morning coffee plus F2F tech to brighten my shitty day
Finally!
you good sir are one of the most underrated tech youtubers i've seen , keep up the good work and i'm sure your channel will spike in popularity soon
Really appreciate it. Though I don’t release videos as much as I need too...
The 780 will always have a place in my heart it was the first card i ever got for my first gaming pc at 15 years old, no matter how old it gets it will always be my favorite card!
love the review! 780 still looking solid with abit of oc and you good to go!
You deserve way more subs man, you make amazing content.
How tf aren't you more popular. Quality content, and good accurate information. Beautiful voice is just the cherry on top.
I really appreciate it. I don’t produce enough content, so growth is rather slow. 😰
Because they didn't benchmark original Doom.
Just found your channel. Definitely muuuch better presentations for results than other channels. Awesome work.
I demand to see you test the 1993 version of Doom in your next video! How dare you get my hopes up like that?
/s
I love watching comparison videos period! You were my first Amazon affiliate link used yesterday.
And you left us hanging with the original Doom test...
Will be interesting to see Gtx 780 3gb vs gtx 780 strix 6gb version test in 2018
Better frame times I would imagine
I have gtx 780 in sli watercooled
After investing in Kepler 2012-2013 GTX 680,760, 660 (MSI Twin Frozr versions) i was impressed with the performance vs power consumption. Nvidia's Kepler hasn't age as well as I would like. GTX 680 is basically a 1050ti these days. Looks like Vram limitations also has a negative effect on higher detail settings and performance. The GTX 780 wasn't a compute card so that will degrade gaming going forward. I'm kinda glad I waited for Maxwell GTX 970 and Pascal GTX 1080, 1060, 1050ti, GT 1030 (ddr5). Still got my GTX 680 (2 gig) witch works great in AMD A10 7860k (OC'ed) mainstream gaming rig. Thanks for the review of this still descent performing graphics card F2F Tech.
Great vid dude! See if you can pick up a Kill-A-watt meter, would love to see what the cards do when overclocked, watt wise. Btw, you are doing a great job man!
Thanks. The numbers shown in the video are measured at the wall with a killawatt meter. I’ve had this card at 1530ishMHz with 1.55v (measured with software, so probably lower) pulling over 650w at the wall for the whole system running Unigine Valley.
Hey I’ve been watching your videos and have decided to sub. Will you ever test a 560 ti with i5 2400?
Thanks. Unfortunately I don’t have a 2400.
Awesome video! You have my sub sir!
P.S.
Nice temps on kraken 10 mod
My 980ti on around 1500MHz core overclock is overpowering thermaltake waterperformer 3.0 120mm rod at 75C° 100% fanspeed!
You have a golden sample right there!
Thank you sir. 75c does seem a little high. Have you checked to make sure you’ve got proper contact with the die? Also, how much voltage are you throwing at her?
A 1502MHz core clock on a GTX 780 is pretty amazing. This is making me want to flash a custom BIOS on my EVGA GTX 780 SC just to see how high it'll go.... The fastest I've been able to get my 780 to run stable was 1202MHz. I was able to run it at 1248MHz in GTA V at about 1.28 volts, but it wasn't stable under full load. Like you though, I couldn't OC my memory much at all. Great video and beast card.
That clock seems normal for a Kepler GPU. On my GTX 770 4G I managed to get up to 1320 MHz. But that OC was unstable in some games, others not ( crashes in gw2, works in The Witcher 3 for example). But well, my GTX 770 died in January, RIP. Don't remember at what voltage though, not that high, around 1,224 I think. GTX 770 was kind of locked anyways due to the fact that it already was a overclocked GTX 680.
Heh, I did a Video on this same exact GPU Late Last Year, and Came to the Same Conclusion.
Only difference is that I did not have nearly as many games to benchmark as you do.
Nevertheless, the GTX 780 is a Great sell, IF you can get it around $200 or less.
Fantastic work on this Vid!
I'm still rocking my 780 Lightning!
Love your content love older hardware reviews amazing what can still game on at decent settings any chance of an overview of the 9600 gt or the 9800 gt not to many reviews of these cards at least in terms of modern ish gaming.
