like it. Not even one on ebay. At high resolutions, depending on the game, this card sits right between a GTX280 and a GTX285 in other games it's right around the level of the GTX275. Far Cry 2 Very High 2x AA gets about 60-70FPS Overclocked in Bioshock at max settings it seems to match the GTX285 my friend has at 2K resolution with about 80FPS. It seems to have improved with age, really nice card. 😊
valid.x86.fr/zutux3 ended up swapping the DDR2-1066 ram out with another system and running this system at 1:1 FSB:RAM ratio. No performance losss as such. Timings and voltages aren't tweaked yet. Could probably be good at 1.26Vcore and 5-5-5-18-1 RAM
too bad that the HD4890 came so late , right before the release of the HD5870 I still have the Asus TOP HD4890 version , it ran great but right now i have problems with artifacts with it (too much oc :)
all very nice but, today march 2018, the minimum relevant GFX cards are DX11 capable ones - e.g hd5000 and above, GTX400 and above. you cannot do much or anything relevant with DX9/10 cards these days. also win10 support is a must. besides, basic DX11 cards cost around 10 us$ so they are extremely cheap any way. no practical need to go lower than that.
Problem with using Winjunk 10 instead of Windows 7 starts because it does funky shit with old hardware, having experienced this issue a lot myself with drivers behaving really odd when they are not directly supported by W10, specially 32bit drivers in a 64bit operating system usually will always see performance issues when it comes to chipset or GPU related stuff. This is why you can find a lot of older comparisons between XP, Vista and W7 is that gaming on Vista and W7 is a LOT more stable there is in general less fluctuation, why is it so? Because of 32bit drivers vs 64bit drivers in a 64bit OS. Also AMD's last release drivers for terascale were beta drivers, really sad. W10 is really poor choice for older hardware in general, there lots of articles going into more details about the stability issues and whatnot that occurs because drivers are simply too old and having to run on the really awful backwards compatibility mode in W10.

F2F Tech np m8, that GT 1030 performs as a standard gtx 750 edition, but I'm sure it will beat any dx10 GPU. Even gtx 480 I guess which is dx11.

More people need to use Call of Pripyat in their vids. It's still beautiful in DX11 mode and still fairly demanding.