I have them planned at some point. Yet again, I’m redoing my benchmark suite. In W7 this time, as the ATI cards really don’t play well in W10. I’ll do 4 old games and 4 new-ish games.
Very, very frightening indeed
This is where I first came into pc gaming, and learning hardware.
Still have my R9 290 to this day.
Holy Jesus how good the card look!
What`s that a month of gameplay? :D Awesome work.
Here in UK the 780ti from MSI its 2000£ so make sure you don`t sell it ok? :D
That is some serious heat dissipation gear. Looks even beefier than what my old GTX 580 has.
GK110 - epic legend chip!
At one time, right at their end of life, Overclockers.uk had these cards for a superb price (brand new). I was considering this over the MSI GTX970 which I did finally buy, because this card was almost as fast and a full £100 ($140) less expensive. I wish I'd bought it and saved the money for something else... like a new mouse and keyboard.
The models that came down the road had better memory as well. Hynix or Samsung. There were also LE models if I remember, but I don’t think they were binned as well.
Wait so did you buy the 970 of the 780 lightning?
The HD 7970 would be interesting too compare against it along with perhaps overclocking comparison between the two performance wise too see which one has more too gain compared with the stock speeds.
along with perhaps a third party r9 290 non x version.
The lightning's look absolutely cool. I just picked up a evga 780ti classified for $30 working off of Fbook classifieds if you could believe that. Only thing holding me back from using it is the massive power needed.
I have one of them this Lightning beauty ^^ Its really a beast, but i use the gtx 1070TI 8g :)
Nice Video :)
What a cool card.
Ignore my first email, I decided to just donate the fx5800.
MMmhhh ..........Are you Kevin Spacey ? You sound just like him .
Thank you for uploading this great video.
The best honest benchmarker on RUclips F2F you legend. This card is still fantastic and has been spared from the cryptoshit inflation so its a good choice if you got the the power to run it. Truly a remarkable piece of engineering the design the quality and even the firmware is so premium i can feel my cars rims enlarging to 24"
Still rock a Zotac 780 AMP! I'm playing at 1440p and the first game that really made me drop to low settings (after OC) was Monster Hunter World. Some OC later, rock solid 30 FPS (it's not the 60FPS Master Race trademark, but, hey, my PC is over 5 years old!).
I’d be interested in seeing the asic quality percentage in the videos for each card you test. Just for the heck of it. I can never resist checking on each card I get in. As always, excellent video man. Criminally under viewed and underrated
Will do 👍 thanks
I did a quick overclocked of my gtx 780:
+300 on the core from about 900 to 1320mhz
+500mhz memory clock
That is like gtx 980 performance and way better than a gtx 1050ti today.
It would be fun to do some serious overclocking with another bios and some watercooling to see how far it could go.
I have been thinking about getting a new gfx card but with today's prices you have spend a lot of money to get something that's much better :(
Good! It's a GTX 780 that bosses can't make fun of!
I have a GTX 780 Classified from EVGA. I recall that the best I could OC the GPU to was 1293Mhz, using stock VRAM settings. That was while using the LN2 bios. My stable OC was 1267Mhz with the VRAM at 1750Mhz (7 Ghz effective). The reviews I'd seen for this card said that even with the LN2 bios, Nvidia had pretty much locked the voltage down to +37mv and adding any more didn't do anything without using a custom bios.
The Ln2 Bios allows for higher power limit, but still only +100mv. RBBY tool with a special version of AB is the only way i know to get beyond 1.2v
115% power vs. 110% for the stock bios. EVGA was telling reviewers that NVidia had them locked at +37mv, or 1.2 volts.
I am currently using the Asus Poseidon GTX 780. Its been a great card.
Paul George i have msi twin frozr 780ti
Is the "very very frightening" as in "thunderbolts and lightning very very frightening"?
Yes sir!
Another great video man. Always enjoy seeing these. Would love to see a GTX 780 vs 7970 showdown, but if you use that lightning maybe you can use a 7970 Toxic or similar to keep things fair.
Thanks bud. Temps and power consumption would be the difference. Performance should be the same. Right?
F2F Tech Would be interesting to see with recent drivers on each. Unfortunately the 7970 Toxic is pretty uncommon or rare even.
F2F Tech It would actually make more sense to do the GTX 780 vs the R9 290, as they were each other's main competition.
I remember when the gtx 670 was faster or on par with the 7970... What times. Now amd wine tastes a lot better ;)
I have the evga SC 780 6 gig card and would love to see a 3 way comparison between reg 780 vs 780 6gig vs 290 or 390, I Know the 780 performs badly because of the lack of driver support from nvidia its just mainly because im curious
I’m trying to find a R9 290. Would love to do a comparison between the two.
Great video sick looking card wouldnt trade my gtx 970 strix @ 1500mhz for it though
What dictates frametimes? I've noticed with my older 650ti boost the fps will hold 50fps, but the frametimes make it seem like 30fps. Overclocked or not.
GJ, if u can pls do tests in video editing in vegas or piemier, will be Great to see this card with gtx 980 or 1060/70 😀
That’s a thought. I’ll see what I can do.
did you ever do the follow-up to this like you said at the end of the video? if so, i would like a link
My MSI N780 Lightning just died ;( Guess it's not as overengineered as it first seemed ;( Should go for Evga from now on
gtx 780 vs gtx 970
yessss need more of this!
Smile cat If you look at Userbenchmark, the GTX 780 still trades blows with the GTX 970, but the 970 typically edges the 780 out in games that need more Vram.
@@ZazzilasArden Now with better drivers, the 970 outperforms the 780 and in some case the 780 Ti
MOAR 7970!!!
I have that cool ass gpu. lightning cards rock
MAMA MIAA!!, MAMA MIA FIGARO.
magnificoooo
beasts cards Always good
Did you use a coolface in 2018?
Good review. What's the game at 3:30?
Thanks. It’s The Hunt Showdown
I'm probably about the most oddball guy out there but my gaming rig has a MARS 760 in it, and I've been waiting to find a 780 lightning for a price I can justify... while I actually have a 1080 literally lying gathering dust :P, but stockish (it's a G1 gaming) cards simply don't belong in my gaming rig no matter how fast they may actually be. I do have to say the pulsing red MARS logo is pure magic. I'm sure it makes me much better at DOOM, it's like you get your own Argent energy boost every time you glance at it
I’ll trade this Lightning for your 1080 😉
Drives me nuts how awful the assassin's Creed origins port is compared to far cry 5.
Whats the sweetspot of your 5820k? My is at 4,2GHz @ 1.17V
Wow...yeah my chip sucks. At 4.2 I’m at 1.275
I have this card, I find it to be very satisfying visually and build quality wise, but I should complain that it requires manually launching a "msi fan control" app for the middle fan to work properly, and that is annoying, also the app is broken under win10, and my other complaint is about kepler in general, Shadowplay refusing to record 1440p 60fps videos, so I like the card but I will be upgrading to Evga 980Ti Kingpin or Gigabyte Titan X Xtreme
Interesting. I can do 1440/60 records with it, but I don’t blame you. The 980 Ti with an OC is pretty beast. I had a 1500Mhz one not too long ago.
How do you do 1440/70 video capture with it? I can do 1080p 60fps, but if I increase to 1440p it falls down to 30fps and won't let me set 60. I researched it online and found out it's a limitation of Shadowplay on Kepler cards, and that I need Maxwell or Pascal if I want 1440p 60fps video capture
Sorry, I meant 1440/60. Let me double check to make sure I’m not smoking crack.
+F2F Tech, you are not smocking crack, you are smocking Thermal Paste
Where is the 2019 Test...? ... or in 3 days.. 2020 test? ... gotta keep em' coming...
I’m benching when I can...just need more free time.
I just bought gtx 780 direct cuII oc edition in almost $180 is it good in my country gtx 1050ti $255. FyI
Yeah that’s a good deal then 👍
Faizan Khan which country ??
Pravèèn 8⃣9⃣ pakistan
Faizan Khan I got gtx780 for 5000 indian rupees..that's less than 100$
Pravèèn 8⃣9⃣ in pakistan due to high doller price+govt taxes thts the difference also i bought in cheap rate as compare to market lol
Good channel 👍
Would have loved to see it up against an RX 570 4GB. You can pick those up used for less than $100.
For how much can I sell this card?? As I have heard is quite difficult to find on the market.....thanks.
In the US? Probably around $120
This or the Asus Rog flagships. Best pcbs and coolers u can get
Hey F2F. I had emailed you about possibly collaborating and you said you would reply sometime that week and this was a month ago. Are you still interested?
Hey bud, I just sent you an email. Sorry for the wait.
Can i say that this Card is similar in performance to gtx 1060 3gb?
I would say very close. Probably in between the 3GB and 6GB 1060
Thqt 500W cooler should be the reference on vega 64.
Recently picked one of these up for 95$
You sure it wasn't 780 dollars msrp?
I’ve seen both prices. I wasn’t completely sure, so I stuck with 750
hey, would you like to test an HD 7970 SuperOverClock from Gigabyte?
Why you got one?
F2F Tech yup, and i think about selling it. i can send you some photos and benchmarks
one hella beast
Would love to see this card vs 7970 vs r9 290 vs gtx 1060 3gb
I would too. Just need the last two cards...😰
I thought the GTx 780 was Maxwell not Kepler??
Kepler good sir.
And in 2020 Kepler is dead
Why not use oc in all games?
Hard to replicate exact runs for the OC results in some of the MP games. Certainly possible, just didn’t make the time for it.
There is no point testing this card without mod bios or voltage unlock
GTX 780 Lightning vs GTX Titan?
Don’t have one unfortunately
i have one of this... but i need to upgrade my cpu because bottleneck
My GTX 1060 3GB barely scores higher when OC. Quite a beast to this date that GTX 780.
Koeras my 1060 6gb fe destroys those scores
Talking only about Superposition Benchmark to be honest. I score 9025 with Medium settings at 1080 . GTX 1060 6GB is around 5% faster and should by consequence hit around 9470 with those same settings ?
780 keeps up in benchmark but in game fps it gets put down, per example i run assassin's creed maxed 1080p+ 110% res scale out 60-70 fps
I haven't done any proper database to compare that. Like I said, Superposition Benchmark. Overclocked GTX 1060 3GB manages 9340 in that benchmark with medium preset at 1080p. Add 5% to that and you got GTX 1060 6GB performance. You have a strange feel for scaling if you call that improvement "destroying".
In this one benchmark this Pascal GPU performs 8,4% better than his GTX 780. Your card should by consequence probably perform around 14% better. This should be a similar trend across all games.
Yet we may mention what he is talking about at the end of the video, Kepler architecture didn't age as well as some others...so by consequence ingame difference may be bigger...further testing and comparing needed.
Test it with cpu at 5.0 ghz if it is Intel , you are bottlenecking the Gpu with that low cpu clock ....
If there is a bottleneck, it’s slight.
first! Nice video!
sill go my lightning
outro song ?
Still a relative GPU!
6:55 Never heard of Aherrr filtering...lol
Its pretty new...
There was this one filter I used to know..it was an iso tropic kind of filter. Needless to say, it enjoys trips to the beach.
Ha Ha!
7970 Pls. I have R9 280X
i want ittttt
You should compare this at 1ghz and 1.5ghz!
I would, but I no longer have the nzxt bracket
Still a cool gpu tbh, just nothing you want to buy today
Yeah, a GTX 1060 is a much better buy.
16X AF !
That's a lot of AFs
my gtx 970 gets about 13000, damnn
Great review! And here is GTX 780 VS. GTX 970: ruclips.net/video/RWKAFKrLbC0/видео.html
Fast-forward to 2k20 and Kepler is completely rubbish, all Kepler cards bested by the mighty 7970GHZ, easily the best card till 980TI.
Depends on the game. A lot of UE4 games still run better on the 780, but the vast majority do not. Since there’s not much in the way of optimization for shader compiler anymore, Kepler cards don’t saturate their SMs...meaning you’re not getting the full FP32 TFLOPs from each card. Their warp schedulers can dual issue, but without ILP each SM probably uses 128 CUDA cores and not the full 192.
@@F2FTech The biggest humiliation for Kepler is Doom Eternal
😒 meh, 780 sounds like a hungry card
This variant loves PoWaH!!!
F2F Tech 🤓 yeah i figured that out with those 3 fans, jiji 😊
you-bee-soft
Yup, good call
5 years after wonna buy gtx 1180🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑
